(POST-GAME) @DePaul, Wed. Jan. 27, 9p, FS-1

A few takeaways; Can't remember last time we won wire to wire and comfortably in a conference game.  2 BE road wins in a row, also unheard of.  Moore plays well hanging around the paint.  That's where he should be.  Cole shot well.  Need to keep him engaged.  Champ continues to get better.  He has such a quiet confidence that I really like.  Posh continues to get better and love that he is scoring more.  Other guys played well.  Tough game for Earlington outside of the charges.  Team seems to be getting better.  Expecting a back to earth game where board blows up very soon but enjoying the last few games.

This game, again, shows the importance of this team's depth.   You never know which secondary players are going to give the boost for a victory.

Dunn has a very nice assist to turnover ratio this year (3.5 to 1.7) and his free throw percentage is up to 67% after a rough start.

Been a bit critical of him, but last night he really played a smart and productive game sharing ball and setting up things at key times.

Dunn has his limitations, but I think he's really worked hard to limit his outside shots and play within the system.  He was a very late addition for us last year and I think he has performed admirably.  We've played well the last three games without our second leading scorer and Dunn has been an instrumental part of our success.  Kudos to him for his hard work and great attitude.

If we are going to complete with the top half of the league, we are going to need Dunn to make (let alone take) a 10-15 foot jumper. The defense is playing him to drive every possession, daring him to shoot. Love his assist to t/o ratio, but being one dimensional will hurt the team in crunch time.

My business partner went to DePaul and we have a standing bet every time we play each other and the bet is for drinks.

It has worked out well for me generally (with a few exceptions).

Onto a Win over Wojo, a Coach K. accolade.

I don't know if it was mentioned on the pre-game or game thread, but Ray Salnave has been horrible this year for Depaul. He had a brutal turnover in the second half when they had a chance to get within 6 (or five on a three).  He was basically non-existent on the court (22 minutes, 2 pts, he averages 2.9, and five rebounds, avgs 2.4) although you can say the rebound figure was okay or good.

To think several of us (including me) wanted him here after he entered the portal as a graduating Senior with one year eligibility (now two) but at the time we had no official room and he picked Depaul.  Then LJ left and due to his late decision, we lost out on two potential replacements (Perez and Salnave) for him and we were pissed (even those who didn't want Salnave due to the lateness of LJ's decision).  With how Salnave has played this year and the stats he has accumulated (barely), if he had come here and had the same results, the criticism on this board might have gone to new heights.

Although I guess we had no interest in him, Paulicap played well for Demons .  Wonder why he left the Jaspers ?

Because he was a Sr with a chance to free transfer to a better school

Last night was an outlier.  You can tell from the opening tip he was going to play angry.  A kid from Queens who SJU didnt go after on two occasions.  Of course.  But look at the rest of the games this year.  It was an outlier.

Be nice for Toro to have an outlier he might go for 40 and 30 the way he's been playing. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

This game was for the Cole haters.

Really?  He took 18 shots against the worst team in the Big East, committed at least one boneheaded turnover, and turned an easy layup into what I think was an air ball.  Suffice it to say I'm not putting him on my All Big East team just yet.

Actually glad he was hunting his shot. Rather he be aggressive and learn when to pull it back than to be passive.
Moore has cut back on the hair trigger 3s which has led to better performances. Perhaps the pressure of coming in as juniors with expectations hurt them. Hopefully, both are finding their roles.

We needed this one and the team played hungry.  Brief thoughts.....

Job Security
If I am a DePaul fan, I want Leitao fired yesterday.  It must be maddening for their fan base.

Well Dunn
I thought Dunn played his best game as a Johnny.  His approach to this game reflects the best way he can help us.  He had 9 assists, 1 turnover and was 5-for-5 from the line. He is not a 3-baller.  Of course, his defense and overall effort is always there.

Hey Pauly!! (Rocky Voice)
Paulicap's performance was mostly indictative of our weakness.  This was the first time Paulicap grabbed double digit rebounds in a Big East game and, excluding our next game versus DePaul, he may never do it again.  Nice player, but we made him look like Bill Russell

Put it in the Hole Cole
Happy to see him looking for his shot.  Still a work in progress, but that stroke will pay dividends.

OMG-osh Posh
I just can't believe what I am seeing sometimes.  How the heck does he consistently find a way to finish in the paint (in traffic)?

Sometime Less is Moore
Moore can really impact the game.  He will benefit from some maturity.

Somebody Make this Kid Mad
I keep rooting for Toro to contribute, but he almost looks disengaged.  I would like to see him get angry, agressive or more physical.  Maybe it's just not his way.

YMCA.....I mean Why CMA?
Say what you want, coach brings value to the table.  Teams improve under his leadership. Period.

Now.....on to Marquette, after which we will either continue to praise or decide everyone sucks and CMA forgot how to coach.  /media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png

Nice post, you are right Toro plays like a lazy player

I am certain Toro is not lazy - Anderson is not bringing in anyone who fits that description.  What I would take away from bringing in Toro (and the current move to bring in Nyiwe) is that Anderson recognized that he had a hole in the post and he took a flyer on a player to try to fill it.  It hasn't worked, and other than the total failure to stop the dribble (Posh and Cole I'm looking at you, and yes Julian you too) it is our biggest problem on defense.  And defense is what this team needs to win games.

Paulicap leaving Manhattan for a better school??

I think Manhattan is better than DePaul.

Not a better level of competition which is probably what he was looking for.
