NJIT

No triskaidekaphobia for CO - 13 pts, 13 boards.

Sheed with 18. At times looked brilliant driving the lane and making passes.

Nice job feeding CO down low tonight. We were at our best when driving to the hoop. ball movement was pretty good when we were under control. Balanced scoring was nice. I though Branch has a good night, and he improved as the game went on.

Couldn't throw the ball in the ocean past 15 feet. Nowhere to go but up in that capacity, and I believe we will. PG4 was on target several times, but it wouldn't go down. Also, I got the feeling that we were taking NJIT lightly from the get go.

Good game for Pointer, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2steals, and 7 for 8 at the charity line for 13 points!
That's what we need from him every night! Play to your strengths, Dom!

I really like this squad, they looked good tonight, played hard, guys were really going for boards.

I've never seen this group play with such tenacity. It was really good to see. Sheed looked in control, Pointer was crashing boards, Obekpa was looking like a lean machine.

I am the most down I've been on the program in my 15 years of being a fan as I've ever been, but I like this team, and I really hope they can succeed [strike]DESPITE[/strike] TO SPITE their coach.

He tries to be a 1 man fast break and it never works. He doesn't understand that passing the ball up court is quicker than him dribbling into traffic and passing to a teammate late. He should have 5 dunks a game as the trailor in the break.

He did the same thing when is saw him in hs. Old habits are hard I break.

Solid effort.

Good sized crowd tonight for a November game vs NJIT.

Harrison looked good when he was in, tdam looked lost without him in 2nd half.

Obekpa was terrific.

Jones was going harder after rebounds than Ive seen and made a nice jumper. He does tend to coast back on defense and there was one possession where it cost us a basket.

AA, Stewart and Balamou were nonfactors.

Branch was solid.

Sheed had an up and down game. Had some phenominal passes but missed a lot of guys who were wide open in favor of driving into traffic. Needs to work on his outside shot.

Greene had a rough game but he will hit those shots eventually so I am not worried.

Pointer was very impressive. Took mlre of a leadership role on the floor than Ive seen before. After baskets he was yelling to get back on D and was constantly talking to Lavin and giving direction.

Today I was without a telecast so has to listen to the radio broadcast brought back memories of the late 1940s early 1950s. LIstening and looking over the stats seems to indicate this group is going to have many problems, 3 point shooting, front court fouls, rebounding, and lack of a killer instinct

The team looked good. I enjoyed this one. I don't know that anything will come easy, but this should be a competitive season.
We struggled a little vs the zone and I expect we'll see more of that. But with 4 guards on the court we need to be able to pass and drive quick enough to beat the rotations.

Obekpa and Branch really impressed me tonight.
Stewart and Rysheed did not.
Jones took some strides in the right direction, but isn't there yet. It's a shame we don't have sampson back or Thomas elidgible. We are one pf away from being a complete team.

The effort was there tonight. Although the play got sloppy for a good part of the second half, everyone did their job staying home for rebounds and fighting for each loose ball. The tournament is an uphill battle, and will require a monumental amount of effort and team play.

Just got back from the game
Our team should be dubbed "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight"
We had nobody that could hit an outside jumper
We played hard and well in spurts
But it's hard to assess our team's performance because NJIT is just plain awful
Let's wait until the Minnesota & Gonzaga/Georgia games to assess the team
I was happy to see Flag Boy back but was unhappy that it was a kid in good shape
It was more fun when it was a big fat guy who would almost collapse at the end

This team would be better served by NOT shooting the 3! Many coaches out there will prove to you mathematically that shooting the 3 is more efficient thus generating more points on an average. The problem with our team is that no matter how you do the math if your shooting less than 10% from 3 pt land, you will be much better off shooting a higher percentage shot! We are losing valuable possessions every time we chuck up a 3 and come up empty! Let's go with our strengths, not our deficiencies!

I'd rather them take and miss the 3s until they go in rather than taking those senseless jumpers one foot inside the 3 point line. It's the worst shot in basketball.

That being said, I'd prefer if it was drilled into their heads to penetrate and dish. Good things happen when they do.

D'Lo looks so much more like a complete player than when all he's trying to do is score. He's a very good passer and a great rebounder for his size. All-around game will turn some scouts his way. He needs to understand that at this point.

Obekpa and Branch were our 2 best tonight, IMO. Obekpa totally intimidated this NJIT team, especially in the first half. Anytime they went underneath with the ball, in position for a layup, they tried to take stock of where he was, and it usually threw them off. 4 blocks, but he altered many more.

Pointer and Jordan were frustrating in the first half, but Pointer had a double-double, and Jordan finished with 18 points, 5 assists, and only 1 turnover. I'll take that stat line from him every night.

Outside shooting was poor, but Greene especially had a few in-and-outs, so I expect it to be somewhat better as we move along.

Bottom line, we won the game, and did so with a minimal amount of difficulty. For the first game of the season, I have no real complaints.

I'll take it.

All five of their starters were back and we won handily.

Not gonna go bonkers bc we didn't win by 50.

Let's see how the Minnesota game goes in12 days. Good early season test....

Forgot to mention, 75% from the foul line (27-36). A nice carryover from the preseason. If that percentage keeps up, then we turn some of last year's close losses into solid 6-9 pt. victories this year.

But two of their starters were out and and were two of their top 3 players. If we are going to be a guard oriented team will have to shoot better than 2-15 or whatever we were exactly. At least we played with some enthusiasm tonite.

Overall pleased by the effort. Would like to see better execution against a zone which we continue to struggle with. You need to attack the open space.

What did Rysheed do that you didnt like? Thought he played a good game. His defense up top is critical. And I really like Stewart, so what he missed the three shots he took. Two of them were great looks and hes a walk-on playing in the home opener. I love his energy on defense. But thank you desco for your point on Jones. The kid played well and deserved more than the 11 minutes he got. 2-2 4pts 2 rbs in 11 minutes. Played good defense. You cant play a cold shooting sg who gives you nothing else 25 minutes. Thats my one gripe for the game.
