Penn State Game

It seems like many fans, posters, are becoming more vocal in evaluating the results to date of this team and Coach.. The hype of the most "talented team" has evaporated along with the belief that this year's squad was going to be markedly improved from last year because, of the additions of Jordan, Sanchez and Hooper.

Well, except for the last game unleashing of Max, who did what he's suppose to do, make 3 pt shots.. Lavin seems to have no clue how to utilize Sanchez in the box or how to run plays off him. That is very poor Coaching fundamentals.

And, Steve seems possessed with disciplining Jordan and not playing him meaningful minutes. And, forget the notion the kid hasn't earned PT.. He is the highest rated player in Lavin's tenure, coveted by most major school programs.. You should let him play until he's proven otherwise and, recognize you need him to contribute this year and beyond. Frankly, I would not be surprised if he transferred out at the end of the semester. Losing only 1/2 of next season's schedule, wherever he goes? Mismanage your only PG HOPE. Branch is a sub, at best

It's clear Steve is committed to DLO, Greenie and Sampson taking most of the shots, running the team and, basically playing schoolyard BB, anyway they choose to!

The trio, by the way, shot a combined 17 for 45 last night, many of them poorly clanked. And, how about these guys and free throws? Defense? They committed some awful fouls in OT, as did Max but, he gets a pass since he's not in there for D.

Lavin has annointed Greene as his PG and that will cost us games because he's a SG, not a PG.. Having the offense revolve around him and DLO is a formula for mediocre, at best results, far from the contending BE and NCAA appearances we were counting on this year.

Steve, as Coach, isn't cutting it and it is obvious those with BB knowledge see it on the Court. And none of these players are NBA CALIBER..

i saw a gritty, hustling, intense Jay Wright led, Villanova team beat # 2 Kansas last night and with supposedly less talent than we have and far less than Kansas.. Maybe the Norm factor is hurting the Jayhawks? He did a great job getting Self off the Court before he got his 2nd T at the end of the 1st half.

At this point, maybe this is another NIT season to hope for. And, at least 6 BE teams are better than Penn State , right now and that doesn't make the 2nd half look real promising. SYRACUSE? Are you kidding?

It's people like you that make lose hope in our fan base. You are really gonna write the season off now!? How do you know anything about the Jordan situation. Maybe Lavin said you can come back to the team but you are going to see limited minutes for a few games. You don't know anything about that situation, but he should play because he is our "highest ranked recruit"? This board is fun when things are going good, but as soon as we lose a game we favored by 1 point in, all hell breaks loose and it is hard to read.

First, Jack you are a good fan. I know that from your posts. However, I saw trouble with this Coach and players going back to last season losses to San fran, UNC-ashville,etc..
It's not 1 game, it's nearly 70 games, we see the same disorganized rabble out there.

If these kids are NBA talent, it's being cleverly hidden.. What we have is NBA hype from a Coach that isn't cutting it.

At this point it's pretty obvious we won't lose anyone to the NBA. Sanchez needs more playing time and Jordan better get more playing time or he's gone in my opinion. As I said before most smart coaches stick with their top recruit. This is the third consecutive game that Jordan looked pissed on the bench; time for Lavin to stop teaching lessons.

I agree, in regards to Jordan getting the bulk of the minutes at point guard. But you don't placate to a player because they are getting ticked.

Never allow the tail to wag the dog.

When Frazier got his fourth foul when we were down by 15, that is what sparked the comeback. It did because we started getting stops, and we dont get stops when the other team has a skilled point guard. Look at the San Fran game last year, and the game last night, if the other team has skilled guards we fall apart. Lavin needs to find a way to get this defense better. If our defense does not improve this season is going to be very frustrating. The problem is, it is hard to set up a good defense when all of your players are idiots.

Jack...making points about opposing PGs is fine...calling the players idiots is a bit across the line. No?

It's mainly due to negativity is usually louder than positivity. Negativity is similar to the shot heard around the world. It has more range. It also usually doesn't take much for it to be heard.

But I'll be glad when you have somewhere else to spam. Go over to JJ where you moonlight over there as Slyfoxx.

Bottom line free throws wins games. We gave this game away. We just can't have anymore bad losses to the resume. If we can beat Syracuse then this loss won't hurt at all

If we beat Syracuse? Have another drink! Wanna bet?

Agree MJ, not asking Lavin to kiss his a.. Let's not forget this kid was picked as the " Rookie of the year in the Big East." Probably a good time to have a fatherly talk with Jordan, can't hurt.

I still believe he'll get his chance, if he sit tight. I can understand him being ticked, if that's actually the case. But the things I'm hearing from people attending games doesn't particularly sound so swell. Hopefully, he has other things on his mind for looking irked (maybe, the situation with his mom is also playing with his bench demeanor), instead of seeming that way due to being yanked.

I'm sure someone on the staff, whether it's Lavin and/or an assistant or two, are chatting it up with him. I also wouldn't doubt, if a player or more are also doing the same with him.

We're gonna need him (whether, it's sooner or later), so I hope he can get himself together for the long haul. Like I've stated several times before.... Give him the keys and allow him to cut his teeth.

In this sport, you just never know. Crazier things have happened

I was at the game yesterday and figured I would add my two cents for what its worth.

1- First time at the Barclay Center. Coming from Long Island I thought the commute was good. Arena itself is ok. Sorry nothing special. I am always surprised when crowd is so small. I took my son and it cost about a 100 bucks. Doubleheader seemed like a pretty good value. Do not understand why more people wouldn't come St Johns or not. It was a reasonably priced event excluding food. Prices for food in the arena are obscene. Oh well can't tell other folks how to spend their money.

On to basketball.
2- Jakarr Sampson was awful. It might help if he actually looked at the basket before flipping the ball up. His foul on the 3 was a terrible play. Hopefully he plays better than that. He has all the skills but skills don't make a player. He needs lots of work.
3- Orlando Sanchez is another guy with skills. However, I am afraid he has not played enough at this level. He only has the one year which is ashamed. He might be a great D league guy but given that he is 24 Chris Weinke might be a good football comparison.
4- Our basketball IQ on the floor killed us. I am thinking the DLo fifth foul (running into the Penn State guy at almost mid court???), Sampson's numerous wild shots, Hooper's flagrant foul which basically ended the game, Obekpa constantly whining with the officials. I guess I could go on but I think you get the point.

The reason why SJU can't draw 10k fans to a game and Syracuse can sell the place out is results. .[/quote]

Well, that and the fact that Syracuse was playing 1 Big east reg season game per year, plus the Big East tournament, If Syracuse fans didn't want to travel to Syracuse, or worse, East Rutherford, then the game vs. SJU was it. (BET tickets are scarcer, allocated among all schools)
