New York Mets 2025 Season

The thing is Pittsburgh is 14 games under .500 with Skenes pitching Cy Young level. They are awful and their only 2 big contracts are awful now. They are screwed for a few years unless they sell off.

He’s not a big financial commitment for another 4.5 seasons. He makes peanuts the next two years and then has 3 years of arbitration.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to trade him now. They can keep him for 3 more years and still get a trove of players and draft picks.

If they are smart they will listen to any interest. The Nationals did well trading Soto, and not even the Yankees could hold onto him.

I understand that position as well as him selling tickets 16x a year, but they are a terrible team with no hope in the coming years. They have the oldest starting position players in baseball — their youngest turns 27 this year. That’s crazy for a small market team.

They rarely extend big contracts and missed on the two they did hand out. Reynolds was really good for years, but seems to have fallen off that Jason Bay over 30 cliff with a -0.5 war — and they have him signed through 2030 at 15 mill per year. Hayes is an offensive bust with a .580 OPS and they bought out his arbitration years and extended him 3 years beyond that. The Pirates can’t absorb those kinds of hits like even mid-market teams can.

There is a 5-7 player/prospect mix that almost any GM in baseball would take from the Mets if they were in that position. It would make them a better team now and especially the next few years.

They won’t win anything in the three years, so in a way keeping him just runs the risk of him getting an arm injury and losing value for trading. Jumping on it now might be the best move for the future of their franchise. But don’t get the sense they are bold enough

If I'm their GM I'm taking the biggest boatload of prospects now. Huge boatload. You can get guys who are big league ready or almost ready and a lot of them that could make your team measurably better than a guy pitching 32 times a year 16 at home and make your team a lot younger all for 1 guy who won't get your team over the hump because your team is so bad

Here’s one to break the Skenes fever dream.

The Mets top International signing Elian Peña broke an 0-28 streak to start his career in the Dominican Summer League. He got a hit and he’s now 1-29. (.034) Then again he’s 17 years old. His photo looks like he’s 12.

In other words he’s 1 for his last 1 at bats

He’s trending higher

I’m embarrassed to say how closely I was following that 0-for streak 😂

If weather permits, plan to head to Brooklyn for Manaea’s rehab start. Hoping he can stay healthy and help us in the second half of the season.

Right now the Mets are being schooled by “old” school baseball and a put the ball in play team. If it wasn’t the Mets getting beat I’d love this.

Most Mets, including Acuna, have no idea HOW to bunt. The bunt just set up a big inning for the Rays. Stat nerds everywhere have eliminated the bunt.

Senga getting hurt and Canning coming back down to earth at the same time would be rough. Hope canning’s next start he rights the ship a bit
The Mets pitching staff has obviously been tremendous but is/was it realistic think that could/would be maintained over the course of a season?
Starting pitching seemingly overachieving and the poor at bats with RISP was a pretty good formula for a coming back to earth spell. Let’s just hope, as you say with Canning, it is a small bump in the road.
