New York Mets 2025 Season

I am a Vientos fan. The Mets? Not sure they are completely sold yet . I remember them sitting him for….Daniel Voglebach. He needs to do more than just last season to get an extension. Right now he’s hitting .220. Like Devers he is below average at 3B. No hurry for an extension right now given the team control.

Surprisingly Devers is just 28 years old and Vientos is 25. No matter this fantasy is not happening I was just spitballing.

I think if he was slotted at #2 in the order he’d be an immediate 35 homer guy. You have to pick your poison there protecting either him or Alonso. There is nobody else in the Mets order after our top 4 that makes pitchers concerned enough to throw strikes to avoid.

Devers was fantastic early but he has some red flags: he’s not in good shape, he’s not good on defense and that will only get worse, he doesn’t seem to be team player, and he has a ton of wear and tear. Plus there is no value there with his huge contract.

Vientos can probably still improve at third the next few years and he has the size and frame to be a home run hitter deep into his 30’s. He’s also played a few hundred less games from age 16-25 than Devers did. There is some risk that he was a one hit wonder, though, where Devers is completely established.

Nolan McLean made his first Triple A start.

7 scoreless innings with 7K’s.

Good to hear.

He’s #1 now. Sproat can absolutely figure things out, but I’ve really soured on his ceiling this year. Hopefully McLean keeps it up because his physical potential is pretty wild. Getting tired of all our top pitching prospects stumbling at AAA.

I think the Mets are confident that McLean could pitch out of the bullpen right now if he had to in that 2024 Butto role.

Lets be patient with these pitchers and give them proper time to develop
Absolutely. McLean was given a really long run in AA with 18 starts last year and 5 this year. Figure in another 15-18 starts this year in AAA and I think we see him and maybe Sproat in the bullpen for the playoffs.

Mets prospect Jonah Tong working on a potential 7 inning NO Hitter in Binghamton the 2nd game of a doubleheader. He has 13Ks so far.
