.@StJohnsBBall’s Nick Rutherford my new favorite player. Plays likes he goes to the electric chair if he loses. And, he’s a Dallas kid from Allen HS.
6:29 PM - 31 Dec 2019

We are really a poor outside shooting team,
But what seams more critical is our rebounding is pathetic
Butler is a pretty small team.

Wait till we have to play some squads with big guys up

What’s. Up with Steere?
He didn’t get a minute
Roberts also got little time
Also was Rutherford on the Floor on the final play?

1) I agree with not putting Figgy back in. Go with the guys that erased the 20 point lead. Its not fair to them. and it shows Figgy and Heron that defense is going to win games.
2) Greg Willams is getting is confidence and into game shape. He looked good tonight and hopefully he gets more aggressive offensively. I think he's capable of putting up about 10 points a game
3) even with Figgy and Heron we are an offensively challenged team.
4) the defensive intensity seems to be increasing with every game. It will be hard to match that intensity on the road in the next game
5) 9-9 in conference gets us in the tourney. We need to hold serve at home. So with this loss we need to pick up a win on the road,
What I dont get is after Caraher hit the 3 to tie the game he never gets to take another shot. At the end Dunn took everything on himself. He wanted to be the star. Caraher was open for a 3 to win the game. It's a team game guys. Pass the ball!

After we squandered leads in previous games, many, including myself, talked about basketball being a game of runs and it is. So we had a tremendous 2nd half run, got a lead late and then couldn’t close it out. It’s about W’s and L’s and in my opinion there are no moral victories and that was a bad loss. Another example of us not knowing how to play with a lead. And I may be harsh but Dunn backing that ball out was a “me” play and I just don’t see it.
Great point on Dunn play, inexplicable.
Yeah, I get that but that's an NYC pg mentality. He wants the ball in the end. Seems we forgot what he did against wvu at the end. You've got to live with it, good or bad until this team has more offensive talent.

Tough loss. Should’ve been able to close it out. Guys looked like a shell of themselves in the first half. CMA must’ve gotten after them pretty good at halftime.

Rutherford is warrior. Willed this team back in the game. Our bench is looking like the bright spot of this team. Didn’t expect a goose egg from LJ. Has to take better shots and play smarter on defense.

But man, I’m proud of the fight. Defense was on a different level in the second half. I wouldn’t of put LJ back in either. But those guys had been out there a long time. Kinda wish he would’ve gotten in around 2 mins left.

The play was a clear out for him on the left side of the floor. He tried to attack but lost the ball and kicked it to Dunn. This is where basketball iq and awareness has to come in. But he’ll be better in that situation next time.

I don’t think the big East will be able to handle us when we are engaged the whole game on defense. Think we will win this Xavier game. And Georgetown. And then beat DePaul in MSG. Gonna be fun.
Well then why not full court press for 100% of the game and not 80%-85%
I'd go extreme every damn time.
It's harder to set up your press when you don't score.

I haven't read all the posts but to me one small critical point was when butler went to a 1-3-1 trap late in the game. We couldn't solve it, called a to and butler went back to man. That small adjustment on two defensive stands was huge in getting them back.

Caraher needs to be wide open and have time to check if his shoelaces are tied before he gets his shot off. Some guys don't want the pressure of taking the shot under those circumstances. Look I get the Dunn criticism, but he wants the ball, good or bad, give him credit for that. If you want to blame someone blame LJ for getting himself baited into committing 3 offensive fouls and taking our lone real scoring threat out of the game. And no, I didn't want him back sooner because the guys who got us back deserved to be in there.

Mike was asked about Steere in the post game press conference. Mike's response (we needed to win this game) gave me the impression he never planned on using Steere in this game.

I guess Steere hasn't been that impressive in practice. I hope that changes soon.

Agree with your points 9. I would hate to see Dunn become tentative and lose that fire, Also, I love Figgy, but he played dumb yesterday against a well coached team.

Caused 24 turn overs!! Awesome! We may not be top 25 yet or lead the Big East but this team will be alot to handle for opponents. Looking forward to some fast paced games and exciting wins.........Finally !!

-Rutherford was amazing last night. He hit some 3 and his d was amazing. MVP of the game.
-Greg Williams came alive offensively in the second half. He needs to score off the bench and I am hoping last night is a turning point for him.
-The duke was workman like as always with 10 points and solid d downlow. He needs to develop and nice 15 ft jumper to expand his game beyond driving to the hoop and putbacks. He dunk off the fastbreak last night brought the house down.

-Caraher needs to provide more scoring. He was brought in here to be a knockdown shooter but he hasnt been that guy.
-Champaignie did not give us anything last night and after a nice start to the season, he really hasnt provided much lately. We need more out of this guy and I think he is capable of that.
-Josh Roberts was getting pushed around down low last night and because of that, he ended up riding the pine. He needs to get stronger down low and also develop some offensive moves around the hoop.

And Vermont. He hit the big 3 pointer to tie that game, even though we lost.

When a guy wants the ball like he does, you're going to get burned sometimes, but if he doesn't want the ball, he'll burn you every time.

Steere not playing is ???. Speculation may be he isn’t Anderson’s type of Player ... he was recruited mid year by Matt A and CM last season ... after much hype here as to getting him eligible , maybe not going to be in the mix as much as us fans believed.. . We played much of the game without a big , as Roberts didn’t play much . Thus , a mystery as to why no Steere , since we were out rebounded throughout the game . Time will tell .

Love the effort. Love the team work. Love the player development. All moving in the right/positive direction. Long term we will be fine with CMA. In this game and several other games the late game offensive execution is just not sound. This needs to be improved upon. The offensive sets late this game and the smart move by Butler to go 1-3-1 was telling. 3 pt shooting needs to improve. FT shooting is getting better.

Maybe, but he scored his points by taking it to the basket. That is how most of our points were scored. We could not hit a jump shot so why pull it out with so little time on the clock? I was at the game, I also have it on DVR, I can't bring myself to watch that last possession.
Look this team is well coached and showed a lot of fight. We are knit-picking; it would have been a great win.
