Spring training game 22.
Setback for deivi today.
the yankee lineup was filled with first stringers, but got hit with the ugly sticks. ten total bases. no runs.
stanton stays red hot. gardy making boone's lf decision tough.
gittens struck out swinging on what was probably an illegal spitter.
I have the 1:45am to 2am stand-up spot at the local cracker barrel!
If Frazier doesn't play 130 games/500AB, at a minimum, then Boone and Cashman should find other work.

This is exactly the reason I didn't want Gardner back.  Fans, and the press/talking heads will be pushing for him every time Frazier goes 0-12.  He's a nice security blanket as a 5th OF,  but it will be criminal if we get to November and we still don't know what Frazier can do.

+1,000

Yankees, and many Yankee fans, have an odd obsession with Gardner.  It was time to say goodbye.

It's ironic.  I think there are more 'Yankees' fans who can't stand Gardner than love him.  I am indifferent but wanted him back as a 4th/5th OF.  Call me sentimental he deserve a proper send off with fans also.  But that means he should play 1-2 days a week and definitely not in the way of Clint who I think can be a star.  Gardner is better than Tauchman who had a fluky year in 2019.

I like Gardner and I am cool with a proper send off.  I also agree (now that we brought him back) he should play 1-2 days a week.  The reality is that our outfielders (Judge, Stanton, Hicks) do not stay healthy, so the 4th/5th outfielder is going to play.  I guess I would prefer they took a chance on a young kid with potential upside, than sliding Gardner into that role.

Bit of a 40 man crunch right now.  Let's see if kids like Florial step up this year.  Then again besides him no other OF's are close to the bigs.  There is always the Martian we wait patiently for.

spring training game 26.
yankee sticks again flat.
kraken in mid season form. 3 times up. kkk.
kluber and chapman poor outings.

Gerrit Cole, Corey Kluber and Domingo Germán are set to take the mound against the Blue Jays in the Yankees’ first series of the regular season, with manager Aaron Boone announcing on Sunday that the club plans to “slow play” Jameson Taillon coming off Tommy John surgery. With that trio set to work in the April 1-4 set against Toronto, Boone plans to send Jordan Montgomery, Cole and Taillon to the hill in the April 5-7 series against the Orioles.

deivi staying loose in wilkesbarre.

spring training game 27.
yankee bats stay ice cold - 4 hits.
stanton stays hot with a getty.
loaisiga continues his fine spring.
kraken only ks in half his at bats

king baseball is back.

SP matchup: Hyun Jin Ryu (TOR) vs. Gerrit Cole (NYY) -- Cole can become the first pitcher in Yankees history to reach double-digit K’s in an opener.

some comments of talking heads on yanks vs the field

#3 team in mlb. #1 in al
#3 starters
#3 bullpen
#2 lineup
#3 pitcher - cole
95 1/2 wins - las vegas odds

kraken checking his college basketball eligibility as he wants to be a starter someplace

Official opening day lineup:

LeMahieu 2B
Judge RF
Hicks CF
Stanton DH
Torres SS
Urshela 3B
Sanchez C
Bruce 1B
Frazier LF

Hicks has over 2300 career at bats and is a 235 life time hitter. I don't care that he switch hits, he should not bat 3rd

hicks - his many base on balls is probably why he bats 3rd.
He's a player I've had issues with since day 1, but because of the reason you said, if I'm in charge, he bats first, with DJ 2, and Judge 3.

We always talk about how great a hitter DJ is with men on base.  Well, by leading him off, you're denying him that opportunity at least once per game, automatically.  Then, if Hicks reaches, you can do a lot of things with DJ, like hit and run, or straight steal.

I would bat him first or near the bottom. Third to me is ridiculous

Hicks is a switch hitter and the Yanks have very few lefty batters. They bat him third so that they will not have too many right handed batters in a row. He also gets a lot of base on balls and works the count.

But, the Blue Jays are starting a lefty today, so Hicks will be batting from the right side anyway.  Why not try it?

When did the 3 hole become a position in the batting order for a player who draws walks?

Well I'm currently reading a biography on Yogi Berra whose best years were in the 1940's and 50's so you may have a point.

Great start for Sanchez (2 run homer); hopefully that gets his confidence going early which is key.

Yankees anemic hitting from spring training carries over to opening day.  Just like years past, all or nothing hitting.  Plenty of opportunities with guys in scoring position can’t get the hit or a sacrifice fly (bases loaded, one out).
