Next Coach?

This is exciting!

There are a number of excellent candidates out there, all of whom are smarter basketball minds than Steve Lavin.

Nothing is ever smooth with SJU, but we're on the right track.
I'm much more enthusiastic about the program's outlook than I was a week ago before we played our NCAA game.

Can't you be excited and enthusiastic without making yet another dig at Lavin? You do realize he's gone, right? Let it go, man. Let it go.

Part of the reason to be excited is because we'll be getting a better coach.
What would be exciting about getting a new coach if I felt that Lavin was good at his job?

@JPPelzman: Multiple sources have told me Chris Mullin is very interested in the St. John's job. #sjubb

Not Good. We didn't come this far to go with guy who is going to learn on the job. Love Mullin, but he has never coached a game in his life.

Also.......No Masiello, Please!

This is a dangerous situation, ie Rangers and Messier, he wanted it, they wen in another direction, he is pissed. If he wants it we may have to go in that direction. Maybe he wants AD and we can bring in one of the Hurley's?

But, but, Redken and WASJU said he's not a "realistic" option.

Strange

I have no idea. I would be ok with Mo becuase even if we suck I won't complain becuase I like Mullin

Hit claimed Mullin was not interested. I def would think Maven would know about that. Just basing it off of that and being a SJU fan since 1982, I expect a pretty dumb hire.

You have every right to be excited, since you have been calling for Lavin to be gone for a while now. That is not my point. I think taking a shot at the outgoing coach is a cheap shot and undermines your credibility. But that is MHO and YMMV. As obviously it does.

Scary time to be a fan...Hurley hasn't recruited BE caliber talent, and there isn't enough in the area to support the team to be elite. Mullin is interesting, just brings back Doherty flashbacks at Carolina, he stuck Dean Smith in the basement. That part was funny though, but the rest was sad. If we want to win now, there is only one available coach looking for a job, and unfortunately his name is Calhoun, and we would win right away with him..I will swallow my pride for a winner..

You wouldn't complain if Mullin didn't win because you like him? Hmm. Think most fans would have a still have a smile on their faces if things didn't work out right? I don't.

We need a coach with FIRE in his gut. Maybe that's Mullin. But Danny Hurley certainly fits the bill and can also recruit the tri-state area. I don't mind that he leans toward the batshit crazy side of the fence. I'm done with the laid-back approach (and that comment applies to Norm as well.)

Excerpt from recent NY Post article:

The intense and demanding Hurley doesn’t have an off switch, which he jokes “keeps everyone on their toes.” He treats every day as important to being a winner, whether it’s a July day of skill work or the night before facing A-10 power VCU. Satisfaction isn’t part of his vocabulary.

“He’s one of the most driven people I’ve ever been around,” Rhode Island athletic director Thorr Bjorn said.

Danny Hurley "legitimately interesting" in St. John's job, source says. #sjubb

Can also be interpreted as, "Danny Hurley looking for more money from Rhode Island".

Nope

So if SJU offers Hurley over 1 million a year he will take it and turn down any counteroffers from URI? That would be nice but contrary to what almost 100% of coaches do.

Yeah, that comment kind of baffled me too. I'd give Mullin a fair chance, but if it turned oU the couldn't coach and/or recruit, I'd want a change.

He'd certainly be given a pretty long leash, face of the University and all.

Yeah if they hire Jim Calhoun that could happen, but Steve you haven't won anything now have you Mr. Masiello, and no way the program spends the money required to win NOW
