By the way, Dante Harris was a 2-star recruit.
What is your point? By osmosis CMA is hitting it out of the ballpark with recruiting?
So from here on out I’m looking for improvement by the coach as well as the players. Champ looked exhausted down the stretch-played 38 of 45 minutes. Williams played 40 minutes. Poor player management in addition to game generalship. Time to look in the mirror and fix this, or the year is lost.
Stat that stood out to me was Cole got 32 minutes. Why?

JUCO Transition Watch:

Obviously Moore was very good tonight and I like his energy and confidence.

Regarding Cole, it looks like he is adjusting to this level. There are times when he should pull the trigger from three, but it appears he thinks he doesn't have enough room. He will soon learn that, at this level, that's all the room you get. I suspect he has a good mid-range game as well. Very talented kid who will develop.

Pinzon better be a monster right away, because at this rate I can see some of our more talented kids transferring. Who would want to be part of a system that doesn't work?
And that is the inherent problem with this program. We put so much pressure on the newcomers to be great, that when they stumble even a bit early, we start complaining, and it tightens the player, and the team, up.

On the flip side, if Pinzon is a good as you want him to be, he's probably not here very long either, and what good is that (unless we make a final four)?
With all the problems with this program, you think the “inherent problem” is that posters on Redmen.com are putting too much pressure on the newcomers?

No, just further verification that the rankings are an erratic indicator.
Could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that this is exactly what CMA did at Ark on their forums. That they were always finding ways to lose and choke in crunch time. This program is officially used to losing. Lavin started turning us around and we are the new DePaul. Life comes at you FAST.
All you need to know about Anderson is that he was fired from his last job, and not because he cheated, or did something dirty, but because his team's weren't good enough. How many coaches get another shot in the big time, after something like that? And we've done it twice, now. At least, in Lavin's case, it was because the fans and administrators at UCLA have unreasonable expectations for that program (his successor took them to 3 Final Fours, and they still ran him out of town), so that one was understandable.

What's worse though, is that Anderson still remains the best of all the reasonable choices that the program had two off-seasons ago (I wanted Cluess, but that wouldn't have worked, and I knew Pitino was not coming here).

There is no perfect fit for this program, like Jay Wright is at Nova, or Ed Cooley is at Providence, and until there is, our ceiling as a program is only so high.

Im assuming becasue Coach mike brought this kid in and wants to get him acclimated to big east play. Because if coach mike was interested in winning, cole would have been sitting on the bench and earlington would have gotten 32 minutes.

Man, I just don’t see it. I said that even when he rescued us in the St. Peter’s game. The game looks way too fast for him. I do think he’ll have a handful of good scoring games the rest of the way but I don’t think he’ll ever be an efficient player. I cringe when the ball is in his hands.

Would have liked to see a little of Josh Roberts. Read that CMA said it was a coach’s decision for him not to play. I understand that Moore played a terrific game, but I think Roberts is probably our best post defender.

I know Roberts’ Aunt recently posted on Twitter that he is not in CMA’s dog house but I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t transfer mod-season. Perhaps the shoulder injury is still bothering him and he is not redshirting bc this year will not count against his eligibility. Who knows.

Cole has a greater upside and is going to get more minutes than Earlington. It's a wise investment.

Dunn is still no where near 100% recovered. He played 19 mins with 4pts.

Julian struggled with only 12pts. But he was working his butt off with 12reb.and 2 assists.

I agree Earlington's disappearance in the 2nd half is puzzling. He played really well in the 1st half. Did he get an injury that hasn't been disclosed?

I'm disappointed with the loss. It is encouraging that the guys are playing hard and getting rebounds. Williams and Posh had 6 assists each. The Johnnie's are playing hard for their coach. Inexperience is the biggest problem.

I think the team can still turn it around. Dunn has to get well and start playing like last season. Posh is playing better. He's still adjusting to the BE.

The season is just getting started.

I think Cole's offense will come around and get his shot off.

I am concerned about his speed, bad hands, weak passing and lack of defense against bigger guys.

Well, it's one of them. Started with Felipe Lopez, and continues to the present day. The freshman who come here can't just "be freshman", so they have to be saviors from Day 1. I understand why the fans feel this way (I share it a lot), but it doesn't help.

I supported Lavin's decision not to sellout for Whitehead, but time has proven that to be a mistake. Unfortunately, Ponds (much as I loved him as a player), did not provide the pipeline to recruits that Whitehead did for them, and Seton Hall has gotten to the point where they can limit someone like Mamu's flaws for a year or two, by minimizing his playing time, whereas our freshman have all their weaknesses exposed early, and fans and media vent their frustration over it. That was makes the rich programs richer, and the poor programs poorer.

Worse, where's the tide turning on this? Even if we get a stud, and he lives up to his billing, he's here two years tops, and the cycle starts again.

Nobody's in the wrong, but it's still a problem.

You may be right. But it cost us the game tonight.

We’ll agree to disagree on that one. In any event, we don’t have the luxury of giving up conference wins to invest in the development of a player who is clearly not ready to perform. We should play our best players the majority of minutes. Earlington was playing very well and deserved most of Cole’s minutes in the second half.

So you’re complaining we hired the best candidate available to us? Just kidding, I know that’s not your point.
The expectations on this board seem to be largely based on 1985 and 1999 and those were a long time ago. We have made bad hire after bad hire and not been a good program for a long time and long time failure inevitably leads to limited options. We were lucky to get CMA and hopefully he can turn this around.

I tend to agree that CMA was the best hire given the circumstances. Not sure whether that’s a testament to CMA’s coaching prowess or how far we’ve fallen as a program. What’s clear to me is that this is one of the least attractive and most difficult coaching jobs in the country. Will take a very special coach to make us relevant again.

Odd, not for him to sniff even 1-2 minutes early on.

Good for him. Now, we'll see what he learns from it (and that won't necessarily be answered over the next 1 or 2 games - positive or negative).
