New York Mets 2025 Season

Any draft thoughts? Most fans I have seen comment were underwhelmed/confused with our strategy.

We fell 10 spots for spending and lost a pick for Soto.

Our first pick was a 2 way player but really excelled with the bat once he focused on it. His contact rate is amazing. He has a strong arm so can likely play 3rd or OF.

We took a couple of kids that need surgery for their arms this year. They seemed to go after athletes they think can improve with some focus or pitchers with weapons they can harness with the pitching lab.

I guess time will tell if our player development is any good.
From what I understand the Yankees and the Mets had the fewest available bonus pool money in the draft. If you can figure this out let ME know. 😂 Here is the detailed MLB.com explanation. The Mets plan kind of made sense to chase “kids that need surgery” because they hope to offer less and sign some others they might not have been able to sign.

The 10 spot draft hurts but that is the result of signing Juan Soto. I’d take that every year. Of course, the Mets will probably not be big FA spenders next off-season excepting what happens with Alonso.

Individual players? Plenty of guys claim to “know” My opinion? Nobody knows. Jacob deGrom was a 9th rounder. Alonso was a 2 rounder.

I think our current regime looks for these position-changers. You can find a ton of untapped potential with a lot of these guys. Lots of high riskier but high potential guys seems to be the plan.
You can also pay them under slot money and hope you hit the “lottery” AND you can reallocate the bonus $$ you were going to pay at that point in the draft. Or something like that. 🤣

I am starting to sound like nerdlinger Stearns. Remember when we use to talk about the skills of the players rather than money implications. Sigh. 😔 💰

This, also paired with ESPN's top 10 list of prospects article, is a good sign for our system + gives Stearns plenty of ammo for the deadline.

"Where they stand entering trade season: Because of a depth of quality prospects in the system, Mitch Voit isn't in the top 15 after being the Mets' first 2025 draft pick. Jacob Reimer, Jonathan Santucci and Elian Pena are among those who just missed this list that would make the top 10 for many teams."

I really like Reimer as a second-tier prospect that has a chance to develop into a really good MLB player.
Also, Benge and Ewing behind Gilbert is ridiculous.

Yeah, this is a fan site but Mike Meyer actually breaks news occasionally & knows what he's talking about. He agrees with you.

Heyman said we aren't going to trade Jett/Tong/McLean. I wonder what the player would have to be to deal Sproat.

I would be shocked if Benge isn’t on the no trade list. From what I’ve read there is a chance he is on the Mets in 2026 or at least mid season. He can hit and is already good on defense. He has a plus arm. He has average power but that might tick up as he fills out.

Reimer was a high school draft pick. He got hurt last year and it set him back. He is really playing up this season and is a solid prospect.
