You kept your mouth closed when Norm was here "cleaning up the program," but you're so quick to complain (I didn't say, bitch this time) to what this staff is doing. Not to mention, you thought a team full of freshmen (a couple of 'em playing out of position); going six deep; and an overall, undersized team would win more games than most folks.... It tells me something about you. It also tells me that you need to get out and watch kids play.

You're probably less impressed about the class because you do not have any knowledge about the players signed. Not to mention, you're probably star-struck by the stars, per the rating system.

I am not a source in the know or anything and I wasn't alive during St John's glory years so maybe I am biased. But, I think this is a very good class! I don't know what everyone's expectations are, but if you're under the impression that St. John's will ever restock annually like NBA's minor league system (Kentucky) you're going to be disappointed year after year.

But if the goal is to to establish a team that will compete for an NCAA bid year after year, this goes a long way.

Positives:

1. Brings in a true PG (Branch)
2. Brings in another legitamate scoring option (Jakarr)
3. Brings in a zone buster (Marco)
4. Class matches Lavin's style of play (Jakarr, Felix, Wood)
5. Fills the roster
6. Staggers the graduation years of the Players (no more Noah's ark).
7. Adds some size (we all wish there was more)

Cons:
1. Recruiting class is ranked between 5 - 8th in the big east
2. No true center
3. PG depth still a concern.
4. Max Hooper is not popular with the board.

I don't know about you, but I would take a class like this every year. Also, I'd be happier if we could let people like Marco, Felix, Derrick, and Max suit up before we relegate these poor kids to the bench. Maybe one of them is Stephen Curry.

Fair point about allowing them to play before we deem them role players. I was giving the worst case scenario and it's possible that one or maybe all will be very good and get significant minutes.

Not in every case but championship teams are , for the most part, strong at every position and are deep at every position.

I'm sure that you could show me exceptions to my statement.

If you want to underwrite recruiting so that you will have the greatest t chance for success, you should have that power center who is a board banger, shot blocker , intimidater and a scorer.

When you are assembling all the parts to the puzzle, and strive for the highest percentage for success, you really want that center. If you don't have that, the top teams will be describing you as small. Small having a negative connotation.

in addition,, when you play against the top teams , they will exploit that deficiency. You will be offering them a chock full of cheap baskets.

Guys like me don't disappear. I was one of the first to express my exaltation when we learned that Jakarr was re-committing. I recall Bobre doing the same. When I and other posters expressed concerned several months ago, we were assalted by club kool aid and told to wait until Spring signing. Well, we're well into Spring signing period and we're still not looking great. I think Lavin and Co. are doing all they can and I'm not faulting them. As Lavin himself has recently conceded, our improvement is inch by inch. Unfortunately, the significant momentum we had has been lost -- hopefully temporarily. I think expectations should be tempered and we should come to grips with reality.

Lambast me if you want, but when the predictions and prognostications come out in a few months you will see that objective analysts of the game are not overly impressed with our chances to make a deep run anytime soon. Does anybody really disagree with this assessment?
