I still think Smith , Wheeler, Soriano and Coburn will come around to enough of an extent to lengthen our bench. They just need more time to get acclimated to what CMA wants. I think they will be serviceable reserves when all is said and done.

Who are you giving game ball to ?

Posh had nice #'s, but think Wusu & Nyiwe split it

Is this the new plan moving forward?  Start Posh, Wusu, Mathis, Champy and Nyiwe and play them 30 minutes each.  And the other 10 minutes can get spread around with our terrible bench?

If so, count me in.  I love it.  Always that the subbing in and out every 2 minutes hurt the teams cohesion and rythnm.

Our starters get 30 minutes a night each game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Count me in Coach!!!!!!!!!!

I think our bench will be ok when all is said and done. The guys who are playing the best are all the guys who were here last year. I think these other guys will catch up and become serviceable players off the bench.

Sorry, hope I'm wrong (as I've said many years as a fan)  but from what I've seen of this team so far, I don't see us finishing in the top half of the BE. Too many holes, both offensively (no wing to complement Julian's scoring) and defensively (need I say more).

CMA is still unable to use his timeouts.

agreed they split it

We came our energized and this game was never really in doubt. Having said that, we beat a team picked to finish dead last(14th) in a mid major conference. This game did  not change my opinion of this team one iota. We still have the same strengths(Posh and Champ) and the same weaknesses as we did before.  And no I am not convinced based on this game that Nyiwe is going to be a significant contributor moving forward. I hope he is, but one decent game against a low level opponent ain't gonna convince me of that. Just like it didn't convince me when Stanley, Coburn, Smith and Soriano had good games against low level comp.

I'm glad to see CMA adjusting and not try to force subs and getting hung up and having a bench unit.

And I agree with you for the most part, I think Posh and Champ need to be at 35 MPG, Mathis and Wusu 30 MPG, and Nyiwe 25 MPG.  Give Stef Smith most of the back up guard minutes, then whoever is playing better between Pinzon and Coburn the rest.  Split the backup center minutes with Soriano and Stanley.  Then let Wheeler get those 5 minutes backing up Champ.

It certainly looks like that right now Redken. We just have to hang our hat on the fact the CMA teams usually improve as season progresses. It what we have to hope for now.

All of our starters played well, Wusu & Posh really outstanding. But I'd give the game ball to Coach for starting Nyiwe.

We won by 10+, so I have no complaints. On to the next one.

I completely disagree.  i am very encouraged with what I saw tonight.  Putting Wusu and Nyiwe in the starting lineup and playing them major minutes makes us a much more dangerous team.  We are more athletic, better on D, better rebounding and better passing the ball.  And I fell like this team had a spark that they havent had this year and that was created by Wusu and Nyiwe's energy.

I am excited to see the new starting 5 play major minutes moving forward and I think we are going to see a much better team in the next 2 games which are going to be tough games.  Monmouth and Colgate might not be Duke, but these are teams that will beat you if you are not on your game.

I really like this new look St Johns and I think we are onto something here.  Stay tuned.

nywie will not be able to play those kind of minutes against good competition.

Then who is?  Cause it sure as heck aint Soriano.  He too unathletic and slow footed to play against elite competition.  There is a reason Nyiwe was at Texas Tech and Soriano was at Fordham.

I’m not ready to give up on Smith, Wheeler, Coburn or Soriano. I think they will eventually get it.

Nywie almost fouled out against Fordham’s frontline tonight.  I promise you he cannot to play 30 minutes a game on a regular basis against a Big East frontline.  Soriano, Stanley and Wheeler will play plenty.  If we got more than 20 minutes a game from Nywie in Big East play, I’d be shocked.  He played well today but I’m not convinced he’s as good as Josh Roberts was.  Time will tell.

I was very pleased that we played with more effort and much more energy than I have seen in recent games. Champ and Posh played really well and Wusu and Mathis also had very good games.

CMA must have read my post today when he started my "Junkyard Dog 5". Nyiwe certainly is raw but he played with a lot of energy and was a real presence inside, something we have sorely lacked so far this season. I was pleased to see less of Wheeler and Coburn. They need to show more effort if they want to play more minutes.

The guys that I would like to see more of is Pinzon and Stanley. I think there is some J.Y.D. in them, too.

Good win, fellas. Three more games to prep for the Big East wars.
