NFL Season

Wow. I'm a big jets fan, but my dads huge on the Giants, and last night was absolutely brutal. Way to give away a game that was given to you. The Cowboys handed the Giants the game and the Giants kindly declined and gave it back. Awful.

Jets looked good minus the scary injuries though so I'm excited about that.

Horrible clock management by the Giants last night. Dallas also took advantage of some funky, NFL rules, per committing penalties, and having the clock stopped. The Giants declined the penalties, so the clock should once the ball is spotted.

Nevertheless, back to the poor clock management by the G-men. I would've never thrown the ball there on the 3rd and goal. It would've been another run play. Whether, it was up the gut or on the edges.... It would've been a running play. Dallas would've gotten the ball back with about 45-50 seconds remaining, instead of 1:30 or so.

Agreed. I also didn't like kicking the field goal after that play. I would have gone for it, worst case is Dallas takes over on the 1 (in which case they probably play only to get into field goal range to tie - maybe you win it in OT), or you may surprise yourself, and actually stuff it in for a 2-score lead, and the win. Surprised they are not getting more flack for that.

Agreed. the call there was to run it on third down and then again on 4th down. That pretty much would've run out the clock even if you don't get in. If you don't get in on 4th down it leaves them with about 20 seconds on the 1 yard line. Brutal loss.

Dallas still would've had 45-50 seconds, based on your scenario. Even, by running the ball on 4th down. The clock immediately stops on change of possession. Dallas could've possibly moved into FG range, and taken the game into OT.

The Giants did the right thing by kicking the FG. They did the wrong thing by not running the football on 3rd down.

I
I think under perfect conditions Fitzpatrick can lead them to a good season. And having two big and talented receivers to throw to is as close to perfect as Fitz has likely ever been in his career, although he's been so many places I've forgotten who all his receivers have been.

I hope Fitzpatrick proves me wrong, but I've seen enough of him to know that he'll eventually disappoint. I'd be shocked, if he's put those past demons behind him. We'll see.
I have no illusions that Fitzpatrick is going to take us far. Although he is a better quarterback then Sanchez is and we wound up in two AFC championships with him and almost won one. My point was that at this point in his career Eli Manning does not deserve to be paid 57 million dollars in guaranteed money. He was very good last year but if he reverts to the year before.......

Fitzpatrick being better than Sanchez is irrelevant. I could bring up lots of scenarios where one player was better than another player, and the lesser player team accomplished more. Bringing up Eli is also irrelevant.

My point is Fitzpatrick has shown he can't be trusted over the long haul. Maybe, he's exorcised those demons. Time will tell. Not sure he has been on a good enough team to know for sure yet. I will make another comparison - Vinnie Testaverde. That guy sucked before he came to the Jets and I never in a million years would have thought he would almost get us to the Su'er Bowl.

My son is a Jets fan, so I'm happy for him. But, I don't believe the Jets will sustain what they did yesterday. Cleveland is well.... Cleveland. Fitzpatrick can't be trusted for the long haul, and he's eventually gonna disappoint you.
Eli and Coughlin did screw up on last possession but I was thinking the same thing MJ D about the clock stopping on three previous running plays by Giants when Dallas declined 2 penalties on NY and NY got a penalty on Cowboys and all three times clock stopped. Guessing that in last 5 minutes just as out of bounds plays stop the clock until snap rather than ball placement-the rules change. A lot of bad luck there.

I, initially thought it was a snafu by the clock operator til it happened again. I haven't read the rule for that particular situation, but I thought the clock was suppose to start ticking again. Maybe, your explanation is similar to the actual league rules.

Very easy to settle. I think each of you post the minimum record needed to give the other guy props, and we look at the end of the season.

Also, as far as Testaverde goes, I'd feel better about Fitz if he had Parcells as his coach.

and then the time stops here when the catch that isn't a catch is explained within 12 pages of the bible, eh, rulebook...

y'all don't get a headache from the minutia of this league? :)

you can argue the Jets have been searching for a quarterback for 40 years...Fitz is not ending that curse, believe that no matter how many bad spirits may end up getting lost in his beard. And Bowles will not be able to rise above that whole "Jets" thing that is always a "Jets" thing.

jets fans are the cutest when they are optimistic. :)

As a giant fan that game was disgusting at the end but my anger was quickly replaced by elation as I had Tony Romo and Witten on 2 fantasy teams and certain losses turned into miracle wins for both teams

Nah, maher.... LOL You know you and I are like "Starsky and Hutch," but I wouldn't have been elated by winning in fantasy football. Don't get me wrong.... I play Fantasy Football, but my fandom is with my team first and foremost (Redskins). Being that a loss was to a hated-rival, in which the game was basically snatched from me would've made it worse. I'm sure you have some dough involved with your fantasy league, as well, which was another reason for your elation.

I don't get too bent out of shape about these games any longer (as, my 'Skins blew one yesterday, as well), but I probably would've been a bit irked if I was a Giants fan. Just horrible.

I'll also add the Giants defense wasn't doing anything last night outside of their turnovers. That is why I knew Dallas would score on that last possession, if the Giants couldn't come up with a turnover. Dallas was moving the ball all night, but kept killing themselves with dropped passes and turnovers.

I also told a few Cowboy friends that Dallas was gonna miss DeMarco Murray. He keeps drives alive, as he's hard to tackle and nifty in the hole. They're not gonna get the same production from Randle or McFadden. I know it was only game one, but I believe they're gonna have trouble consistently running the ball, and the game will be placed on Romo's shoulders, as they've been in the past. Once, the competition and defenses tightens, then I think Dallas may have a bit of trouble. Even more trouble, considering Dez Bryant will be out with a broken foot for 6-8 weeks.

In one league is the coveted quest for the redmen.com championship in which my team has gone from dominating the early years of the league to pretty much Norm Roberts type sucking the last few years so I was definitely elated last night to get a win

In my other league it's a big fee league so to get a good start is critical so money soothes my giant anger.

If this was the middle of the season I would have been more pissed. If I didn't have 2 fantasy games to smooth me over I probably wouldn't have slept too much

Was a horrible loss though. I was telling Marillac on Facebook that not to be overly dramatic but I think last night was the beginning of the undoing of Coughlin. That was a horrible loss. Maybe Dez being hurt 4-6 weeks helps them but this was as bad a loss as you can get

I'm eager to see if Gruden and Cowher rumors are still in vogue in 2015, or if they've been gone too long now. A Giants coaching vacancy would be a huge job opening.

The Giants shouldn't have passed on 3rd down. That said, the last 2 times Dallas had the ball they cut through the Giants defense like butter. The last pocession , not only did Romo not miss a pass, but they picked up yardage after the passes were caught. Tough way to loose a game, but you have to give credit to Dallas, even though the ending got me sick.

The Giants shouldn't have passed on 3rd down is an understatement obviously. The play there is to run on 3rd AND 4th down and at worst you have Dallas on their own one with 30 seconds left and no times out; they have to go 60 YARDS at least to try a miracle field goal at least 3 plays and time to get the field goal team on the field to try a miracle kick; just can't happen. This idea that these coaches are some kind of geniuses is so overrated and overblown; coaches lose games more than they win by overthinking and following the time honored "book." Great coaches have great players period and many teams win in spite of the coaching. IMO the strategy there is so cut and dried that anything else is just unexplicable.

If there is a coaching change, I think Cowher is the guy. For whatever reason, even if he wanted it, i don't think Gruden would be on the list. This is coming from a Jets fan so what do I know aside from disappointment. :)

I am fallling victim to Julio Jones in both my leagues. Oh well. Puts me in good waiver position the first week.

That's Gman's strategy every year :)

overall 3-1 this week. Not bad considering I was going to go 1-3 at best with 1 minute left in the giant game. Would have went 4-0 but Julio Jones beating me up in the game that I had a slight lead in.

I hate Stafford. I don't know why I drafted him in that league that I have the loss. He killed me last year too. I should have went Rivers. Sometimes I get enamored with those freaking sportsline rankings and those knuckleheads are basically us behind a computer
