New York Mets 2025 Season

At the Somerset Patriots vs Binghamton Rumble Ponies game tonight in NJ. It was Darryl Strawberry day. Jonah Tong pitched yesterday but hopefully they will hit better then the parent club.
 
Watching the kids rake in the minors makes we wish they would bench Alonso, Lindor, Nimmo and give Clifford, Williams and Benge a few games to send a message. They can’t do any worse.

They all played well yesterday. I saw Benge early in the season at Brooklyn. I really liked Clifford’s hitting approach not biased by the two home runs he hit.
 
Sproat pitching tonight. 0 runs in 4 innings so far. He's spotting the fastball really well and throws it hard, but there just isn't enough movement for him to have a high ceiling right now. He seems very poised and physically talented, so I like him long term. When he gets promoted, I think we are looking at him just pitching to soft contact.

McLean, by comparison, is more raw but just filthy. If he's limited to his best 2-3 pitches and 1-2 innings, he could really make an impact for the Mets this season.
 
I thought the kids were being held back because of controllable years, but I guess the Aug 15 deadline is because that is the cutoff for ROY status and if anyone wins ROY you get an extra draft pick.

I expect one or both will be up after next weekend.

I watched the first five innings too. His fastball did look straight, but fast (although losing some velocity in later innings). I remember a preseason write up by someone saying he may be better off as a high end reliever/closer than starter. After yesterday, that made a lot of sense to me.

First time really starting to get 2007 vibes. Records are eerily similar. Maybe third wild card bails us out

I cannot see Mendoza being fired this year. But if they do not make the playoffs, I can see a new manager next season.

Don’t think Mendoza gets fired this year regardless. We would look a bit dysfunctional.

I do think the hitting coaches will be gone from the major club. Either contracts not renewed or reassigned to the minors. I also think our third base coach should go. Regardless of yesterday and last week, we are one of the worst teams in generating extra bases and runs.

From afar it appears fundamentals in general are also sorely lacking.

The only issue I really have with him is the lineup. It has seemed so obvious to me since we signed Soto. He refuses to protect our younger players. He tries to crowbar speed at the 9 hole instead of a young kid who could benefit from hitting in front of our biggest bats.

It's hard to knock a manager on in-game decisions.
 
At this point, Montas has nothing left. It’s malpractice to keep putting him out there. We don’t stand a chance with this guy
