(POST-GAME) @DePaul, Wed. Jan. 27, 9p, FS-1

Yeah I take it back.  I didn't realize Dunn had that many assists.  I thought he reeled it in maybe too much from at least driving to the hoop, but I can't argue with success nor the numbers.  He was certainly under control at every point.

I like the fact that Dunn is playing in the context of the system, and deferring to Posh to score more.  I have thought that Posh was able to and needed to look to score more for us to play our best, so I am happy to see it.  Dunn is probably used to playing with an offensive minded and shoot first (not that that is what Posh is) PG since he played with Ponds in high school.  I think, the combo of Posh and Dunn is a good one as currently playing.  And, I have always thought Moore would and give us somethig we have not had in recent years.  Nice to see Cole settling in (hopefully) too.  And, I have long thought Roberts would be a positive if allowed to play.

All in all, the team seems to be jelling, and hopefully can continue to play well and reach post season this year.

Pretty enjoyable to watch too.

Can't wait to watch the next St. John's game whenever that may be.

This team has me excited to watch St. John's basketball as opposed to watching the St. John's games anticipating a loss.

Not much to add to everything positive that has been said, especially what has been said about my main man Dunn. Playing under control and within this game on offense. And as I've said before, he and Posh are a nightmare on D for opposing teams. So proud of these kids for righting the ship. Hopefully we continue in the same direction. Kudos to CMA and the staff for what they've done. On to Marquette!

That Cole pump fake, dribble and shot could be such an effective weapon if he continues to play within himself and the guards can drive and dish.

This game was for the Cole haters.

Really?  He took 18 shots against the worst team in the Big East, committed at least one boneheaded turnover, and turned an easy layup into what I think was an air ball.  Suffice it to say I'm not putting him on my All Big East team just yet.

34 Minutes, 18 points, 7-16 from the floor, 3-8 from three. ONE turnover.
That will give us a chance to win games. Keep hatin'

And a couple solid passes down the stretch

Nice win on the road in the BE.  I'll take that any day, even if it's DePaul.  I'm sure teams feel the same way about us, to a lesser degree.  Anyway, Dunn played a solid game, not forcing his shot.  And the assits tell the story.  We may have dodged a bullet with Champ and his ankle and hand, although the ankle concerned me more.  Posh played very well, as did the JUCOs.  Although, as a basketball official, I would have gone over to CMA and told him to reign in Moore and his ridiculous screaming and hanging on the rim.  It's going to hurt us at a bad time.  Amazing how a guy like Paulicap can look so good against us.  We offrered little to no defense at the rim all night.  But we survived a really poor effort by Earlington.  He had too much run in this game.  On to the next one. Feels like this team is jelling a bit earlier than last year, which is a good thing.

I see you went outta your way to crap on a player that plays on the team in which you root.  Give yourself a hand.

A good Win on the Road. Even against DePaul.  As bad as the last 20 plus years for us have been , imagine being a Blue Demon fan .   They have been a disaster since entering the BE.  Looking at their Team this year , they have talent like Weems who was invisible , Freeman Liberty, Hall, Charlie Moore, etc.  watching the game I was befuddled by the constant Weave they were trying to use . It looked like  HS team . Paulicao the Manhattan Jasper transfer was a beast in the first half . It seemed like he had 40 rebounds . Not quite but, a lot . Anyway , Leitao's Team wasn't able to follow up on their Marquette Win and our D contributed to their demise . They look like a team with individual talent that hasn't been able to put it together as a group . Exactly opposite of Team CMA . I thought Julian looked a little gimpy after the Ankle twist in the first half . He didn't hsve the lift or, burst to the hoop that he usually has . Hope it's ok .

how close were we on Paulicap? feels like deja vu with Femi on Depaul.... was he ever interested in SJU or am i imagining that?

All the well deserved praise aside- one thing thats becoming consistent, the D sagging off Dunn when he has the ball. thought he had a good mid range game, would like to see him shoot those, but maybe he's focusing on getting others involved, but his strength, his driving, has been taken away as defenses know hes no threat to shoot.

Team is starting to gel. What we saw at the end of last season, except with more talent.

Posh is special. Starting to pick up on little things that takes upperclassmen a couple of years to get.

Dunn was under control. He had one questionable shot. Was delivering dimes. Sometimes it's other people's night, and Dunn was fantastic setting people up. More please.

Dunn and Posh are really starting to play well with one another. And they are pure hell on defense.  They are gonna be remembered as a great one-two punch when it's all said and done.

Julian did was he does. Was encouraged to see him catch that lob so easily in the second half after the ankle roll.

When Josh Robert's plays well, we play well.

Moore is figuring it out. He doesn't have to do too much. Just run, be attentive, and wait for a dime by the rim. He will dunk it everytime. No questions asked. Love it.

Cole is getting his confidence back and that is a scary thing for the big East. I don't mind 18 shots. He's a scorer, and besides the weak layup misses, he's getting his groove. Takes JUCO kids at least 3 quarters of the year to get accustomed to big boy ball.

More plays posting Wusu up on small guards please. Hell I'll take Wusu posting up on forward!

This teams confidence is rising and they enjoy playing with each other. Gonna be a fun back half of conference guys.

I guess I am going to be the contrarian on this thread.  We got absolutely destroyed in the paint by a transfer from Manhattan College.  Staying in front of the man who is dribbling the ball continues to be a mystery for far too many of our players.  After making generally good shot choices in the first half, we had a long stretch after halftime in which we forced shot after shot for no good reason.

Two things saved us from this being a close game:  Turnovers (which is part of the plan, but it shouldn't be mutually exclusive with actually playing sound defense) and the fact that DePaul continues to be one of the worst-coached teams I've ever seen.  I would bet that if you switched Anderson and Leitao then you could also switch the score/outcome.

I love that we got the win, especially with Williams out and Champagnie getting dinged and missing major minutes and Josh pulling a disappearing act and Toro making his usual contributions (next to nothing, which remains the biggest disappointment of the year to me, we really needed him to be a serviceable big).  But there are a lot of holes that still need to be plugged, and if we were playing a good team when we tried to give the game away in the second half they would have taken it.

The two main bright spots I took away from the game are that Posh played a great game, and the team built some confidence which they need (especially Cole and Moore).  We get better every game, but I would not confuse this short winning streak or last night's game in particular with "we're a good team."  We can maybe become one, but we aren't there yet.

Toro has been such a non factor , we would have been better keeping Damian Sears for another year. Sears was serviceable at the end of last season and at times did some good things in the paint as far as rebounding, defense and scoring some garbage baskets. Which is really all we need from Toro and can't even get that.

Totally agree. I'm just happy to see improvements. Seems like we've come so far in such a short time, especially on the defensive end. Still a long ways to go, and I still don't consider this near a top tier team in the league, but if we can get into the middle i'd be happy.

DePaul was terrible. Couldn't do much of anything well. Even though they have a size advantage over us, they are such a terrible shooting team.

Toro will be fine.  He's not a scorer, but can give Josh a breather when needed.

CMA either believes in letting players play through their mistakes, or is fine with ill advised 3s early in the shot clock. There were a number of bad shots in each half, or the game would have been over much earlier.

I would like to see Addae-Wusu play to his strengths a little more and ease up on the 3s. He can pass and made some big plays near the basket yesterday. Cole and Moore both tend to get out of control at times and commit turnovers that can be avoided with a little more concentration.  All of this can be corrected.  Toro knows how to play, but just isn't a fit in this system. He never looks comfortable on the court. He gives maximum effort though.

We could really use 1 player that can post up and rebound. That is the number 1 need for next season.

I kept hoping for a long time, but I've given up on him being anything more than a 5 minute per game player.  He just doesn't seem to be able to read and react quickly enough to be useful.  You can use him as a body against an immobile big, and he can grab a couple of rebounds for you but that's it.  He sometimes shows a surprisingly deft offensive move to the rim down low, but then so did Sears - with a Haley's Comet sort of frequency.

Fortunately the apparent resurgence of Josh makes Toro a spare part.  I had hoped for more but oh well.
