Well, according to John Fanta, Georgetown (1) knows exactly who they are targeting for next head coach and have been working on it for weeks and (2) they have no interest in Pitino.

So that’s one major source of competition for Pitino off the board (if Fanta’s right).

I may be missing something (wouldn’t be the first time!) but I don’t get why Cooley would even want to consider leaving Providence? I thought he was happy there and the fans seem to like him.

This might be the ONE time this might not be all about money. Of course it IS a factor. It always is. However, deep down Pitino is a NY guy. He grew up around the city. At 70 with
the career he’s had he won’t be starving. His reputation is tarnished, right or wrong. Why not attempt one final act of redemption in a coming home scenario? What does winning at G’Town or Texas Tech prove? Maybe I’m crazy but this is ours if that’s what the school wants.

I believe that but how is that Georgetown outbid a Football school. Just quoting the fear some posters have of Texas Tech. There are other factors in live beyond counting every dollar.

Just two years as a head coach, a little bit above .500, a losing conference record albeit at a tough school to win.

No connection to the DMV.
