(POST-GAME) @Connecticut, Mon., Jan. 18, 2:30p, FOX / 970 AM WNYM

I thought CMA has been better (not perfect) at  in game coaching.  Still time-out challenged.

I'm sure this point was made but I thought what Hurley did with Sanogo was malpractice.  We had no answers for him and Hurley pulled him up 8 with about 11 minutes left and never put him back in the game.  Story of the game IMHO.

Pleasantly shocked....  Gutted out a W that I didn't think they had in them.

GIve CMA and team credit for their hard work...

Way to go team !

Things the team does well:

- Speeds up the opponent
- Competes physically and mentally
- Creates turnovers
- At times, gets to the rim

Things the team does not do well:

- Defend the paint
- Box out
- Make good decisions (both passing and shooting)
- Value the ball

Remedies:

- Defending the paint has improved some with the Return of The Joshi, but really the team needs a big in the mold of a Theo John or a Tyrique Jones - someone with size who can stand up by himself without getting help.  IMHO part of the problem with the perimeter D is caused by the need to help in the paint.  So that's basically a recruting issue.
- Boxing out is something the staff has to address.  I can't count the number of times the opponents are inside of Champagnie, Roberts, Earlington, Toro, Moore on the rebounds.
-  Making good decisions and valuing the ball is primarily on the point guards.  Film study might help.

Today the overriding factor was that mental and physical toughness, and the willingness to compete and just refuse to go away kept them in the game and they were able to wear down a team that was playing without its star.  But a road win is a road win and we will gladly take it. The Marquette loss is such a shame, they would actually be in the middle of the pack if they had won that.

But they are clearly improving game to game and they should be able to win at least a couple more games this season, maybe as many as 3 or 4 depending on who they catch and when.

What a gutsy win! I will say agaoin - I love Posh. Also Wusu.

No one is happier tonight than I am. Not only are all my friends huge Husky fans but two of my kids graduated from UCONN - neither one is answering their phone tonight.

Ty guys for beating those guys always great to beat them. Just wanted to acknowledge this great win.
They were awful, then I say I'm done posting and all of a sudden look much better. So don't worry guys, I'll stay away from talking about sju.
Do It for the team lol.

Since the next game is next Wednesday, they'll add the DePaul home game somewhere between Friday night and Sunday.

Now I don't feel bad rooting for UConn the last few games so they'd get into the rankings. Awesome win! :)

Whenever my buddy Lawman posts it's a worthwhile read. Takes too many sabbaticals but when he posts he is on the money :)

When you root for a team heart and soul it seems that you develop hates for certain opponents. While this may not be a rational point of view, it still is absolutely and totally true for me and I suspect probably others as well.

As a Football Giant fan they can go 2-14 but if those two wins are against the Cowboys then the season is okay with me. Being a lifelong Mets fan and rooting against the Yankees those subway series games, that started in 1997, always are far more emotional for me than any other games on the schedule. My neighbor in my building, who was ten apartments away at the time, said that he could here my scream loud and clear when Luis Castillo dropped A-Rod's pop fly to turn certain victory into defeat and ruin the 2009 Baseball season.

As far as my diehard St. John's fandom goes, it is UCONN that I have truly despised. Maybe it was the presence of the evil and obnoxious Jim Calhoun or perhaps it also has been being at so many St. John's-UCONN games at the Garden, with their mostly unlikable fans all over the place. All I know is that I was miserable about them returning to the Big East.

That all said, since they are here and I can't do anything about that fact, I am thrilled that we stuck it to them today. Not only was it an unexpected victory but it was the kind of gritty hard fought comeback that will typify this team if they are to succeed.

I love the blue collar tough it out type of team that they were today. The last several games there has been a noticable change in our overall defensive presence. I credit some of this to the addition of Josh Roberts into the rotation and some of it to a change in intensity of all the players.

Special Kudos to Posh Alexander who was just great today and whose will to win is off the charts.

What a game by posh and the duke.  Wusu and roberts played big time as well.

I think gwill being out helped us as the rotation was shortened and it let wusu and the duke get into a groove.  Moving forward, coach should shorten the rotation and get some key kids more minutes.

id like to see less moore, dunn and cole and more roberts, duke and wusu.

Cant disagree (except for Dunn as he is tough and a great defender). . .I actually wanted Roberts in the game in place of Cole in 2nd half...Really disappointed in Cole...Today was all about the 2 OSL kids and Earlington...

We shouldn't spend another dime on Juco recruiting. The phrase "Juco All American" means about as much as "Luxury Condo". . .On toughness alone, OSL would have beaten the Juco teams

Even Donny Marshall was saying the calls against us were questionable at best.
Even though I hate all things Uconn Donny is pretty fair in his games most of the time
i think he is good and usually throws a few bouquets our way

he can afford to be magnanimous, he owned us when he played for yunon.
