Pitino to get his walking papers today

He put out feelers for the job two years ago. Still owns apartment in NYC and majority of family lives in NYC and LI.
School was not interested after previous incidents.

Are you suggesting that Pitino would have considered leaving Louisville for the SJU job two years ago, but that we rejected his overtures?

Sorry, but I don't believe that for a second.

You don't believe that a coach who banged his mistress on a restaurant table wouldn't be hired by a Catholic university?

Is that sort of behavior frowned upon by the University?

Wouldn't have stopped me from hiring him, but I'm a lapsed Catholic.

Pitino is 65. He's made a ton of dough, and very quickly put his Louisville house up for sale - I guess he didn't fall in love with the area. He will be off limits for awhile and may just retire. Like some guys he may just find a school to take him on in a couple of years should he still want to coach at some level.

He loves the area, he's getting out of Dodge because the natives are restless and his life would be miserable there. As much as they loved him before, the locals would put a bulls eye on his back. He's taking his talents and his millions to some as yet unnamed location.

I was told by someone with insight into the situation a while back that while Pitino loves Louisville, his wife never did. Assuming they are even still together (I think they are), maybe she'll have some say on the next destination.

To NYC and to St. John's in 2018 for $3 million. Of course that is a possibility if Mullin has one more losing season. :p
He would hire Mike Rice as his assistant and Matt would go back to Iowa State to recruit transfers.
Rick wins a national title at his 3rd school and rises from the ashes to restore St. John's to the upper echelon of college basketball.

I don't believe at that timen Pitino would have considered trading one of the top jobs in the country for the SJU job.

Yes, I believe he would’ve taken the SJU job at the time. According to the reports, a couple of SJU boosters wanted to spend whatever it took to get him here. Plus, He’s always showed great love for the university, “ if I had to lose to anybody I’m happy it was to St.John’s”.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. If he had interest right now. Let Mullin mess up one more year and the NY media ( not necessarily the school) will start to turn on him. Best believe Pitno would have interest.

True. But its not hard to believe we would turn down one of the top coaches in country. Especially after our history w coaching hires.

From everything I've heard, Pitino played around with SJU for 15 seconds before pulling out.

All I can say is We are St. John's. . I guess Roberts. Jarvis and Lavin were better choices. I wonder how many schools would have turned down the opportunity to have Pitino coach at that time. I understand that Calipari was also interested in the job after Lou, but we also passed on him, not up to our high coaching standards, so hired Mahoney instead. Norm couldn't coach, but he was a nice guy.

Slick Rick was officially fired for just cause today.

Moronic Vitale crowing about his innocence & RP passing lie detector test lol.
