FYI for all that are saying that Roberts is a liability on offense, he has the highest FG % on the team! He needs to play the MOST! This playing small ball has not worked. How about playing our BIGS together . Roberts , Sears, and Champagne together with two guards. We can be beasts inside. We have nothing else to lose.
You do realize the majority of those baskets are likely dunks and put backs. Hardly a way to build an offense through that. If you had Shaq sure.

Roberts has lost any confidence he had earlier in the year which was primarily against non conference opponents.

The pickup of Dunn last spring was a great move by SJU as he played hard all this season and stabilized coaches defensive strategy. But looking ahead ,with his limited shooting skills, thirty seven per cent from the field and twenty three from three, and being in his fourth yr of college I wouldn't count on him for next season as many posters are doing.
Dunn never looked comfortable playing the point and SJU has a high recruit for that position who is regarded to be a poor outside shooter which means Dunn would probably play shooting guard. This would result in three men covering Cole the rare SJU recruit with a good shooting reputation and the SJU backcourt being encouraged by all big east opposition to shoot from outside to their hearts cootent.
And another year wasted. Get a shooter for the shooting guard position or play Cole at shooting guard and recruit a shooting small forward. Let's not go thru this again.
No defensive tenacity.

Not what I expected from Anderson. Even without his ideal profile, these guys with the rotations should be at near 100% intensity on most possessions
Here we go again,.horrendous defense. Why have the weak side help against an excellent outside shooting team? And how we allowed Creighton to penetrate as we trailed behind leading to easy baskets. 11 for 13 two point baskets in the first half.

These four.....

1. LJ
2. Williams Jr
3. Champagnie
4. Earlington

The team is made up of some great kids, but everyone else is expendable for next year.
Very happy for Earlington. He's worked his butt off and clearly can compete in the BE. Heron has his limitations, but he is very clearly a team first guy. Wish him well, suspect he will do fine after basketball.
On Wall Street?

At this point at this point you would could say next years starters should be
Posh PG, Cole SG, Champagnie SF, and Earlington PF (the kid is improving alot, and tonight was his best game by far). That could change with the off season additions.

Let's hope Posh and Wusu can shoot.

Roberts’ minutes reduction a trend.
Reminds me of the year Polee was here. He would start every game then disappear to the bench rest of the

game
I think Roberts issue is that this teams struggles offensively already and Roberts is still very raw offensively. He’s limited offensively and doesn’t shoot free throws well either. Defensively and rebounding wise he’s fine. But, when you have a team that struggles to score it’s tough to have him out there against a team like creighton that you know will knock down threes and score a ton of points. If CMA had his roster and we were pressing for 40 minutes, running The floor and scoring in transition then Roberts would be much more effective. But CMA doesn’t have the roster for that yet so he’s plays a lot more in the half court than he wants to currently and Roberts just can’t excel the way CMA needs him to in the half court right now.
Could say the same about Williams.

I don’t agree. Guards don’t have the luxury of being raw offensively, like the bigger guys do. Guards have to be close to ready to go when they hit college because their recruitment is predicated on factors like shooting and scoring etc. williams is a heck of an athlete but we have not seen any real ability to become either a slasher nor shooter. He’s entering his junior year. Hopefully he gets healthy and shows something next season otherwise he will move down the depth chart. I like the kid though. Just haven’t seen any starting material from him.

As far as Dunn goes, he’s getting underrated because of his shooting percentages. He’s been extremely hard to stop of the dribble for other teams and had been a real thorn in their side despite us not having any other options. Add some more shooters like Cole and some other offensive options and Dunn will do even better. He’s a high energy player and both he and Posh are going to be VERY hard to contain going to the basket. I’d like to see both work on their shooting to add some extra level to their games.

Also, Coach is looking at his first losing season ever. Just in case the concept is a foreign one, you spell defense: DEFENSE. It would be a novel idea if they played it occasionally!!!!

94 points . Enough said.
Just was going to post same, ridiculous.
Agreed. That has nothing to do with talent. As i said in the first half, SJU has more than enough athleticism to play better D
When did Heron become purely a jump shooter. Obviously he’s been disappointing but this is beyond regression. Do you think he’s not fully healthy? Is he limited bc he lost the weight? Very strange.
In his 2 years here, has not been able to finish. Good spot up shooter...probably not much more.

As is Roy Williams (10-13). Anderson and Williams are 2 of 3 coaches with atleast 15 years of coaching without a losing season.
Izzo could be the only coach with that mark after this season.
Fellas, we need a LOT more talent than Anderson was left with to get to where we want in this league. Anderson had to recruit some stopgaps and fortunately guys like Dunn and Rutherford worked out pretty well but not enough to rise the level of the team overall. Earlington is a guy that is hustling and buying in and it shows. I think we will end up seeing a bit more turnover than initially thought. I only caught glimpse of Creighton game but we don’t have the horses to play with them. We have very few if any guys that we will be hurting without entering next season. The rebuilding is starting with this 2020 class, as unfortunate as that is for us long suffering SJU fans. As far as Roberts goes, I really like him and hope he doesn’t go anywhere and buys in fully. I think he has a lot of untapped talent. Worried about Gwill as paultzman mentioned. He is t playing his way into more PT and is also really tenuous and limited on offense.
We hung in this game for pretty long despite the talent gap. Our lack of even one dependable scorer puts a lot of pressure on every possession. The good news is we wont be taking a big step back next year despite the loss of our seniors.

Mark Few, as well, is part of that group, and the NCAA doesn't recognize Jim Boeheim, but he's never had a losing year, either.

Seems like we're playing less and less of the 40 minutes of hell. Creighton's obviously better than us and hit threes from seemingly half court, however they only had a 7 man rotation and we hardly pressed. I don't get it at all. I didn't expect much this season, so I'm not particularly frustrated. We were picked to finish at the bottom for obvious reasons. I feel many people got way too ahead of themselves with our ooc record. I'm honestly hoping just to grab a few more wins to at least finish .500. I do have a guy feeling that we're going to win Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

They only play around 7, but all of them could handle the ball, and pass. They were playing 5 guards at times, because they're not a big team. Don't think the press would have been effective.

The problem is that, we have no fallback defense to rely on.
Doubtful LJ is coming back...also heard a few teams are hot for earlington.
Not sure what that means. Earlington has flourished. Would be surprised if he chose to sit out a year.

Agree, and there are minutes for him here. He’s improving nicely and from all I’ve heard the staff loves his work ethic.
