Mullin coaching record since start of last season: 31-21
His in conference record is 8-19.
Just out of curiosity, if we don't make the Tournament this year would anybody be in favor of bringing the staff back for next year (which also would require extensions)? Believe the contracts are for either 5/6 years (currently year 4), and we can't have a lame duck staff.

For me, it's Tournament or bust. Obviously I am rooting hard for the team and would like to see the staff extended after a Tournament invite.
Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond give a rat's ass about a contract extension. They may even prefer no extension. Neither are worrying about weekly paychecks. The term lame duck doesn't apply to Mullin.

Regardless, we can't have a staff with only a year (or 2?) remaining on their contracts, correct? How could they recruit for future years?

Lavin for instance had a 6 year contract and was gone after year 5. I guess if Mullin's is for 6, then it doesn't necessarily need to be extended this year.

That scenario would be true in many college basketball programs but it doesn't apply to Mullin and St. John's in the new paradigm. Most players will not be playing for Mullin after 2 years. We have broken the transfer out and in record under this staff.

Thanks, coming from you...

Beast, you can't cherry pick to make him look better than he is. OOC is BS with 99% cupcakes. Comparing his teams to mid and low majors, he looks great. Comparing his teams to other similar programs in conference where it really matters, and he's THIRTY games below .500. 10 games below is horrible...but 30? The elephant's trunk is touching your nose and you're refusing to believe its existence. The elephant in the room is bad coaching. Not facilities, not lack of fan support which has been amazing this year. We play freestyle basketball and as a result we are wildly inconsistent. You can't go on winning streaks that way. You get hot, beat Marquette by 20, then get blown out by Butler for most of the game. Real coaches with real systems that work are what lead to consistency.

Good or bad coaching is defined by wins.
Before the Season, most on this Board were optimistic about the 2018-19 season and many also said the Staff had ‘no excuses’ this time out.
Well, the jury remains ‘out’ at this point: 15-4 overall, 3-4 in conference.
Few like our conference record, but most of us would acknowledge that our conference record should be 4-3 at this point and in 3rd place, behind Nova (who we should’ve beaten) and Marquette (who we beat).
We lost to DePaul, who we would’ve beaten if Ponds was healthy, and were caught flat-footed and outplayed at Butler.
There are 11 BE regular season games left.
It is premature to panic.
I truly think we’ll go 8-3 IF Ponds remains healthy the balance of the year and we’ll win at least 1 game in the BET.
That makes the Dance.
Let’s see what happens.

I like the confidence!

We are currently predicted to be a 10 seed on FS1

We are 9-1 in games that I’ve attended this year, the only loss was the seton hall game which we all agree shouldn’t have been a loss.

I go back to campus this week and will be present for the remaining home games, we will be fine with me there :)

That’s 6 ‘home’ games including 4 at MSG.
Holding you to that Jack!

Just like Kevin said:

If Mullin doesn’t make the tournament this year the school should fire him or Mullin should just step aside. I have only a fraction of b-ball knowledge on here than most posters but the amount of excuses people make for him on here is trivial to me. He is getting paid decent money to turn the program around. It’s a problem when you wish Jarvis or Lavin was back. I attended law school in a Big Ten area and will start rooting for my big ten team and drop this program if something doesn’t change this season. Call me a traitor but the product being sold to the fans is garbage. Every year I get conned into thinking this is the year. Without Shamorie next year this team is even in bigger trouble.
I would love to hear some names of possible replacements, that would make a great thread smh
John Wooden
Al McGuire
Red Auerbach
Red Holtzman
Clare Bee
Hank Iba
Phog Allen
Jim Valvano
And....my favorite....James Naismith

Being St. John's the President would pick Steve Masiello because he likes his beard.

Then how come there are 4 times as many Buicks sold each year than BMWs. ;)
