Guys let's be realistic, we do not look like we are better than UCONN, Creighton or Xavier and we will struggle to finish ahead of Marquette and Nova. I am somewhat disillusioned and I am the eternal optimist so what does that tell you?
That tells me that you're a Johnnies fan! ;) 😜

Not that it wasnt already out there but New Hampshire showed the defensive play book

I think the biggest dissappointment so far this year for me… is I don’t like our team.

I’m not even talking skill wise. Just the teams attitude, body language, teamwork. I don’t enjoy watching them play really. It’s a real downer.

I’d die for Posh but even he isn’t as fun to root for as he was his first two years.

The team just kinda has… bad vibes

Hard to think negatively after a win. I don't see how some of you guys stay so upset all time... It's a win, enjoy it and relax. Both my college teams won, I'm headed to the bar now to get drunk and watch the Golden State/ Boston game. All is good!
Good for you. 🙂

I like Soriano, Jones & Mathis a lot; they have all either performed to or over performed expectations imho. The problem is our backcourt which has been a huge disappointment to date; they need to get on the same page quickly and show some ability to make a shot once in a while.

this team will struggle to make the tournament
The way they look the majority of the time, making any tournament will be a challenge. There are warning signs every game. This wasn't an off shooting game as much as a team without shooters that struggles mightily when the game slows down. Too many wasted possessions. The only one that knows what he is supposed to do out there, and does it night after night, is Soriano. There are a number of players on this team that would find their rear ends stuck to the bench if they played for a different coach.

I agree. This was not a good performance, but I know we're not THIS bad. You're never quite as bad as you look when at your worst, and we were at our worst today.

That being said, Jack Williams may have a point. We may just not be a great TEAM. If you had a dispersal draft of this team, and all these guys went to different schools, we might be lamenting them as players who got away.

We do appear to be making strides on defense. We just need to be better at turning but into offense.

From what I've seen so far, the only conference teams I'm confident we are better than are Georgetown and DePaul.

Do you think Creighton is good? They beat Creighton on the road by 10, a team that St. John's blew out. Nebraska also just went into OT and lost today against #4 Purdue. I still think Johnnies can finish anywhere in the 3rd - 6th range in conference. It's pretty much UConn and everybody else right now, no other Big East team is lighting it up either. Every other team other than UConn and Xavier have had these type of showings against cupcakes.

Team had a total of only 4 personal fouls.
Usually, I'd say it's because of bad Ole defense, but we defended very well, for the most. Most of the threes New Hampshire took were rushed and/or contested.

The defensive side of the ball was not a problem, today.

I know most won't see it like this, but a 13 point win, when your missing a starter, and nobody can buy a bucket is not necessarily the worst the thing in the world. New Hampshire isn't good, but they did beat Boston College an ACC team on the road, so they are capable of upsets.

I think this is one of the situations where team is coming off a high, having a really great game to start conference play, then you go back down to play a meaningless cupcake game, it's hard to get up for a game like that, but I give credit to them on the defensive end, when the shots weren't falling they gave it their all on defense and it kept them in the game until Storr got hot and put it away.
Please stop. This has nothing to do with Mathis being out. This was an awful performance and there’s no way to sugarcoat it

SJU doesn't pass my eye test right now. I watch a lot of college hoops and we are just way too challenged offensively to win a lot of games and that is because of our guard play. That can change as we have the talent, but Posh & Curbelo need to show they can hit some shots. It's as simple as that.

Mathis is an important part of this team. He makes plays and shots when the team needs it. The play has been really inconsistent and hopefully they tighten it up. The passing needs to be crisper and looking for a quality shot instead of chucking it up. Time will tell if it comes together and they play cohesively.
