(POST GAME ) #16 Arizona (Chase Ctr), Sat. Dec. 21, 10p, ESPN-2, 970 WNYW

Was very critical of our PG situtation at the start of the season, but I just love the grittiness and tenacity and refusal to be intimidated of Rutherford (what a great drive for the win) and Dunn. They personify New York basketball.

Bill Walton set it up

CMA out coached Miller.

What an idiot to set up a play with 20 seconds left that would use all of it when you are down, stupidity. You set up a play to score quick so you can foul if you miss and have time for another.

Great win for CMA, who continues to show he is a good coach who does not suffer fools. It was evident with Dunn after his 2 bonehead tiurnovers when he pulled him and TV caught the visual of the lecture.

Biggest stat to me was we got 11 more shots. Stats aside, we played tough defense all night and deserved to win this one. Coach gets everyone involved and instills confidence by the confidence he shows in them. Love this team!
,,, And props to Bill Wilton who was more complimentary of the program than any other analyst I’ve ever heard!
That wouldn't have anything to do with a mutual love of Jerry Garcia, would it? ;)

Didn’t watch or listen to game - I get too worked when I have a rooting interest - however observations from
our posts here and game stats
( ”from a distance God is watching the Storm”)
1.Are we moody, bipolar or what (me too) - with statements all over the map such as
Great game
we’re going to choke and lose
What a coach MA
wrong hire
Missing bunnies
What is he doing
nice shot
Callaher killing us
Sears the best
why not play Steere more
etc
2. 3 point shooting 2-13 - not so good
3. Offensive rebounds 13-6 Johnnies - v good
4. 9 players with 10 or more minutes - Louie would have stuck to 5 -
4. thrilled with use of bench!

Thanks for the running narratives of the game :)
A W?
On the road?
After a long flight?
Without Heron?
Against a top team that was given a 81% chance of winning?

And to all a good night!

I absolutely love having a team that plays almost the entire bench depth-wise. Like I said, just wait until our talent level increases significantly over next few years. We will be bring waves of talent into the game. Love this style of play and great coaching to maximize our strengths despite have a generally poor offensive team without arguably our best player. Depth is what will carry us this year.
Maybe; but right now we are winning as a blue collar TEAM, effort, commitment to the collective and heart are talents also. You can very easily lose that vibe and chemistry with higher ranked recruits who buy into their stats and pro aspirations. Not saying that is an absolute by any means but I could not help but think that watching Texas today. I am not familiar with them but at least today, they looked nothing like Shaka Smart’s VCU teams in terms of blue collar effort.

lol guilty.. I can see how he irks people but there’s no doubt he was banging the drum for us all game and I loved it!
Arizona post game thread locked!
Reopened guess we get to stay up later.

Great excitement' dedicated players who play like a team; a confident and creative coach staff who really teach a system that works with the talent we have; and. not a single selfish player on the court,;and we seem to be getting our share of luck for the first time in years. I "watched " for the first time on radio since the Viet Nam era and was consumed by Minko and Tarik's game calling. Turner called for an intentional miss on the last free throw to eat up .02 seconds. The kid tried to make it but missed anyway. He called early for the box and one on that big time shooter. He knows the mechanics at a much higher level than what;s out there now. It's fun to see us sort of back in the discussion.

Agree and you make a good point. I actually think Anderson is recruiting similar types of kids, of which Posh and Wusu definitely are and I’m gonna guess Cole and Moore are likely to be too. Forget that now though, these kids deserve the credit and SJU is getting our identity back. Really playing the way nyc basketball fans love to watch. Great win.

So glad I got my tix a few weeks ago for NYE. Its not often you get a top 15 team coming into carnesseca. The place is going to be off the hook.

I don’t really have much to add. I was bartending and of course had the game on. Was shocked we had a nice lead throughout most of the game. But to kinda blow that lead and still hold on and win in that situation is huge. I think most of the people were cracking up because they get a kick out of me but high-fiving people who had no idea what was going on was awesome. Great win.

Lavin had some good teams. His first was was great, seeing Norms 10 seniors make the ncaa tourny for the first time, we were happy for them to taste success in their last year here. Will never forget being at MSG for Hardy's gw layup to beat #3 Pitt, but they all had experience with norm. His year year was fun also.
Mullin had a good team last year but ended on a losing streak.

This year with only LJ and Heron returning, we knew nothing about the bench guys from last year, and all the new guys coming in. Well look at what these kids have done.
11-2, beat 2 top 25 teams, one on neutral court. Who would have ever thought we'd be this good?
They're making us die hards put a smile on our faces.

This year is the most proudest I've have been as a SJU fan since probably barkley and co last year.
I can't thank CMA enough for coming here.

I have been suffering from insomnia lately where I can fall asleep but wake up for long stretches at night. Around 9:30, I knew there was no way I could stay awake for the game so I set the DVR but forgot to extend it past two hours. It was really enjoyable to watch when I woke up but as the lead started to shrink, I ran out of time which may have been for the best as I probably would have suffered unnecessary stress watching the last two minutes, Great effort and some real good execution as well as fantastic coaching.

I wanted to give special props to Sears and Rutherford who held their own against more talented players.

Wow, huge news. I was shocked to see the text from my brother stating we won. I’m glad the bench is proving me wrong and outplaying a ranked team.
