(NCAA-WEST/Providence) #15 Omaha, Thu., Mar. 20, 9:45p, CBS

Been a critic and not a fan, but Vince helped tonight and last game.
It can be easily argued that a 7 ft. reserve that gets little playing time with a last name you can't spell or pronounce twice in a row has hit the two biggest baskets in the 2 biggest St. Johns games of the last 25 years.

I'm willing to entertain contrary views if my take on this is incorrect.

This was the best case scenario. We got our asses handed to us in one facet of the game, we had to overcome adversity in the first half, and we got to feel the consequences of stupid early fouls.
All true. Plus there was another best case scenario. We got strong confidence boosting minutes from 5, count em all 5 at once, bench reserves in a single opening Ncaa game! Could pay huge dividends going forward.

I really want to see if the Vice show was allowed to see Rick’s halftime “encouragement”. Will be interesting. In his post game presser he clearly identified the rebounding statistics. He was basically happy overall but specifically pointed it out. He says he told the team if they rebound like that against Arkansas they will have a “long afternoon”.

The first half rebounding was rough, and the reason the game wasn’t over at halftime. Not an excuse, but an observation is that they missed Scott as there were many long rebounds and he is the best player on the team at beating everyone to those spots for those rebounds.

Need him on the floor for Arkansas.

One play typified how we play and how it affects our opponents. In the second half Streit was on the line and he was breathing hard and he had a look on his face that he knew they had been taken to the woodshed and been given a beat down.

Let's hope we see that look from our opponents a few more times.

Think we need to focus on layups or getting to foul line in 1st 2-3 minutes. . .see the ball go thru net and settle in before hoisting 3 balls
It’s not that they were “bad” looks from 3 to start… the guys were Open… it was that there was 0 ball movement the first couple possessions… weird to see.

I have 0 issue with everyone … ehh… maybe not Kadary… taking an Open 3. Would just like to see the ball movement / rotation prior

We won by 30 points last night. To call any basket one of the biggest in the last 25 years is completely insane -- even for you, my friend. We go down every game and then we kick everyone's ass the last 25 minutes. We were toying with them for 15 minutes. Kadary was dribbling behind his back in the lane.

Vince is our biggest weakness. If he can play even for 3-4 minutes a game against the opposing team's second unit, we become a very hard team to beat. He's the only player on the team that is at risk for a complete breakdown defensively at all times. Prey won't do that. Ayo won't do that. Even Lefty won't do that...he may get beat off the bounce but his awareness is top notch. We've got Prey effectively pressing guards 90 feet from the basket. I don't know why we don't let him play center.

There were so many butter finger rebound attempts.

Rick went nuts on the sideline at one point, yelling at Zuby and Co. to haul in the rebounds not tap them around.

He rides Zuby so much it's crazy. Zuby actually talked back to him on that one too 😆
It's great as a coach when you have a kind so mentally strong that you can coach them that hard.

IJDK why it is necessary to incessantly call Vince out, especially after a 30 point win where he played well (he's played better as the season has gone on).
