We drove to the hoop about 20 times it resulted in about 17 blocks and 3 charges with no fouls called . WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt, that’s what happens when your guards don’t shoot from the outside. The defense is packing it in just waiting for the dribble drive and are right there to defend it. Posh and Mathis have totally given up on there jump shots. There were a number of occasions where they were open with the ball in their hands at the three point line and instead of shooting decided to drive into the lane against a packed in defense and throw up wild shots. Posh and Mathis have to take and make some threes otherwise you won’t have any driving lanes. I’m not saying to just jack up threes but you have to take some. Otherwise it really hinders our ability to do some things offensively. Those two can’t be in the floor together if that’s how they’re going to approach the game.

Go get drew valentine from Chicago loyola and give him whatever he wants to coach this team.  Im sick of being told we play mindless basketball on every broadcast.

So it's decided, you are changing your out of date name to Saint Valentine when the powers that be listen to you and hire him.  I think it has a ring to it.

Every year there is an off season discussion about the hope that our guards improve their long range shooting. Then the new season starts and there is frustration seeing little to no improvement. I have always believed that if you are not a shooter when you enter college, you are not likely to become one. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. And if you are not a shooter by the time you are a junior or senior like Mathis, then forget about it.  In major conferences, it helps to find high level athletes that can shoot some when you recruit them. There are exceptions. Champ did not look like he would be a serious 3 point threat as a freshman. His hard work paid off. I am very hopeful that Wheeler will step up and become a 3 point threat. Champ will look even better if he has support on offense. Champ works harder for every shot than any 20 point scorer out there. Someone has to step up.  Wheeler has to show up every game to right the ship.

Officiating may have sucked but you generally have steep mountain to climb when starting guards shoot 7/30. Dylan really forcing things and getting more minutes than merited

Sorry to be a broken record but this is the second year in a row Dylan has gotten more minutes than merited.  He does a lot of good things but he has major flaws at this point in his career.

Agree that Dylan is a sixth man d spark plug at best.  My other issue with him is he seems to avoid contact at the rim as his preferred technique.  Every time he's challenged when he is driving it's a misguided fading layup or under the basket reverse flip.  Low percentage shots that are also less likely to result in whistles.  He's definitely not aggressive enough in those situations. Take it strong young man.  Might help with the foul discrepancy.

As a fan and close follower of the Loyola Chicago program for several years now, there is a lot to like about Drew Valentine, but he is achieving success largely with the roster Porter Moser had assembled, including with 4 super seniors, and running much of the same system Moser runs.  I think the next couple of years will be crucial to his development, and with Loyola moving to the A-10, let's see its level of success then.

And in no way do I think we need or should move on from CMA until it is readily apparent we must.  We are far from there yet.

Respect Wusu’s fearlessness, but his “giveth & taketh” play has been much more detrimental recently. It is clear CMA likes his aggression, but perhaps the team is better served bringing him off bench and also his mega minutes this year don’t seem merited. I think Smith at least offers a better chance to keep teams honest on the perimeter considering Julian is our only threat of the main group. Smith has his warts defensively but you can’t continue to invest so many minutes in a guard trio that really present no shooting threat, 7/30 last night.

Lastly, Posh is a warrior, but I don’t prefer he play off the ball so much and become a “power forward” too often. I think he should be honing his PG skills with penetration and dishing with only occasional ventures down low to steal a rebound or two. Having Dylan handle the ball at top of key so much and putting him in decision making role is  risky. On to a weak GT team that they still need to respect.

Simply put, Wusu does lots of good things, but needs to refine his game, minimizing mistakes - bad passes, ill advised drives or outside shots to become an impact player on offense.

It would be nice to know if Pinzon and Coburn are sick or hurt.

Not worth rehashing what went wrong or right because anything less than a W at this point isn't enough. We're now halfway through the year with 0 Q1 wins and a NET over 100. We're in bad, bad shape and aren't even on track for the NIT. Need to go on a streak to keep this season alive.

There was no foul on the last play of regulation. The ref played to the home crowd. I recall the ncaa championship game with Sexton hall when the hall player was fouled but there was no call in the games last second. Those touch fouls are not called to end games. Plus the refs were against us all game calling charging fouls like water

I’m sure everything has been said. It hurts because we had it. I thought it was a really good college bball game but not necessarily well played by both teams. Uconn shot worse than we did from the ft line. Speaking of the stripe..how bout those guys? Good grief that was disgusting. Please take your time while Uconn is able to draw up a gift inbounds play to save their chances, what’s the rush?

Wheeler playing great last 2. Soriano getting better on O. Stanley getting better on D. I think we’re about any one of Pinzon, Smith, or Coburn finding their rhythm away from being where we need to be.

Welcome to our first must win of the season.

I agree with those who have said that Posh needs to have the ball in his hands more.  Wusu doesn't handle it well enough to run the point and Posh doesn't shoot it well enough to play the wing.  Posh is a tough kid who plays crazy hard, but he needs to be a pass/drive PG.and not play on the wing where he doesn't help us with spacing.

And I love Posh and I love it that we have another good NYC point guard, but the Ponds vs. Posh debate from a few weeks back looks a little silly right now.

Posh has become a human turnover this year.  Maybe thats why he isnt handling the ball so much.

READ ZACH'S WRIEUP....SEEMS REFS DONT LIKE US...YOU CAN GO BACK TO BILLY SINGLETON VS COACH K... LEADING BY 9 AND THEN THE REFS... THE 15-0 TEAM LOST TO THE HALL BECAUSE OF A REF MISTAKE...NOW 2 MORE BAD VISITS...IS THERE A CLOUGHERTY INVOLVED?

some analyst on a telecast spoke of Posh's injured hand (IDR which hand or announcer) as being a potential cause for his shooting issues this year

With the season approaching the half way mark the progress of the six backcourt men has to be a major disappointment to the SJU staff. Posh and WuSu have not improved their outside shooting and Mathis was well known as not being an outside threat. The two so called shooters brought in as transfers have failed. Anderson probably felt they would have trouble defending in the big east but their ability to shoot could offset that. That hasn’t been the case so he will probably go with Posh , WuSu and Mathis for the majority of playing time.
The sixth backcourtman, Pinzon who appeared to the best of the six to provide both offense and defense help appears to be going thru a wasted year because of COVID and whatever else is going on with him.

Pinzon reported to be out indefinitely for Covid related issues.
wonder if he has long haul syndrome

People seem to be under the impression that a player should automatically be at 100% as soon as they get off the COVID list.  I think they overlook the fact that many people are symptomatic and that symptoms and deconditioning can linger for various periods of time.  I suspect that has had something to do with the minutes/performance of a few of our guys when they first come back off the list.  It sounds like unfortunately Pinzon may have gotten the worst of it - hopefully he will feel better sooner rather than later.
