Height: 6-8
Weight: 200
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Nagua, DR
High School: COLEGIO NUEVA LUZ

Orlando is a complete package-type player. He has good size, can run the floor, can rebound and play defense, and is a game-changing shot-blocker. He can also step out and shoot the three. Coach Brustad said that he expects big things from this big player, who played for the Dominican Republic 21-under team. A versatile athlete on and off the court, Orlando is an avid bike rider, fisherman, and swimmer.

He averaged 15.2 ppg, 5 rpg, 3apg, and 5 bpg for the DR national team.

This is the type of player we need next season. some experience and can put the ball in the hoop. And he's an avid fisherman, what more does a team need.

If he is a freshman is he class of 2013 or like Nuri have 3 yrs of eligibility left. Also if he is related to Mark Sanchez I don't want him. :) Just kidding.

An avid bike rider. Definitely an avid bike rider.

Orlando is a good player. Not a difference maker, but would be a good role player. I'm not sure you want that from a JC. He plays at Monroe college in Bronx, so he is easy to check out.

I think more often than not I want a JC player as a role player. It's a 2 year investment for a banger or defensive specialist or something. Usually they are more ready to contribute than a HS senior. I saw Orlando last year but was honestly watching Gift and didn't pay much attention and looking back at the box Orlando didn't have a good game. He's putting up 10 and 7 this year.

A serviceable big body would be a help and allow the offense to still flow thru Mo and Lo.

I keep saying not every recruit has to be 4 star. With all the academic quistion marks of many recruits and the fact that we have 7 players with o recruits so far I would be very happy with him. At the least he would provide depth to the frontcourt.

I don't think we have to worry too much about only recruiting 4 stars..... there's so few left we're not going to have a choice.

I have no problem if the staff wants to sign Sanchez. Sounds like he'd be a nice complimentary player. We need a few of those.

Not great stats, but that team is DOMINATED by their midget backcourt. At this point, I'd just like to add any size. He can run and block shots...done.

I think Lav might be slow-playing this to not scare off Sampson, Obepka, and/or Gathers.

Sounds like a very solid prospect. He's a JC AA and we need size desperately. It's only a 2 year investment, so no downside here. He has offers from solid programs. I also don't think he'll scare off any of our other prospects. We only have 1 PF/C right now. We'd need a lot more depth to scare anybody off.

Not trying to question you but where did you see JC AA listings?

Was quoting Zags and just about everywhere else that lists him as JC AA. Gotta look it up.

I'm going to check him out on 1/30. He has a game vs. Globe. Thats the start of like 5 straight home games in New Ro.

He had 16 and 12 in the game Lavin saw him I think.

Moose,

This is in the article from zags back in 10/2011..funny how often the list changes as that post didn't even have us in there.

Orlando Sanchez, a 6-foot-8 JUCO All-American forward from Monroe (N.Y.) College, has narrowed his list and will select a school in the spring.
