Phillip Nolan, C - UCONN

I believe SJU iis going to announce all the signings when they feel they are finished and that is why they have not fornally announced anything yet. Which means they feel at least 1 or 2 more are ready to come.

Did Turner fail to make it academically last year?

No, he didn't fail to make it. He was disciplined a couple of times by Miller and ended up being suspended indefinitely prior to the Pac-12 tournament. He decided to transfer about 2 weeks ago.

Right DJ. He wasn't happy with his playing time.

Has he confirmed he's not taking a year of prep

It hasn't been confirmed that he'll prep. If he is ready and able to go next season, then I see our staff picking up another commitment this weekend.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's legit 6'11", long and athletic. He's also borderline top 100 and wanted by top programs. If he doesn't have to prep grades-wise, I'd grab him. I love Chandler as a player but right now still lot of uncertainty.

Agree completely and he sounds like he would be a four year player who could only improve from season to season.

Per ESPN....

Strengths:
Phillip is a very skilled combo post player. He can actually play all 3 front court positions. He is left handed and is probably best as a power forward where he can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket and shoot the 15 footer. Nolan can score some on the low post but he prefers to hover outside the free throw line. He is a solid face up shooter with range to 15 feet and continues to improve that aspect of his game.

Weaknesses:
Nolan definitely needs to get stronger. His frame is very thin and he struggles to compete in the wars in the paint right now. At his size, in order to be a more complete player he will need to improve his strength so he can to be more of a factor in the paint. He is skilled but needs to improve his body and toughness.

Bottom Line:
Phillip Nolan is a talent. He is a mis match for most post players because he is very quick and has a solid handle for a power forward. He is a decent shooter to 15 feet which makes him an offensive weapon. As he becomes stronger and more assertive look for his stock and ranking to rise. Nolan is a solid athlete that has a great upside.

Love to bring him in as PF/C and really work on his strength and post-play this season. We have several PF's that won't be here for 4 years and right now only 1 6'7" senior center on the roster. Even if we land Chandler, I cant see PT being a problem for more than 1 season and I still think he'd get good minutes for a freshman this season.

Would be a tremendous fit for St. John's. A frontcourt of Sampson, Sanchez, God's Gift, and Nolan would be very formidable come Big East play.
