Off Season Tidbits
The looks on their faces say it all: focus, exhaustion, and there's no question who the head honcho is in the huddle.
Exactly which is very important to young men.
My 18 year old son plays on two teams, school and AAU.
The school coach is often absent for a variety of reasons and does not always run practice.
The AAU coach is fully present and fully engaged and believe me he has their complete respect and attention at all times.
Young men thrive on discipline as they are aware what a committed coach can do for them and these young men have but 1 goal and that is to play at the highest level possible.
I don't have to tell you which team is the far more successful team of the two.

Realize it's all conjecture at this point, but I have a feeling Damien Sears is going to give us two solid years and be a significant contributor up front this coming season. Kid has good size and just seems like someone who will leave it all on the court.
Just feels like we will Overachieve this coming season. Go St. John's!!!
We are extremely overdue for that. The last time we really overachieved in a clear way was 2011 under Lavin. Overachieving once every decade or so shouldn't be too much to ask. If we make a push for the NIT I'd be thrilled. 17-18 wins IMO is a success. My guess is we win 15 though since we don't have any track record for overachieving really.

Will the the Men's Basketball team play more games at Madison Square Garden this upcoming year?

Cragg response

“More than last year ... absolutely! Done deal! The @TheGarden team is the best and we are working on a great package of games along with the Big East schedule makers. Going to be fun! Great games in Carnesecca too! Need a great combo as a national program and brand.”

Cragg on facilities

“We are in a facilities master planning stage now - which looks at re-thinking Carnesecca but right now -as we pull priorities and resources you will mostly see cosmetic upgrades publicly and team-oriented areas - including new locker room - for right now. Fan survey coming soon”

I wonder if Repole's $10m check has shown up yet...

How can you not like this guy? He talks the family talk and walks the family walk. I understand this is a W’s and L’s, bottom line business but personally, so happy we finally have a professional coach and a MAN fronting the program. Just a breath of fresh air to me. And I am not basing my feelings on pictures but rather on feedback from a couple of players, albeit secondhand. I am more than ready for the potshots for being so positive so feel free to bring it on.

No potshots from me, Logen
I'm right with you
Hard working guy who has hired a great staff and is pushing all the right buttons
From a staff point of view, we're in the best shape we've been in many years

I agree. I hope Mike Anderson works out for us here. Seems like a genuinely good guy who isn’t a fake. I like his hunger to win and not be satisfied with what happened at his last stop. He seemed to be a perfect candidate for us because he just jumped in and threw his hat in the ring as soon as he could. I really do think the guy is a good coach. There’s evidence to back it up. I hope we can land the talent because I think the guy knows what to do with it.

Not looking to start a tangent, but seems like Norm but with a track record of success which is a great combo

I agree with that assessment. Iron Mike has a much better track record though. I liked Norm a lot, he was just way over his head in this gig.

Love the picture of Louie with Coach. Also agree with sentiment that this is most experienced staff we've had in recent memory in terms of four guys with lots of experience and the ability and willingness to get out and recruit.
Obviously doesn't guarantee success, but I'm optimistic we'll like what we see with this group.

All I need to know about Coach is word got to him about our huge Johnnie friend who is in the hospital that Nycredmen wrote about a couple weeks ago and CMA phoned him in the hospital which made his day Little things like this go a long way in my book

McGriff said on Twitter he was very sore, so I'll take that as a good thing. I think Anderson can do quite well here if he proves he can get the occasional 4 star kid here once he has time to get in on the ground level of these recruits.
I am hoping that with all 4 coaches recruiting that we can bring in more than the occasional 4 star recruit.
Agree. Outside of Norm Roberts, St. John's has always been able to attract 4-star recruits. I don't think attracting 4-star recruits will be an issue with this staff, either. Bringing in the "occasional" 5-star recruit will suffice. But I think attracting top 50-100 players, as I mentioned yesterday, shouldn't be a problem.
Only going to happen when we have successful winning seasons. We have the staff, now we have to show a consistent winning program. And why not?
