I have no doubt Morris is a done deal, but I'm not sure it could happen by Monday.

Lav was at Monroe yesterday....

I have a feeling that there is more interest in us than spots Lavin is willing to dish out. E.g., shooter from the wing: Parga, Morris, Barguault. I can't see Lavin taking more than one, and I can't see any of the three not jumping at an offer.
 
Morris would be nice, Hall would be nice...but some size with talent would be priceless. Not whining - just anxious for that announcement to come.

I really think we are a 'big' away from being scary - with or without Mo - with Mo scary from day 1 next year. without mo by the time we hit mid season.

Parga is out of play. I still think we could land Morris and Bourgault, as one wouldn't or shouldn't cancel out the other.

Nevertheless, I think either Morris or Sanchez is next to commit.

Damn -- Pelle recently tweeted that he is now 7 feet barefoot. Wasn't he 6'10 when he originally committed to us?
 
Question: does St. John's have a shot at Norvel Pelle right now? I have totally discounted that possibility but would love if we landed him. We could use a TRUE center. Wow, would that change things....

I like Pelle and all but I have my doubts if he'll be qualified. In addition, I don't now if he has the drive to be at SJU playing ball. The ball is in his court. I'm sure Lavin would have Pelle back if he was qualified and showed committment to SJU. I wouldn't spend any more effort recruiting him though.
 
Scholarships are very dear and limited. I believe it is important to get good players now , but also balanace out the overall needs of the program. While I no doubt believe that Carlos Morris is an excellent player, I do not see a fit for him now at 6'6 180 pounds. We already have two payers who fit that bill---Garrett and Pointer.  
Next year is the time to bring in another small forward type --ie a Wainwright type. Must balance out the classes and the overall needs.
It is rare that anyone addresses this in the posts. Everyone would love to get everyone.
I personally would hope for Obekpa , a junior college big man ( again to balance out classes) and maybe 1 more shooter. If not a fairly highly rated player,I would like to bank the scholarsip for 2013 ( assuming we have confidence that we will have 10 , maybe 11 scolarship players eligible--- and I am assuming in my post that Mo will not be back.

 I think if Moe stays we will be scary. If not we will need 1 more quality big, we also need a back up calibre big. I also have been saying what Mark just said. We have to adress our needs.

I've only seen what has been posted on the internet, but he seems like a typical Lavin recruit. He looks like he'll have no problem playing the three at all, the question will be whether he can defend the smaller/quicker combo guards that many teams on the Big East are playing.

From what I've seen, I don't understand why he's not a top 100 player. He gets to the rim, has a good looking shot, is long and athletic, and has a good defensive reputation. I could easily have seen Morris leading South Carolina in scoring for a few seasons if he stayed committed. To pull a kid like that off the bench will break the will of some opponents.

I agree that balance in classes is great. However even if Moe stayed next year from what's been written it is unlikely that he, DLo or Jakarr stay four years and ealry entries will help with the balance as well as with the attractiveness of the program.

Fwiw, you're saying that Morris is not a fit, but he IS the shooter you pine for. Morris is really a SG/SF type. It's funny, but balance is all relative to the coaching staff's wants and needs. If anything, Lavin has proven to us that he'd rather play short than offer players that are a reach. Carlos Morris is nothing like Garrett and Pointer in that he's being recruited as a shooter/scorer. We were one of the worst shooting teams in the big east this last season.

As far as balance goes, well I think it is being optimized quite well. Balamou and Sampson are freshmen as would be Morris. Branch a soph. Sanchez would be a junior. No problems with balance. You are asking for two more bigs and a shooter. That's exactly what Lavin is aiming for with Morris, Sanchez and either Obekpa or another name or two I've heard mentioned.
