Helped the pitching that the Mets scored early and often. Such a strange team. Some days our offense is so dangerous. Then they don’t hit at all or the pitching flames out. 3 more outs and today is a good night

Well it was about a year and a half of Peterson getting out of jam after jam which felt miraculous at times. He’s always been this pitcher and it’s caught up to him. Another starter we’d be better off sending to the glue factory!

Peterson has been solid for us the last 2 years, but he isn’t a dominant ace. He should really by a 3 in our rotation. Next year we need a true stud 1 and Senga to be a 2 which would slot Peterson in 3 and then McLean and another young option in the 4/5 with a bunch of depth pieces behind them.

True studs don’t grow on trees, Senga has proven to be an injury prone diva who has been exposed being afraid to challenge hitters and as “sirvoo” pointed out Peterson appears to have used up all his “Houdini” escape magic.
Erratic pitching and very erratic offense makes for a below .500 team clinging to a possible playoff spot on the strength of a great start. I think the individual stats generated by the offense are very misleading when you watch the team play day in and day out and the collapse of both the veteran starting pitching and the bullpen speaks for itself. The dependence on the home run and the inability to do any of the little things to build runs manifests itself too often, especially late in games.
IMO, this is not remotely a team one stud pitcher away from being a consistent winner which I realize is certainly an inference I got from your post, not what you said.
This roster needs to be looked at very closely in the off-season IMO, the veterans by and large have failed to step up down the stretch and, outside of the small sample size, unproven over the long haul young pitching, none of the younger players have remotely proven they are everyday productive major leaguers.
It is nice to be playing “meaningful” September games but at least for me, this team doesn’t have me excited about the immediate future. Stearns chose to get rid of his “glue” guys, and the lack of leadership and spark in this group is painfully obvious.

Houdini is the exact way I’ve described it to friends the past 2 years. Especially last year. And while I credit him for being the only pitcher able to go 6 IP the entire year until the rookies came up (pathetic), you just knew eventually the other shoe would drop for Peterson.
