I love how you’re all blaming the coach.

It’s the coach’s fault they can’t hold a 7-point lead with 2 and change left? It’s the coach’s fault they miss free throws? They’re all the same age on the court, save me the “it’s the coach’s fault.”

Please
Not everything is on him but can we please stop with the .500 or better BS. Means nothing
Don’t worry about it bc that steak is about to end this year.
It’s not up for debate. Coaching is the problem. When you have a pitcher who only throws 99 mph fastballs, eventually they’re going to get shelled.

This system is very effective in spurts but not throughout the course of a game. And the coach is unwilling to come off it.

When the games come to a grind in the waning minutes we throw the ball away or get absolutely terrible looks in the half court.

Also our D flat out sucks. This is all coaching and basketball IQ of your players. Very deficient in both areas
Cragg needs to give serious consideration to having one of the assistants get overturned after the year, in favor of someone who knows halfcourt offense.

The problem is, that the one who is most expendable, IMO, is Cleveland, and if you do that, Anderson leaves too, and you're back to square one.

Damned if you do, Damend if you don't, IMO.

Again some questionable substitutions in the second half. With Cole playing nervous and clueless it would have been wise to put a banger like Marcellus in the game.
In this loss it was the horrible offensive game by JC and VC that cost us the game. Combined they shot 22 percent on 4-18 shooting. Cole completely lost his mojo and his handle and his defense need major improvements. Champagnie looked listless and needs some of his brother's aggressiveness. He played at his true height of 6'6 tonight and, like Cole, has a poor handle. They are a stark contrast to the 6'11 Mamu who handled the ball like a guard the other night.
Disappointed that coach Anderson could not get his guards to control the offense better.
This is yet another game that looked like a scrimmage with minimal direction from the bench.[/quote

yup. But he has Earlington burying shots in the 1st half and doesnt play him in the 2nd half and OT. Pathetic.
I have more to say about benching Earlingron who was effective in the first half except for the second half for all but the last possession of the game and OT after fouling a 3 point shooter (four point play), the fact we appeared surprised that GTown decided to press when down by 7 late in the game but too pissed right now so I am just going go with

THAT SUCKED.

How is it that we look clueless when inbounding vs. a press.

Last comment, just look at the scoreboard & easy to identify terrible defense as core issue plaguing thus team. A less than vintage GT with short bench puts up 97 points and shoots 57%, ouch!
After the 1st half Earlington had, to play him 3 minutes total in the 2nd half and overtime is a fireable offense. Just absolutely clueless by coach anderson. It was criminal and it cost us the game.
Agree. Earlington, who looked good, played 13 minutes scoring 10 points while Cole shot 1 for 7 in 32 minutes. Poor coaching decision as far as I am concerned.

Just read all the posts. There’s no perspective. We’ve basically sucked for 20 years. But this is the second year of a new regime. It’s still a work in progress. Last year early it was very similar abs we got better with less talent. There are many moving parts. A few games ago Moore “sucked” and shouldn’t play. Today he has a great game against a big team. On the other hand, Julian struggled. As did Cole.

I just think it’s too early to say “ the team sucks”. And the “ coach sucks”. I want to win too. But the school let the program fall very far. We’re on an upswing bit it till take tine.

So, yeah, there’s a lot of overreaction.

Looked that way at pints last year too. Tough loss. But it’s an inexperienced team. Going to have these bumps. Some on here are abs will of course be overreacting as usual.
Overreacting? We’re 0-2 and lost to arguably the worst team in the conference. At what juncture would it be appropriate for us to react in your opinion?
That's the scary part they have not gotten to the real difficult part of the conference schedule yet. Wait until they play teams that can walk AND chew gum at the same time.

Lack of talent is a substantial factor

All speculation but from my perspective when you play to a style as unique as this where virtually everything is predicated on speeding the game up, it is extremely difficult to shift gears and change the approach late.We play for steals so we make a dumb situational foul 70 feet from the basket at a crucial time. Players are coached to essentially take the first shot that shows but with 3/4 minutes left and the lead we are supposed to downshift and run offense to run clock. I am not making excuses but as a player it becomes a whole different mental approach to the game and it is very, very difficult to do that. Mentally, it almost becomes the equivalent of playing the prevent defense in football; it shifts focus, maybe subconsciously, to that “playing not to lose” approach that is a killer. So decisions of what to do with the ball become confusing, the gravity of foul shots becomes magnified, etc.
Paul Westhead often talked about his biggest challenge in teaching players to “play fast” was getting them to keep that mentality for the entire game; in other words, never slow down and play “situationally”. He described the success he had at Loyola Marymount with his style as really being a product of the players completely buying in with no reservations. Of course having Bo Kimble, Hank Gaithers and Jeff Fryer didn’t hurt.
All of that aside and I will admit it might just be basketball psychobabble mental meandering, our lack of ability to play late with a lead has now reared its head with two different groups of players and that is disturbing to say the least.

Seriously, you think that the AD is going to tell/ask the coach to jettison an assistant coach. Hell they will just add another special assistant to the assistant to the assistant.

So, you can agree,we are in for a long season and lucky if we match last yrs confr record?
Trying to be positive, but nothing that I have seen since game 1 leans to confidence
Also this doesn’t look good for players we are trying to recruit

Of course I don't think he will do that, but it is warranted sometimes, IMO.

I'm not saying I would do that (let's see where we are at the end of the season), but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again.

That being said, he had good, but not great records, his first two years at Missouri and Arkansas too, so no moves till after next year.

With the lead and minutes remaining Posh takes the ball out of bounds passing to Cole who lobs a pass to a g'town player. That was a time CMA should have had Dunn in the back court with Alexander.

We are not that good.

This may very well be CMA's first season with a losing win/ loss record.

A major part of the reason why Georgetown shot 57% is that, once again for the 2nd game in a row, we have nobody who can guard a good strong post man. Mamu killed us on Sunday and Wahab did tonight as well. He was one blocked shot away from a triple double (17 points on 7-9 shooting, 11 rebounds and 9 blocked shots). More importantly, when he was doubled in the post, he often passed the ball out, which ultimately resulted in shooters making wide open jumpers, many of which were three pointers because we couldn't rotate quickly enough to defend the shots.

We gave this game away down the stretch. Lazy passes inbounding the ball which were intercepted and resulted in easy baskets, silly fouls committed 90 feet away from the basket, missed free throws at inopportune times, etc. The situation that bothered me the most was our last full possession. We should have held the ball for the final shot but we hoisted up a trey with lots of time left on the clock. It wasn't even a wide open shot. Even if the shot is made, we give the opponent plenty of time to get off a good shot for the win. Players need to be coached to always be cognizant of time and score.

A gritty effort by our team but a very disappointing and gut wrenching loss to a team picked to be at or near the bottom of our conference. Not a good way to start the league season.
The fact that we can't play with the lead is mostly coaching. CMA is a great guy, but I am becoming increasingly troubled with his game management. We lose way too many games we should win.
Yep.... We blew about 7 or 8 games last season where we were leading late only to succumb the lead and lose.

That's a pattern from where I stand. And, we've done it in this early season versus Boston College but thankfully won. Eventually, it's reflective of the coach.

This is outrageous. If Earlington played 32 minutes, hed of had 25 points and we would have won this game easily in regulation. its like coach didnt want to win this game.

Mamu is not even remotely a post man and we play poor defense across the board. We provide equal opportunity “opportunities” to all opposition players.
