NIL’s

While NIL's are not tax deductible, you as an individual or a business entity, can give players money. For example, if your company is having a party, you can inite 5 players to mingle and talk basketball, pay them a $1,000.00 each for being there a couple of hours then write it off as a business expense.

Interesting, but wouldn't that be against NCAA rules?

Of course, but the IRS is starting to scrutimize the amounts paid to players for negligible services. What responsible coaches are doing for their players is remind them that in your example the $1000 is fully subject to income tax which for a player earning 150k in Nil may be as high as 30% or so in federal taxes and about 8% in nys taxes.

Rick is also advising his players to invest a portion of income in long term vehicles such as bonds or index funds.

We might have to have a cover charge to the Novita party Aug 30 and try and get some of the over 21 players . lol

Bringing up this here, as just a general thought of the NIL.

Watched the Johnny Manziel documentary. Quick review, as a doc it was pretty good, but they only glossed over his bipolar.

That out of the way, as we watch some of these astronomical NIL numbers (especially football), I cannot even begin to imagine how much Manziel would be making if he was playing today. But I have no doubt it would be the highest NIL in history.

Don’t worry he made a lot, it just wasn’t as public as it is now

Publicly yes. But privately he was getting really good perks from AnM

Wall St Exec: I'm wondering if there's a way we can securitize NILs and trade them?

Ivy Grad: What's an NIL?

SJU Grad: I've got a triple A BE tranche headlined with Justin Moore and Joel Soriano ready to go. You want me to call Merrill or Goldman first?
MainMain, alright, alright, alright, a little Wolf of Wall St. lingo there, I like it.

Slightly off topic but on topic.
are D2 & D3 athletes allowed to receive NIL $$?

assuming they can, it would blur the line between mid-majors & D3 schools.

even high school athletes can receive N$L money.

They can receive NIL and it really doesn’t blur the lines for many reasons. The dollars and resources in most cases is not the same. To add, you can still tell the difference between a Mid-major and a DIII school in most cases.
