Penn State Game

We really should lose to Penn St for one reason and that is they are a good 3 point shooting team (38% vs our 21%).
But I think the Wizard of Lavinwood has a plan and that is for us to take twice as many threes and thereby even out the scoring.
I also expect another roster change with Primo coming off the bench as well as  Phil Greene IV. Personally, I would tell Harrison not to take any shots in the first 10 minutes of each half to give SJ at least a fighting chance to keep up with the Nittany Lions 3 point show.  Push the ball inside and allow Jordan to penetrate.
I expect this to be a close and fast game where we finally take advantage of our athleticism.

We will beat Penn State by double-digits. Take that to the bank. The scrimmages are over, the games begin.
Primo has a problem of disappearing, why put him on the bench? Start him, get it to him DOWN LOW early and make sure he touches it every possession after that. I'm looking forward to the games this weekend. We are....

I like the concept, but Sanchez is not a post player. He's simply a face-up forward, and I think we need to start accepting that. What you're asking him to do is like saying Hooper needs to start driving to the rim. It doesn't match his skill set. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen Sanchez back-down a defender.

What I do think he's capable of his being a very very good pickman, because he can shoot and handle the ball. If our guards would even attempt to give him the ball when he fades away after a pick - then we'd be in business. Everyone traps our ball handler because we never bother to pass in that situation.
Orlando is ideally suited to take that midrange shot or drive to the basket. He needs to be to Jordan/Branch what Brownlee was for Hardy.

Sanchez = Brownlee

Definitely agree, but he has the softest touch down low on the team and he has a few decent post moves that I've seen We have to establish the post, plus, I like the idea of getting him off the perimeter--where he currently lives--and using his vision on the block to kick it back out or hit cutters inside.

I really wouldn't mind running the offense through him down there for stretches.

According to Lavin on the Fan today, Sanchez can play and defend 1 thru 5.

That always sounds good, but really, how many players can you think of besides Magic and Lebron that could play 1 thru 5?

Lav could sell snow in Antarctica, or at least he'd try.

St.John's wins by 3 with a final score of 69 to 66.

That being said PennState's guard Tim Frasier is a big time player.

But can he coach?

We will have a better understanding as to the answer to that question at the end of this season.

I am a bit of a PSU fan (not nearly as big of a fan as I am of SJU, don't worry) so I can maybe tell you guys some things about them.

First, as I'm sure many of you already know, Tim Fraizer is an amazing player. He can do it all, and he needs to be our top priority defensively coming into the game. That being said, guard DJ Newbill can not be overlooked at all. Scoring 18 points a game so far this year and 16 points a game all of last year. He can fill it up, and if Harrison tries to guard him, DLo will be getting burned all night.

We need to play zone Friday because I don't trust any of our guards other than maybe Rysheed and pointer to stay with Fraizer and Newbill when they drive the ball.

Another reason I think we should ditch the man to man Friday is they LOVE pick and rolls/ pick and pops. It is their favorite play, and we haven't exactly shown the ability to stop that. They play a man to man defense, and their forward play is not strong whatsoever. We "should" win the rebounding battle and and we "should" put the ball inside more than usual. If we turn this into a 3pt competition we will lose. We need to push the ball when we can and speed the game up, and when the tempo of the game is slow, we need to put the ball inside. This game should be very telling of whether Lavin can make coaching adjustments, because if he makes the correct ones we should win this game by 7-8 points. Should be a very interesting game...

Agree. But, Sanchez does have quick feet...He and Jordan have the best footwork on the team.

But, as you say our bigs rarely touch the ball unless they wander out to the 3 point line...It is no wonder they feel compelled to shoot 3s...they know they won't see it again..Sanchez only gets 4 shots per game and averages least minutes of all starters other than Jordan (impacted by benching)...

Sanchez has very heavy feet, but he does have good footwork and coordination. He's just not quick at all.

He moves his feet on defense better than anyone we have outside of Jordan...

Watching the cuse v baylor game right now and comparing both teams to SJU they are at another level. Both teams look so well coached, able to hit 3s and all of their moves are so crisp and pre meditaded. SJU looks unorganised and like the go out there and figure shit out as they go.

Syracuse is all cj fair. Ennis had a big game the last one, but I've seen both of these teams (Baylor and Cuse) look every bit as confused as SJU. Cuse has much more simplicity in their defense which doesn't waver much, which is why they are always in control at that end. Their D is going to cause big problems for us as usual, because we can't shoot. We will need to get into their zone, but Jordan I don't think is ready yet. We will need him penetrating if we want to best them. Their bigs are overrated and they have a very thin backcourt with handling issues at times.
