Thursday would be a very good win indeed. One game at a time

I'm not disagreeing with you NC Johnnie but I never thought I'd see the day when a St John's win over Monmouth would be considered a "very good win indeed" . Smh............

Butler with a Q1 win tonight, that should jump their NET up dramatically, I would imagine at least 30 spots.

If Butler can win their next game and play in a close game against Purdue it's possible 10 of the 11 Big East teams will all be within the NET top 135.  What that means is every road game, except Georgetown would be at least a Q2 game, that would be huge, plenty of good road win opportunities.

NET update after last night:

Villanova 5 (5)
UConn 10 (11)
Seton Hall 25 (23)
Providence 31 (34)
Xavier 33 (31)
Marquette 67 (71)
DePaul 83 (96)
Creighton 87 (90)
St. John's 113 (106)
Butler 121 (199)
Georgetown 245 (248)

Average NET ranking by conference:
#1 Big 12
#2 Big East
#3 Big Ten
#4 SEC
#5 ACC
#6 Pac 12

Excellent night for the conference!

If Georgetown can somehow win their remaining 4 non-conference games, that would help their NET a lot.  UMBC has a 153 NET and Syracuse 116 NET, TCU 111, and Howard 212 .  All of these games are at home against mediocre teams, should be winnable games for them, I think even going 3-1 in these games it would get them inside the 200's on their NET, and at least make sure heading into conference play they are a Q3 team on the road rather than Q4.

Yep it'd be huge if the bottom teams can make up ground, because they have the most room for growth and would increase the league's overall NET. Yesterday for instance Butler moved up 78 spots and DePaul moved up 13 spots. As for the teams higher in the rankings, Providence only moved up 3 spots and Nova didn't move. St. John's certainly can also move up a few dozens spots if we win these next 3 games.

All you need to know about our defiencies;

Big East Stats through 8 games

Points Allowed-last of 11
3 Point FG defense-10th of 11
Defensive Rebounds-10th of 11

Guess that says it all. Think we are delusional if we think we can get into ncaas with those stats and the way we are playing

When you consider that we have the worst SOS in the conference so far, those numbers really sting. Let's hope that the D pulls it together over the next few games and is operating on all cylinders when conference play starts.

Hope today will be the last day with a triple digits ranking. Currently we're #111, one spot ahead of Syracuse.

1. Big 12
2. Big East
3. Big Ten
4. SEC
5. ACC
6. Pac-12
7. Mountain West
8. American Athletic
9. West Coast
10. Southern

Pretty incredible that the A10 is not even top 10 this year. There are a few vocal fans who have unironically suggested over the years that we move down a level to the A10 or even the MAAC in hopes of winning it every year. Well, that's always been a ridiculous idea, but years like this one show how bad it'd be. Had we been in the A10 for example we'd only have a couple Q1 opportunities (none being at home) and our season would essentially be over already. We'd need to win the A10 Tournament in March to qualify for the Tournament... and even if we were to do that, it'd be as a mediocre seed.

Ill use Marquette as an example.  They play the following in OOC: Illinois, Mississippi, West Virginia, Kansas St, St Bonaventure, Wisconsin and UCLA.  Even if we have 2 more big east wins then them, they should still get in over us.

Shaka is brand new.  Hes not hiding behind the "A Mike Anderson team takes time to develop so we cant play anyone in OOC each year" nonsense.  Shaka Smart said, "Im brand new and I dont give f#ck.  We will play anyone, anywhere."

I think what Shaka has done this year is 100 times better then that stupid "Mike Anderson has never had a losing season" nonsense stat.

That stat for mike anderson is all smoke and mirrors and should never be mentioned again as a positive.  Its fluff.

Next year, play an OOC schedule like Marqutte did this year and if we finish the season over .500, Ill give Mike credit.

A lot of BB left to play this year to make judgment on Anderson either way.

Last season our OOC looked very weak prior to season and as it progressed teams like Colgate, etc. showed their strength and OOC rating improved. This year I’m sure preseason no one picked Monmouth as a Q2 team with only one loss. With open  season on transfers, it can change a team drastically and thus severely change preseason predictions.Especially mid majors coming out of nowhere.

Amen Duke!! I agree with you 1000%! Teams like Marquette , Seton Hall , UConn, Xavier will get in over us if they have the same conference record or even if they have a win or two less because the selection committee rewards strong scheduling. That’s how it is now. We are going to have to have 12 wins in conference plus a win or two in the Big East Tournament in order to get an invite to the Big Dance. Even a team like Iowa St. with a .500 record in conference will get in over us if we are even 11-9 in conference because they scheduled so strong OOC. The landscape and the criteria used to select teams for March Madness has changed. You have to get with the program.

i give you the last two but not points allowed. We are 12th in NCAA’s in pace so that leads to more points both sides.

All for a tougher schedule but it’s probably safe to assume Shaka didn’t put together the majority of that schedule after being hired in the off season.

TURNOVERS- 2021vs 2022

last year includes BE schedule only 12.6  vs 15.9 this year only for OOC weaker opponents. Not good! Especially Posh stats

So all those stats equate to sloppier with the ball and too lax against 3 pt FG, and not crashing boards!

Big win tonight. Not sure how much it'll help our NET since it was close, but certainly will help some. Maybe enough to crack the top 100.

We are not going much higher after today's adjustment with wins against Colgate and Pitt at home. Lets start the climb at Seton Hall when we start the Big East season.
