Considering the school he attended, very. Then again I suffer from "Keith Thomas Syndrome":) On the other hand, someone told me staff was confident he would be ok.

Sima, like most bigs, will need time to develop. Spot duty perhaps, but he won't get significant PT. Marillac is right about being patient with him

Why are we all of a sudden so down on Sima? Didn't someone say he was the best prospect we've had here in the past 5 years? I was the first to say slow down on that but how did we go from getting a steal to a project?

I would imagine at the very least he would see a lot of time backing up Obepka when he gets in foul trouble. I also expect him to help a ton on the boards.

Agree that Johnson and Williams will be our top new comers with Ellison third, Sima 4th. If we get Lovett, he's at top by a wide margin. I don't know what to expect from Ron but I am hopeful that he'll contribute some 3 point shooting and defense at multiple positions.

Johnson is the only one with high level D1 experience (and success) so he has to be the clear No. 1.

I liked Williams youtube clip? lol
Not as much as Lovett's who would immediately become my favorite SJU point guard since Barkley based solely on his clip

Kid is sick lol

This is the most I've seen him use his right hand. He still doesn't use it nearly enough and actually goes out of his way to increase the difficulty of his play exponentially to go to his left. That has to be addressed for him to maximize his effectiveness. My guy Charlie Moore is similar...maybe worse with his off-hand.

Good looking shooter from deep and especially from mid-range. Better watch the hook move at the next level. He would be a big-time addition.

I'd like to see an LOI from Sima first.

I believe that he signed a financial aid agreement - not binding

He didn't.
That was Williams and he was announced by SJU.

My bad

Sorry I can't help be worried when the kids high school was called what? Elevate or something?

Elev8 :(

Are you guys making this up? Besides making creative license plates and playing hoops what else do they teach?

No. His former school was actually spelled "Elev8 Academy."

I'm OK with the school name as long as Sima doesn't tweet about how Mullin will help eleveight his game. At that point we know a name change would have been in order.

College coach on St. John's six-man class raved about quality and depth. “They’re not taking any flyers on guys." What a change. #sjubb

Anyone care to write a summary of each player recruit, and where they might fit into the rotation next year (at present).

Up for no reason so ill take a stab. From tallest to shortest:

Sima- Excited about his future but don't think he will contribute in a big way in year one. He will get minutes because at 6'11 no one else brings his size, but honestly think hell be our 4th big this year.

Williams- I expect him to be one of our 3 leading scorers and rebounders. They\ tall forward who can shoot and rebound is at an extreme advantage in college. Their size allows them to get off relatively short 3 pointers without little defense, and zone defenses allow for them to cover up space and rebound effectively. Think James Southerland, Christian Watford, and Kevin Jones.
Big 6'8 and can play inside.

Mvouika- Im higher on him then most. He only played two games this past year before getting injured. In one of those two he had 11 points and he was getting shutout prior to getting injured in the next. The year before he averaged 7 pts and 3.5 rebs in 18 minutes! Thats great production. He could of went on and averaged 12 pts 5 rbs this year and we would be thinking we just got a steal. 6'6 can shoot, can handle, can rebound.

Johnson- As good as any wing we could of got in this class for just this ONE year. Big, strong, tough and can score the basketball. This was a post from a pitt fan on their board - "The kid could shoot, always played hard and was personable. There was never a lack of effort. He just was very emotional and immature. Too often he wore his heart on his sleeve." - Sound like someone we know? 6'6 can play both wing spots.

Ellison- His skill set and ability to handle the ball is what stands out to me most. Doesn't look like a dead eye shooter but definitely someone who will be able to hit an open shot. Strikes me as a smart kid. Don't think he is quite 6'6 but he has real good size and perhaps room to still grow. I said it on the other board but he reminds me of a poor mans Briscoe.

edit: Ive really got no clue on Owens. Hes a mystery to me.

Good snynopsis, Mase. Here's my take:

Sima - Not expecting much next season. I also think he'll be the fourth big, but might secure backup center before the end of the year. His rebounding #s are pretty awesome, so if he can give adequate defense and dominant rebounding, he'll play more than I think. That would be amazing.

Williams- Probably the guy I'm most looking forward to watching. Think Brownlee with slightly less explosion but a better outside shot. Shows good angles and leverage going after boards. I'm thinking 11 and 6 per game. He'll be a matchup nightmare and a floor-spacer. Looks good in low and mid post. Very good fundamentals. Big personality. He'll be the new guy making the most exciting plays...dunks, long threes, etc. Fan favorite from day one.

Johnson - Great get. Amazing really. Pitt guys are basing their assessment off his Soph play. He' a fifth-year senior now. I think he'll be a 15 and 4 guy for us. Tough, good shooter, good size. He'll be our 2nd scorer.

Mvouika - Great JUCO #s and amazing #s at a strong Huntington Prep running point. Missouri St. is a very underrated program in a tough conference. He's got a lot of moving parts but a pure release on the jumper. Seems athletic but I'd bet he's an all or nothing player because he seems to play very fast. I could see him giving us 15 one day and 2 the next. Hopefully he puts it all together.

Ellison - Four year guy. Worst case he is a 15 mpg backup for four years with some starts here and there. Best case...a more athletic DJ Kennedy point-forward. His most Big East ready skill is penetrating in the half court. I think he can do that from day one. Shot is solid now...I'd guess he'll finish between 27-30% his first year but will only get better with time.

Owens - Haven't seen enough to comment on him. More excited for the guys we'll see in November.

Forecasting minor role for Sima is appropriate. As noted by many, big guys take time to develop. Secondly, I would only include him in any predictions when there is a signed LOI.

Great article by Zach. Usually by May, I'm following curve balls and mounting Met losses, and done licking my SJU wounds. Now, like most of us, I can't wait for next season. Yea, CA is a sardine can with a paintjob, but imagine when it is rocking again, a can't-hear-the-person-next-to-you boombox, even for the lesser games. Is there much of a doubt that Mullin can be the architect of squads that could fill the Garden 1 1/2 times.

Kudos to Paul once again. Without redmen.com, the anticipation would all be solitary.

well said. , Love checking into this sight. Yesterday not only did Elllison commit, but tweets about Larrier being a real possibility. Good times.

is there a question about his eligibility?
