Perspective

Tough for fans, players & staff to go through a challenging & losing season, but I just assume we will lose most games & pick off one or two. Positives I hang my hat on are;

1. Sima will be a big time player here if he stays another two seasons.
2. Mussini will be a solid complementary shooter playing off the ball. God knows for years we seldom have had shooters.
3. Recruiting is going very well & we are positioned well for 17 & 18 kids.
4. LoVett has the goods to be a very good BE point guard with experience.
5. Ahmed, Ponds & Owens will have an immediate positive impact next season. Freudenberg, if signed, will add flexibility & hopefully Ellison continues to evolve as well. Not bad!

Obviously this should translate into a good next season. In a league as tough as the Big East, however, let's not get crazy thinking it will be easy to be in top tier of the league. I believe if everything falls into place, we can expect to be a highly competitive, in the middle of the pack BE team & be in post season play. In two years, dancing with potential to do damage seems realistic. Anything less to me would be a real disappointment.

Paultzman I agree with every word you wrote however I would add that I believe that Yakwe will continue to develop and will be a very good four year player.
Too bad Williams has been hurt as he has not been able to show what he can do and may drop on the depth chart as a result especially with Bashir and Owens coming on board and perhaps Richard F.
All in all the future looks very bright.

Yeah, North had a senior moment on Yakwe, who will be a very good undersized PF. I also think he will develop a consistent mid range game. Agree on Williams as well. Not sure what he brings based on the short sample.

I wish we could sign Freudenberg soon. I think it will give a further boost to the enthusiasm level.

With Sima at center and with Yakwe at the 4, we will be very solid at those two spots. Yakwe is a bit undersized, but he is an excellent leaper with a nose for the ball. Once he develops a little better touch with both hands, he will be very good.

Development of his hands is a key for this promising kid. He looks like the type of young player who will listen and learn. So does Sima.

In terms of setting proper expectations, I think we have to caution ourselves after the Xavier game.

For us to beat a good Big East team, and even a fair one, the stars will have to align.

We will have to catch someone on an off day for them, and then we will have to play really well to beat them. I likely has to be at home also. Vs. Syracuse, all of that happened, plus their coaches did a horrible job of failing to adjust. Boeheim on the bench and it's probably a different story. Before they knew it we had pulled away and had confidence we could beat them. Against Xavier, they played poorly enough to lose, but down the stretch we sputtered when we were about to gas them. We will likely see a different game from them next time we play.

Not saying it's an impossible scenario, but any good Big East team playing well will pretty much have their way with us this year. The positive thing about the Xavier game is our guys should know they can surprise anyone in this league and steal a game.

Next year, the tide will begin to turn, and hopefully we can climb to the low middle of the pack with 7-9 wins.

I'm just hoping we can beat the bottom teams of the BE this year.

Agree, With the exception of DePaul, leap frogging anyone will be difficult.

So you want us to beat Depaul

. . . at home.

First Mullin has to field just about a new team. On top of that Ellison,Williams,Balamou,Sima and Lovett are or were injured. Not that it mattered this year w Lovett. A lot to overcome. I guess if your going to have so many injuries, it might as well be on a throw away year. Yakwe is going to take his lumps, but will help him for next year. On the other hand,Sima looses valuable exp.

I shudder to think were we'd be without Christian Jones this year

I don't care about the record much this year. Frankly I'm just happy we are building a program the right way, improving and beating Syracuse was definitely a gem. Just need to add the talent, which we are adding, and we will be rolling...
