(POST GAME) (H of F) Vermont, Sat. Nov. 16, 4p, FS-2, 570 WMCA

Knowing that Lamb was the guy, a little disappointed we couldn’t deny him the ball on their last shot. Sure we tried but that was the guy we needed to deny.

Games like this, even if it ends up a loss, builds character and toughness. Our guys showed they have plenty of both.

I also think you have to help Heron a bit on that, too. The program listed Lamb as being only an inch bigger then Heron, but it certainly didn't look like that. Shot over him too easily.

I know it's a risk to send someone, but 1-on-1, Heron was toast, IMO.

Agreed. I thought maybe they drop the guy off the guy imbounding the ball to double Lamb. I guess nothing you could do there. Kid was tough. Made the money shot. Not our day.

Wow the turnover stat is glaring. We turned it over too much in the UNH game as well. Not devastated as we played hard and see a lot of room for improvement,

Rutherford and Spears both had a very tough day today. Williams is coming back from an injury so I give him the benefit of the doubt but just not sure why Caraher did not get more burn. Was a little strange to me.

On a positive note we are rebounding much better and did not get killed by 3 pointers. CMA was actually coaching during the timeouts and the team was hustling. We may have lost but this team is a lot easier to watch than last year's team. Hopefully they will be doing a lot more free throw shooting in practice!

Was thinking the same thing on Caraher. Now that Dunn is playing, he will move from scoring option 3 to option 4. Since out 1 and 2 had off games, Caraher could have stepped up. Maybe an injury because CMA doesn't look like the type to bury a guy on the bench.

Would have loved to have won this game, but as the old saying goes...
Point guard play needs to improve as Dink pointed out and Heron & LJ need to be 75-80% foul shooters, no excuse for less.
But I am very encouraged by lots of stuff including:
1. Roberts & Earlington are such big time step ups from last year and will be valuable parts of our rotation all year, not just in non-conference play;
2. Dunn was impressive given his first game in so long, not afraid to take the big shot & a tiger on defense;
3. Campagnie continues to impress as poised frosh and way better than anyone expected at this point.

We will be a very tough out for any BE team when Figgy & Mustapha play well and very competitive most nights. The future is bright!

I also thought this was a good game for Caraher to get a few more shots. He looked decent when he was out there. I think MA wanted to get Williams going. One mistake was putting Sears on Lamb when Roberts picked up his third foul. Lamb scored six points on two possesions. Sears is a banger if anything, he can't guard a scorer as talented as Lamb. He should have went to Champagnie.

Tough game, but always love the company of my guy Tony & the great John Miciotta aka JPM114

The bottom line throughout the entire season: If Heron has a great game, we win...when he disappears, we lose. He's our best guy.

So if one considers Dunn our 3rd option, 11 for 36 from those three isn’t going to get it done. Having said that, you can spin this game a lot of ways. Poor shooting from those three, 12 missed free throws, yet we hung tough and had a chance against a good, experienced team that knows how to win is how I view it. One negative I have and I think Dinkins touches on it with his PG comments, but 6 assists with 16 turnovers is not a good line to say the least. I think there is a lot of room for improvement there and I think it will happen down the road. There is a learning curve with new coaches, new players and I expect Dinkins is right that the team we see now will be vastly better in February / March.
So my spin, SUPER disappointed in the outcome, I am not a moral victory guy at all, but saw more evidence to be optimistic we are going to wind up with a much better team than I could have hoped for. We shall see but on to Columbia.

Did not see or hear game and only now joined in on the Vermont
posts.
The bright star that stands out for me - the players apparently hustled,
the coaches coached AND most on this board are neither bitching
or moaning but rather accepting of the direction we are headed.
A positive sign!
And a good night to all

I said the same in the game thread. We needed to deny him the ball. I can't remember, but I'll go back and watch the ending to see if we face-guarded Lamb. I would've face-guarded him to deny him the ball, and made Vermont give it up to someone else.

I agree with you re: Caraher. I would like to see him receive a few more minutes. He has somewhat of a cerebral approach when he's out on the floor.

On radio post game, TJ was candid, noting Lamb should not have received ball on killer bucket cleanly v one defender. CMA in presser also noted intent to double Lamb, but no execution.
