Niagara

I thought the switch to a zone defense in the middle of the second half, was a good move. It really seemed to mess up Niagara's rhythm, and that turned into points for us, which allowed us to pull away.

'Cuse goes down to Michigan, 68-65. Two huge Orange TO's in final seconds. A pox on both their houses (ACC & Big 10), but you gotta love it! (But with our lack of size, I'll be surprised if we can even keep it close on Saturday.)

And Wake and Pitt lose to Minnesota and Indiana, respectively, in ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

Minnesota beat Georgia on a neutral court and then demolished Wake Forest on the road by 15 since we beat them. Hopefully they continue to do well and help our RPI and SOS.

Not sure if it was posted Jordan didn't start due to 17 turnovers the past 2 games, and Dom was late for a meeting.

Some very negative fans here. This game was never in doubt even when we were only up 46-45. They could not stay in front of our guards at all...it was a joke. We missed the front end of three 1 and 1s and two dunks. They banked a three and another jumper. They also hit some fugly threes they shouldn't have attempted and were settling for jumpers.

These are the types of games you use to get better. Stewart, Balamou, Jones, and Alibegovic all got some good burn. Coach used this game to get Branch more aggressive. Remember, Xavier just lost to two cupcakes. 5-1 with an RPI friendly OOC schedule ahead. Bring on Syracuse. Let's be positive here.

Look at Syracuse's games this year. They use these games to bury opponents. Nothing wrong having a killer instinct once in a while. I think Jimmy B knows what he is doing and it pains me to say that.

@NYPost_Brazille: Rysheed Jordan didn't start because Steve Lavin wanted to start Jamal Branch, who scored grand total of four points in last 2 games. #sjubb

....and we were playing a team projected to finish near the bottom of the MAAC. If this was Cuse, it would take a felony on Jordan's behalf to prevent him from starting- #contractextension

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin wanted to reward Jamal Branch and Myles Stewart with starts, said it wasn't about Rysheed Jordan. #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: Yet, he also said felt it would be helpful for Rysheed Jordan to see game from bench at outset. #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: IMO Rysheed Jordan was clearly benched and told to cut down on turnovers. Had just one tonight. #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin wouldn't commit to a starting lineup against Syracuse. I bet he goes back to the original five. #sjubb

Riddle me this, maestro-men:

Emile Blackman, 6'4" guard for the screamin' Purple Eagles, finished with 21 pts and 4 rebounds. Hails all the way from Dix Hills and is the nephew of some guy named Mark Jackson.

Not saying he is the next big thing, but was he ever on our recruiting radar?

He would have been on Lavin's radar if he was from Beverly Hills.

I would like to see Branch start for Greene. Greene should come off the bench.

Syracuse also plays in front of 20,000 fans every single game. CA looked DEAD tonight. This was a tough game to get up for. Every single one of our recruits mentioned MSG as a reason they came to St. John's--not a half-empty CA playing against an awful MAAC team on a Tuesday night. This was a classic trap game...right after playing #10 (and #1 RPI) Gonzaga and right before playing Syracuse on the road.

CA wasn't dead tonight. Just disinterested.

What?!!! Top-tier recruits -- or even second-tier ones, for that matter -- aren't thrilled by the prospect of playing in front of dynamic crowds in our beautiful, venerable, cutting-edge on-campus arena? I'm stunned. Stunned!

So what's new?
