Champ looked exhausted down the stretch-played 38 of 45 minutes. Williams played 40 minutes. Poor player management in addition to game generalship. Time to look in the mirror and fix this, or the year is lost.
Pinzon better be a monster right away, because at this rate I can see some of our more talented kids transferring. Who would want to be part of a system that doesn't work?
And that is the inherent problem with this program. We put so much pressure on the newcomers to be great, that when they stumble even a bit early, we start complaining, and it tightens the player, and the team, up.
On the flip side, if Pinzon is a good as you want him to be, he's probably not here very long either, and what good is that (unless we make a final four)?
With all the problems with this program, you think the “inherent problem” is that posters on Redmen.com are putting too much pressure on the newcomers?
Well, it's one of them. Started with Felipe Lopez, and continues to the present day. The freshman who come here can't just "be freshman", so they have to be saviors from Day 1. I understand why the fans feel this way (I share it a lot), but it doesn't help.
I supported Lavin's decision not to sellout for Whitehead, but time has proven that to be a mistake. Unfortunately, Ponds (much as I loved him as a player), did not provide the pipeline to recruits that Whitehead did for them, and Seton Hall has gotten to the point where they can limit someone like Mamu's flaws for a year or two, by minimizing his playing time, whereas our freshman have all their weaknesses exposed early, and fans and media vent their frustration over it. That was makes the rich programs richer, and the poor programs poorer.
Worse, where's the tide turning on this? Even if we get a stud, and he lives up to his billing, he's here two years tops, and the cycle starts again.
Nobody's in the wrong, but it's still a problem.
