NJIT Game

As bad as we finished out, what the hell were the NJIT coaches thinking the last 2 minutes. We were 11-29 on FTs. 11-29!!! You have to foul as often as possible. They waived an unecessary white flag if you ask me.

Amit 0-8 from line. I think we shot around 30 percent as a team. In terms of skill they completely outplayed us. Luckily athleticism is a major component of this game and we could rebound and block shots like savages in the 2nd half

Final: 57-49 SJ wins

Phew...that was a close one!

* 5 blocks for Obekpa
* another 20 pt game for D'Lo
* double double for Jakarr 15 pts 17 rebounds

A win is a win is a win. 2nd half; cranked up the D with Obepka clogging the middle and Sampson taking care of the boards.

This was a good lesson for a young team NOT to take anyone lightly!
Without a point guard to direct and a big front line banger along side Chris, this is an average Big East team, at best.
The good news is in two weeks this will be a different team with Branch and/or Gift/Sanchez.
When you are missing 3 older, more experienced hardworking players, you get games like this against NJIT.

Louisville got away with one (they won by 3). Illinois State had a 3-point shooter who was fouled in the air (pumped faked it; leaned in; and was bumped), but there was a no-call.

An entertaining ending, nonetheless.

Garrett should be shooting 1000 free throws tonight..that was pathetic

Going 0 for 8 from the line is grim indeed, but he sure did change the momentum of the game when he entered in the second half.

Hey as far as I am concerned this is a great win. We shot 20% from 3 and 36.7% from the line, that's right, 11 for 30 on free, unguarded shots. Yet we won the game. How? On a day when we just didn't have it on O we cranked up the D in the second half and basically stuffed an offense that was owning us in the first half. That's what good teams do. They find what they have that's working that can beat you and they use it til they win. The young guys learned today that a game can be won on D and on aggressive offensive rebounding when nothing else is working which is an important lesson for them. And I'll bet we never see another 36.7 FT% from these guys...ever. So, a W, some good learning for a young team, and on to SF. What could be better?

he sat the whole game. maybe Lavin is trying to light the fire under him as in start rebounding and playing with effort or sit and watch from courtside seats

Garrett probably should not have been playing at the end of the game, along with Sir Dom. Should be easiest shot next to layup.

Problem is they were playing great defense and rebounding. You don't want to sacrifice those by taking them out.

By the way...didn't I tell you all to relax at halftime?

Yes, but one of these games we will not be able to dig a 14 pt hole or whatever it was at half and climb right back.
