Great hire tonight when St. John’s beat Arizona. Was he a bad hire when they lost to Vermont at home and Arizona State? I’m smart enough to judge him over first few years, not first 13 games.
This guy is such an idiot. He called him a bad hire and Anderson has almost 400 wins to his record. Maybe judge his overall body of work.
Quite simply one of the dumbest things I've ever read by a "professional" sportswriter.

Yet he was the same person that said the hire was a "train wreck" and judged him before he ever coached a single game. Goodman is a joke, there's a reason why before he got ran off of ESPN they sent him to be Lavar Ball's personal chauffeur overseas. His vendetta against CMA is beyond petty.
It’s also a road win against a top 16 team. Extremely good for our NET. This win very well could push us into the post-season of some sort if we do well enough in the Big East and don’t collapse. Certainly need a healthy Heron for offense though.
Neutral site win, but a great one nonetheless. Need Heron back to help us close games.
How about nick Rutherford’s basket? Huge. Big time win.
Agreed, kind of a microcosm of this team; on a couple of the prior possessions he missed a close in shot, threw a blind pass that Mannion jumped for a breakaway but kept his head on and went hard and confidently after we went down. Defense and heart will take you a long way and this team has both in spades.

We are overachieving by a large margin. Let’s keep it up. Definitely need Heron back in that starting 5. Yes even as a neutral site which I forgot about, it will be a high quality win on our record.
Before the season started this year my schedule had an L penciled in next to this one. Without Heron playing it seemed like a certainty that we would not win.
Surprise, surprise!!
The message is:
It is a mistake to underestimate this bunch!
The biggest story to me this year is the coaching. Watching Damion Sears early on and to a lesser extent Nick Rutherford I did not think they would be contributing this season against this level of competition. They were both very good tonight and were key components to our victory. Coach Anderson gets a lot out of guys who would have never gotten floor time under our previous regime. With the Heron injury and foul trouble tonight St. John's likely loses this type of game with any of our post-Louie coaching regimes. The Big East is very good and swept all seven of their games today. However like we did against Arizona and West Virginia we will surprise some Big East teams and be competitive most nights. It was hard for me to think like this back in October.
Not usually a stat guy but two interesting things jump out, 28-7 in bench points for the good guys and a tremendous difference in the +/- between our starters and bench in favor of the bench; statistical testimony to the depth Anderson and co. have created.
a terrific, exciting win on ESPN has to add to the interest among some of our recruits. we track them and the smart ones track back...especially to assess our new coach’s performance..
It is looking good so far.

I absolutely love having a team that plays almost the entire bench depth-wise. Like I said, just wait until our talent level increases significantly over next few years. We will be bring waves of talent into the game. Love this style of play and great coaching to maximize our strengths despite have a generally poor offensive team without arguably our best player. Depth is what will carry us this year.
