The people who have essentially elected themselves the moral compass of this board with regards to SJU fandom is a sight to behold for sure.
I learned a very long time ago that those who claim to be the most moral and  ethical, are oftentimes the ones who have the most to hide.

As someone who spent a large part of my adolescence and early adulthood living a morally bankrupt lifestyle, I am in no position to be the moral compass of anything. As someone who has made many mistakes in life, and not just mistakes, but conscious decisions to engage in illegal and criminal activities, I know how important it is to be given 2nd chances. I can't even count the number of chances that I have received.

As for hiding things, those that know me, know my story. One of the reasons I love St Johns is because I was Blessed to have supportive Professors and mentors as I was putting my life back together. St Johns is also where I learned that as an insecure 34 year old freshman, I had something to offer, life experience. To do this, I had to put myself out there and be honest about my past. The Department of Human Service and Counseling at St Johns was a very close knit group of students at that time, lead by Dr. Donna Petrie, RIP. What I learned and practiced while at StJohns, helped me have a rewarding professional career and also allowed me to attend Graduate school at NYU where I was not insecure or intimidated, since I had a very stable foundation.

The problem that I have with Pitino, is not so much what he did, but his having never accepted responsibility for his actions. With the prostitutes and strippers, he threw the Director of Basketball under the bus, claiming he had no idea what was going on. With the matter of Adidas paying the father of recruit Brian Bowen $100,000.00, Does anyone actually believe that Pitino had no knowledge of what was happening in his program?

Most of the time when I post, I share my thoughts and then do not respond anymore. This is different since Fordham and Monte decided to make personal attacks on those who disagree with them. My values and mores are mine alone, and I would never impose them on anyone. However, I do have the right to express them.

Let me make myself clear, I have absolutely no desire to see Rick Pitino as the coach of St Johns, not because of any of his transgressions, but because he is too weak as an individual to accept responsibility for them.

Good morning Panther and thank you for your excellent post referencing your personal story. Lord knows many of us share a similar story but you have the courage to come forth and say it which many don’t. However I digress.
what I want to make clear is that neither Fordham or Monte were referencing or referring to you in their recent posts on this thread. I can say that with 100% certainty.  Please rest assured that you were not the target of their posts and please keep saying what you have to say.

Panther you've shared your personal story with me many times. I was not referring to you with my comment.

Anderson. Pitino. I love them both. But the solution is that if we'd hire a real go-getter as an NIL coordinator, I could coach this team.

We are in the shadow of Manhattan. Surely our kids should be able to make more money than what podunk car dealerships are paying.

One of the best suggestions I've heard on here. Paging Beast of the East. Is this a suggestion you can bring up with those in a position to do something?

Much is already being done, and professionals have been engaged.   We have a small and underfunded athletic department, and MC wisely outsources things where we don't have expertise.   There was just one relationship signed where we are one of just 9 schools in the country engaged.    I don't pay a lot of attention to NIL stuff.    I'm pretty sure Moose knows a lot more about this stuff than I do.

I do suspect that NIL will have more benefits to athletes in small markets, where a local car dealership maybe can use their image or likeness in ads.   I am concerned though that it's just a legal way for such boosters to funnel money to kids without any real benefit to using their image.    In NYC out athletes are rather insignificant as marketing tools.   Just my opinion, and not very well formed.

I’ve learned a long time ago that people who make broad attempt-to-be-wise statements like these that are negative toward others are oftentimes the ones who have no clue or basis for what they are saying.

I voice my opinion, I don't state things as fact when they are opinion. I don't preach or judge. I don't say over and over "do you even watch the games????" Like a whiny little bitch. OTOH, there is no bigger a condescending and more arrogant  f_ _ k on this board then you. But there a number of others who come close.

Well that is a classy response …
And implying those who call for ethical behavior are secretly unethical and therefore hypocritical is a form of judging.

Once again, ENOUGH.

Let’s show each other some respect.  Please stop the nasty back and forth.  Forget who started what.  The vitriol is becoming as bad as this Covid winter.

I come here to enjoy some fraternity by reading about SJU and our historic basketball program.

I agree enough is enough! At the end of the day we are talking about a basketball season not the invasion of Normandy!

Are we just going forget that it was one Rick Pitino who made Mark Jackson into ROY and an All-Star?!?

Hire him already!

No one is doubting his coaching ability. Frankly,  it  doesn’t
matter how anyone on this Board feels about it one way or the other,  for the reasons repeatedly stated in this thread concerning off the court issues, St. John’s is not going to hire him, period.

Halftime of the Ohio St-Maryland game, they just showed highlights of the Iona-Niagara game and talked up Iona and the MAAC. Can't remember the last time a major network game showed highlights of a MAAC game.

Niagara wins…Iona probably going to final four (like we did). I’ve watched some of these games on ESPN streaming…this kid Hammond at Niagara, played for Nutsy at Cardozo, is really good…better than anyone on Iona and would play big minutes at SJ

_____

Niagara's coach is Greg Paulus from Manlius, New York !!

Greg is doing a great job at Niagara.

My advice to Greg would be to not purchase a house because he will be selling it shortly when he takes a higher mid major head coaching job.
