NJIT

Enjoyed the game, highlights;

Met Panther2, very nice guy

Thought team moved ball well with some nifty interior passing.

Jordan's hop step move will result in a lot of "and ones" this year.

John Lucas, staff & Chris deserve kudos. He is so improved in the post & rebounding.

With Chris providing a post threat, it obviously opens up perimeter opportunities. Only first game, but we have to improve tremendously in that regard.

Amar looks like he has some skills, but is slow footed & I think he won't contribute much this year. I also don't see his rebounding contribution being much. Jones was decent & should modestly contribute Imo.

Dom played fine, but continued to work on his "one too many" dribbling act. Give the ball up Dom & cut to the rim.

I didn't think of IB outcome once & look forward to enjoying these kids, especially Dee & Chris.

The good...relentless defense from the get go. I disagree with those who say the team didn't take NJIT seriously from the beginning. Five players in double figures. That's two games in a row. This is the way tough games are won.

The bad...we can't expect anything from from AA or the walkons this year.

The ugly...Lavin's decision "not to take chances" by not playing Adonis while North Carolina's ringers are all on the court. I say play him and Thomas and sue the NCAA for selective enforcement.

The ooogly...our three point shooting is the worst in America...including Division's I, II, III, Junior College and most high schools. I'm talking male and female. Stewart should be benched for taking any threes. Right, his form is great...but this isn't T-ball. Green IV...who says he'll get better this season? I thought he was a senior. Lavin...take the three out of your playbook. It'll kill us.

A little harsh there on the last part, huh? Yeah we had a bad shooting night, but that's gonna happen a lot this year and that doesn't mean you should never take those shots again. That'll just cause every team to pack in the lane and this team will never score. And I thought Myles Stewart did a good job this game. He's a walkon freshman getting some good burn in his first ever game. I'm sure he was nervous and a little jittery. Plus he's a good three point shooter and got off some good looks that just didn't fall. And PGIV was our best 3 ball shooter last year, so eliminating him from taking the 3 isn't going to make this team any better. A couple of his rimmed out so they will start falling soon enough.

As for Lavin's decision not to play ADR, if he plays him and the appeal is denied and he is ruled ineligible, the team has to vacate any wins from this year. That's a risk too big to take for a guy that will play about 5 minutes.

I agree with Newsie, we should take the 3 pt shot on a very selective basis! Yesterday we shot 12% from the 3. We shot 40% from 2pt land. Based upon these stats if my math is correct we would have had 5 more pts if all our shots were 2 pt attempts!

In my opinion "Newsie' would be a solid replacement for hardworking and shrewd Athletic Director Chris Monasch.

I think our 3 point shooting will be fine, Green had some rim in and out, so did Pointer, and Rysheed took some ill advised ones.

NJIT looked horrible, but our defense was tenacious and give them plenty of headaches. We still allow too many wide open 3's

Green is going to have to hit those 3's though. With all of the minutes he spends on the court, he certainly doesn't fill up the stat sheet at all. Same old story. That's his way of contributing.

Biggest takeaway though, we still look like an extremely athletic bunch without the core fundamentals needed to really be successful. It's been that way though. Let's see how it goes.
