New York Mets 2025 Season

More I think about it, Yankees fans have been essentially begging for Boone to get canned for like half a decade now

It feels like wishful thinking that Mets fans are gonna be free of Mendoza after one disappointing season lol

Granted Carlos Mendoza never hit any iconic home runs as a Met so maybe that makes things less complicated

Time will tell
Last year Met fans (including at least
one on this site who shall remain nameless) were telling me we kept the wrong guy and should have promoted Mendoza. Heck, I had a couple of fellow Yankee fans say the same thing.

Not that I am a Boone (Buffoon) fan, but wow, how quickly the sentiment on Mendoza has changed.

To summarize Mendoza for me was 2-3 weeks ago Diaz throws a lights out 9th in only 7 pitches and Mendoza doesn't put him in the 10th and we lose

That being said he was fine last year so I think he comes back but he's on my radar as needing to go if we have another underperforming year next year

That was quick. He didn’t even take his cleats off before he announced it!!
I don’t think he initially made an announcement per se. I believe he replied “yes” when asked directly at his post game presser.

What makes you think a lot of us don’t understand the ups and downs of any player over the course of the season ?

And no offense but who cares about changing your mind ? None of us agree with you

Last year you were literally complaining the entire regular season and look where our team went.

For the record to be clear in regards to Pete my complaint specifically is yesterday. He had an excellent statistical year

Leaders lead and lead by example. Yesterday post game I don’t want to hear anything about it was his right to opt out

It absolutely is his right and I don’t blame him at all for opting out

But yesterday he put himself over the team announcing opting out when our season literally just ended on the worst way possible

Leaders don’t do that. Whether they are going to be on the team or not they set an example for others by not putting themselves over the team

If he announced it next week I’d have no problem with it
Yankee fans (including me) felt the same way when ARod opted out right after losing in the playoffs in 2007. Some of us got over that because it is a business. ARod was resigned and helped get us the 2009 World Championship.

He is bitter about his contract, felt he didn’t get what he deserved. Despite that, he showed up and was second in the league in RBIs and as their best clutch hitter.

Bottom line, if he wants to come back, if they think he fits what they need and if it makes economical sense, then you try to resign him no matter how bad the optics looked when he opted out.

Sees a thread titled "New York Mets 2025 Season."

Thinks to himself: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I continue to wonder why anyone would be a Mets or Jets fan. Masochism, maybe? Being a St. John's fan is enough of that for me.

I know this would make people uneasy, but I wouldn't be opposed to our lineup/defense and rotation looking like this by July 1:
SS: Lindor
LF: Soto
C: Alvarez
CF: Cody Bellinger
DH: Vientos
1B: Nimmo
RF: Carson Benge
3B: Baty
2B: Jett Williams

Moving Soto to LF and Nimmo to 1B fixes a few problems at once: Soto has less room to cover in LF & his arm becomes more of a weapon, Nimmo preserves his legs more & his athleticism becomes a srength at 1B while his arm is no longer an issue. Bellinger is a very good athlete still and plays a good CF/great 1B. Fixes our depth in two spots. Benge and Jett are two guys that profile to be plus defenders and hit the ball really well. No reason to clog up those two spots with bad contracts.

I'd trade McNeil for anything. Time to get him out of here. Acuna will be a nice utility guy, a la Guillmore with more versatility & better speed, off the bench.

Rotation:
SP1: McLean
SP2: Manaea -- his injury really derailed his season, I think he'll come back much better
SP3: Cease -- can we get him on a one or two year deal?
SP4: Peterson
SP5: Scott
SP6: Senga

Don't care what Senga says or does this offseason, we can't rely on him. We would still have Sproat and Tong developing more in AAA. If a Skenes is available, you go 90%-in (no McLean).
Keep your hands off Bellinger!!! I’ve wanted him for years and finally got him.

That Diaz move is right out of the Boone.

Well thought through. I have no idea how/if that will work out but change needs to be attempted.

I appreciate the sentiment. Winning is the one thing in pro sports you can’t guarantee no matter how much you spend.

Of course, year after year the Wilpons issued similar mea culpa’s and we pilloried them. Then again they dropped far less dough on the failures. 🤑

Bellinger (if he opts out?) and Cease make all the sense in the world. I think Sproat pitched well enough to at least make a persuasive trade chip for Skenes — that would have to include Benge, Mauricio, someone like Acuna, and their choice of our top AA arms. I’d do it.

That lineup you listed is not good enough though. If we lose Alonso we need someone in his league…Schwarber is the only one I can think of.

I doubt Schwarber goes anywhere though. Too much chemistry on that team, a perfect fit, etc.

The offense would rely on jumps from Alvarez, Baty, and consistency from Vientos. The bet you're making is that the defense upgrades so much that the runs prevented outweigh some dingers you're missing.

My personal preference is trading Nimmo but I don't think a team would do that. Maybe the Angels or Rockies but that's about it.

He did get paid $30 million dollars for this season, not sure he should be bitter. We all knew he was opting out once he signed the contract so I really don't mind the announcement. I would like him back but wouldn't go crazy to do it.

In other words, these players are lucky they are not employees of his hedge fund.
you’re right he’s fired people for not refilling the soda fountain. He’s getting the casino 🎰, multiple apartments/work sites, the stadium fcnyc, and most likely a Convention Center that puts Javits to shame. He’s not looking for championships.

Lets face it. The Mets weren't that good this year. All of things that worked last year didn't this year. We had 4 hitters and our best starters were in AAA 6 weeks ago.

At the deadline all the "pundits" said that the Muttsies made some of the best moves. Unfortunately they all played like poop.

There is no simple answer to the issues. Senga needs to comeback correct. Maybe Holmes can give 6 innings. McLean was a revelation. Sproat is good. Tong needs another pitch and will be solid.

We can see what the off-season holds but I can't see huge moves. They are going to need to re-sign Pete and Diaz. But Stearns isn't/shouldn't raid the Farm for someone. History shows that the Mutts can't buy a championship.
