NY YANKEES - 2021

Heard on the radio this morning that 3 different teams have been no hit twice already this year and average team batting average is .236! Remember the days (not all that long ago) when we talked about somebody being a .250 hitter disparagingly. I'm in agreement with moving back the mound a bit; something has to be done as the game is becoming unrecognizable.

GAME 43.
a no no no for kluber.
I thought that ball that became the second out of the ninth inning was going to fall in.  He was tiring a bit though, which probably made for slightly better contact, which allowed to ball to hang in the air a little longer.  If he hit that ball in the same area, and Kluber kept him off balance (like he had done to most of the hitters all night), if might have dunked in for a hit.

Cole has been everything you could expect, bad game on Monday aside.  Kluber, after a slow start, has established himself as a solid number two.  German appears to have regained the form of two years ago (and he was an 18 game winner that year), and if Severino can get strong when he comes back (and he was a 19 game winner three years ago), then this team might be better equipped to win in the postseason, then many of our most recent squads were.

Of course, the problem might be getting to the playoffs in the first place, especially if the offense continues on this pace.  I'm almost at the point where I'm rooting for the high strikeout numbers to return, since that only counts for one out.  47 double plays hit into in 43 games.  That's absurd.
Agreed on the double plays.  That's just horrific.
Do you really think this team isn't going to make the playoffs?
Sure they started 5-10.  Since then they are 19-9 and instead of 5 games under .500, they are 5 games over.   All in a month.
And they still aren't hitting on all cylinders.  Funny thing is that most established players play to the stats on their baseball cards.   If they start cold, you can expect them to have a corresponding hot streak, and if they start hot you know they will have a serious slump at some point.   This is still the most talented team in the AL and they are very likely to have a stretch this summer where they win 25 out of 30.
My only concern at this point in time is the outfield depth.  Any more injuries there and it will be problematic.

Yes, I do believe there is a chance they can miss the playoffs, mostly because I can see the AL East getting only the division champ in the field, and the four main contenders all have different strengths and weaknesses, that will keep the division close, and the overall records somewhat down all year.

I know that Cleveland does not have a great record, but the other three AL Central teams are really bad, so they will have lots of opportunities for wins down the road.  Same thing applies in the AL West, where I think the Oakland/Houston loser will get a wild card.

I still favor us to win the East, mostly because I don't think Boston's pitching will hold up (it's already starting to show some cracks, but that offense has the ability to hit other teams' good pitching, so it may not matter too much), but I also think that Toronto, and especially Tampa Bay, will be around for the long haul.

So no, we're no lock for the playoffs.

game 44.
yankee ace german was lights out. 7 innings, gave up a mere 7 total bases.
then chad and jeremy and cy chapman sealed the game.
bravo to yankees coaching. pinch hitter inserted. rbi. another pinch hitter. another rbi.
bravo to gardy - walk. single. double - now at the mendoza line.
gardy in center with 2 infielders on either side of him.
boo. boo on yankee base running. out at second, out at third.
miles and 4 months left in season. 8 teams have statistically broken out from the al pack.
5 playoff spots. a semi healthy yankee team, anchored by german will not be denied an october spot. ,

game 45.
triple this.
bottom of ninth. #99, gio, torres single. thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankees win.

Frustrating at times, but a fun game to watch. Yanks hitting is atrocious. Great pitching continues though.

10 players being thrown out at home. Leads the majors.
Hit into the most double plays in the majors.
Only listen to the game.
Would have like to seen when Andujar screwed up the flyball to Gardner. Radio call said no clear call of Gardner calling it while printed material says Gardner clearly calling for it. Gardners ball.
Didn't get to see a better angle and slo mo of the out at first on the triple play. Radio broadcasters seem to think he was safe. Larusso was going challenge and then pulled back. Nothing said about it in the recaps. Looked like he may have been safte. Impressive stretch by Voit.

Andujar's mistake on the fly ball was that, when he stopped, he cut in front of Gardner, rather then behind him, blocking his vision. Garnder may have given a verbal call.

I had no problem with Wade getting thrown out at home there.  None.  Zip. Zero. Zilch...  If he doesn't go for home there, it's an easy double play.  Of course, Voit wound up lining into a DP anyway, but I go by how I felt at the time, and I thought it was worth the risk.  Actually, I would have sent Wade on Garnder's hit, but that's a different thing entirely.

He might have beaten it at first on the triple play, but that's probably not getting overturned on replay, regardless of how it was called on the field.  It was that close.  Still, I'm surprised the White Sox didn't challenge there.  It's the ninth inning, so it would have been worth a shot, IMO.  Maybe LaRussa was trying to show sportsmanship, and respect, to the team that turned the triple play.

Yanks should be glad they brought Gardy back. He's been swinging the bat a lot better the last several games.

game 45.
chisox began series with yanks, having the best w/l percentage in al.
chisox threw 2 good starters at yanks in the first 2 games. yanks win both.
yankee starters are lights out. like 1965 blackout lights out.
yankee bats are getting hot, up and down the lineup. today they produced runs.
yanks would not have let both gardy and the tauch go.
gardy stayed and he is the outfield defense.
2 losses separates 8 teams in the al. it could/should be this way until october.
odd stats of game - sox hit into 4 dps. yanks had none.
sox had runner thrown out at home, yanks had none.

Good to see the bats get going a bit today, even without DJLM.  The starting pitching has been great.  Can Taillon continue it?

game 46.
chapman goes from cy young to,soyanara.
a walk off walk by #99. thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankees win. how sweep it
chapman picks up the win as a vulture.
what a bummer - get it -  for the chisox.
trivia- yanks are undefeated every time clint gets 3 hits and 2 sb in a game.
another great game by the yanks starting pitcher.
hard to believe how yanks last winter went from the starting pitching being their weak link to
the best starters in baseball.
another great coaching move - take out voit, put in wade, wade gets on in the ninth.
today the first place chisox hit into twice as many dp as the yanks.

All rhe moves pretty much worked out today. Except for the bullpen. But when you're hot, you find a way to win. Nice sweep!!

this loss will go down in infamy if kluber is out for an extended amount of time.

Only 'positive' was BOS and TB both losing as well.

Well Days of our Yankees lives continues

Game postponed. Double header tomorrow. Bama will love those 7 inning games tomorrrow

Kluber no throwing for 4 weeks
Deivi will start this weekend in DET
DJ back from Daddy duty
Voit hurt plus Daddy duty

Would like to see Yankees give Gittens a chance but he’s not on 40.

Yankee lore strikes again in the form of 5 O'clock Lightening! Oh wait, it was not possible because it was a 7 inning little league game. /media/kunena/emoticons/angry.png
