Official 2013-2014 Schedule Thread

Well that's one Conference game that we can pencil in the date now ; )

Actually 2, we know that the game at Xavier is Dec 31.

I'm not sure why but it seems a bit weird to me that we are playing a conference game while the other game is non-conference. I assume tickets for a double-header are split evenly among the teams. That is to our disadvantage as the home team in a conference matchup---especially when we are poised to sell out the Garden again. :)

How is it a disadvantage when its a season ticket holder game? If our fans buy tickets its a moot point.

Michigan State plays a non conference schedule that is really good.

Yea but I'm confused. I responded to the post about the fan turnout when the game is an SJU home game season ticket game and you responded about Mich St's schedule. That's all I'm asking.

I thought it was a thread on this year's schedule. Earlier in the thread, everyone was talking about the St John's non-conference schedule being above average. I think we should play a schedule similar to Michigan State.

Thank you for clarifying. The convo morphed into a discussion on the double header announced today.

Michigan State can handle that kind of schedule. Unfortunately we haven't proven we can yet. After a few years of sweet 16's, maybe an elite 8, and constant top 25 rankings then we would be ready. As people have said before, you can't schedule all blue bloods...we need some games that should be fairly easy W's or our record will suffer.

One doesn't have anything to do with the other.

Syracuse rarely schedules a tough schedule, and they are consistently among the nation's top 25 teams. Not to mention, generally make solid, tournament runs.

Temple always scheduled very, tough schedules when John Chaney was coaching the Owls. He only made 4 Elite 8's in 24 years. He did field several top 20-25 teams, but they wasn't on par with Michigan State with Izzo.

Don't get me wrong, the chance for us to slay giants and make headlines is always important, but you can't go overboard and schedule Kentucky, UNC, Duke, etc. We should be good this year, but those kinds of teams are still expected to have their way with us because they are the blue blood programs. We need to get Duke back in the OOC scheduling...it has turned into one of those games that can easily become a mini rivalry as we get better and have been known to play them extra tough.

Being 1st or 2nd doesn't matter to me (these are "equal" games, IMO). I just don't like starting at :30 past the hour on weekends, and it's for a stricly selfish reason. I have to take the train leaving Broadway station at 11:02 am anyway, so I'd almost rather have it at noon. At least I can get something to eat beforehand, and not have to pay the outrageous MSG prices.

That applies just to me of course. All in all, should be a great day of hoops at MSG.

We even get an extra half hour. And its not the 11am some feared. If your not a season ticket holder buy tickets and then we won't have to worry about the number of other teams fans.

is it me or does it seem like we are always the first game even when we play at home?

Keep in mind on the game time... If we were the late game we wouldn't have access to our locker room.

Why does it matter though?
As someone accurately pointed out we use Knicks locker room. Can't play the 2nd game and have them strolling in to play their game after.

I didn't think of the locker room issue. It just seems that a first game is usually the "warm up" act so to speak.

Just gives you more time for some pre game festivities!

Most of the time yes but a lot of factors come into play. Didn't we play a game this year and then Iona and someone played the 2nd.

With night DH's it can be the opposite. Better the 7:30 start than the 9:30 (which actually becomes 10:00).
