He starts DSL next week. I love the strategy of going big there instead of dividing it up 4 ways and ending up with Alex Ramirez types.
BTW, I think I read recently Stearns traded for an extra mill in 2026 pool money?
A win is a win. Still not feeling great about the offense. Marky mark Vientos and Francisco Alvarez both are not looking good at the plate. Vientos keeps looking at pitches right down the middle and Alvarez is trying to pull everything again. I am at the point where we need to see more Baty and more Torrens for a bit.

I think Mendoza is doing it already.
Over the last 2 weeks Baty has more ABs than Vientos,
& the last 6 games- Alvarez & torrens split 3 each.
This is not a good hitting team right now. The best thing would be for Soto to get hot. To this point he hasn’t won many games for us and we need him to.
I agree at this point Baty and Torrens have been better. Alvarez has been a bit of a disappointment since his first season . He is still only 23 so we have to stick with him. You also can’t give up on Vientos. I think you go with who is hot between the four of them.
I would call up Mauricio when he is ready. We would be wise to try and add some power at the trade deadline.
As long as we stay in contention we have time to see who will help us the most down the stretch and that will be pitching also.

Vientos and Baty, at different points this season, have been sitting on breaking balls and were surprised by fastballs down the middle. If you guess breaking ball, you can’t catchup to the fastball. They aren’t getting enough hittable fastballs due to who hits behind them. Our pitchers do this to young hitters as well…we threw some kid 7 breaking balls in a row the other day.
That’s why I feel so strongly about protecting young players.
I understand the point and last night Mendoza did put Vientos in the 2 hole. That’s after Lindor with Soto and Alonso behind him. Vientos struck out 3 more times. It was tough watching him flail away and he looked lost. He’s struck out 48 times and only Alonso has K’d more but Pete is still producing.
Not trying to bury Vientos as we need him to get right but the results matter. Vientos is one of those guys where his facial reactions and body language tells you everything. He’s lost right now.

Can’t just throw him there for a game or two and expect results. Let him get 15-20 games there and then we will know one way or the other.
He was playing like an MVP in the playoffs. He hit .327 and projected 62 homers and 175 RBI over 162. That after a 27 homer season in just 111 games. You need to protect that kind of potential at all costs.
I still wonder where Vientos' place is on this current roster.
Baty has forced Mendoza's hand to play him every day. He's an above average fielder, which is very necessary for addressing one of the team's few weaknesses and for matching their pitching philosophy of sinkers/keeping the ball on the ground. His underlying numbers show this isn't really a fluke. His expected AVG/SLG are both less than his actual numbers! He's finally matching his high pedigree status as a prospect.
I ultimately still think something has to give between Marte and Vientos. If Marte wasn't one of Soto's best friends, I wouldn't even entertain the conversation. But we basically have three DHs on the roster, between Winker and two righties, Marte and Vientos.
