NCAA Tournament seeding

It’s just moronic. The committee put us as a 4 seed the other week. That’s a fact. Since then we’ve gone 3-0 including two wins over tournament teams. And Lunardi doesn’t move us an inch? Just idiotic.
Of 105 brackets on Bracketmatrix right now our average seed is 3.72 which would actually make us the 13th overall team and therefore the first 4 seed. Of the 70ish brackets on that site updated after Sunday's win it looks like it's a near 50/50 split of us being a 3 or 4. I think that's about right at the present moment

Yea Lunardi is far from the only one who has us at a 4 right now. We have to be mindful that the metrics just aren't going to be on our side up against a lot of these Big 12/SEC teams. These teams are getting multiple Q1 games weekly.

The weight being given to accruing Q1 losses needs to change. A loss is still a damn loss. If for no other reason, I want to see some of the SEC studs completely bomb their next four games just to force the voters and committee to make some hard choices.

We truly just have to keep winning. The resume metrics span from #17 by KPI (used most by committee) and #18 by NET to Torvik's wins above bubble at #9 and BPI's Strength of Record at #7.

I agree with you Matt. I think Lunardi's idiocy is based on his personal bias against St. John's because of our justified reaction and criticism of his so-called "expertise" regarding where he placed us last year in his pre-tournament bracketology projections. This moron must be thin skinned and this is his form of payback. I'm sure there is also a holdover of bad feelings by the friends and associates of last year's Selection Committee because its decision making was head scratching to say the least. Sad commentary.

in hindsight didn't Lunardi have us closer to into the tourney than the actual committee did?

I don't recall. My point is there may be a holdover reaction by both Lunardi and the committee because we had the "nerve" to criticize their judgements last year. Whether it was Lunardi or the committee who had us closer to the tournament is irrelevant. They both had us out of the tournament and it wasn't even close.

The whole tournament is so skewed toward these huge conferences who have teams with an artificially inflated SOS and Q1 games. They all play each other and the SOS is basically based on Out of conference games at the beginning of the season.

If ever the eye test was needed it is in this landscape of conferences that are called Big 10 and have 40 teams in them.

If I was the BE commissioner I would start the conference season a month earlier and work with the commissioners of the ACC and Mountain West and schedule games later in the year.

I understand getting angry at the commitee, but Lunardi's job is to get his projected bracket as correct as possible. I don't understand why any of our fans would get mad at him last year. He had us in the tournament for most of March until all the bid stealers happened the week of selection sunday. Then we got pushed out of his bracket. Which was unfortunately correct based on what happened, in fact the actual committee had us out before the bid stealing took place if i remember correctly. So Lunardi was higher on us than the committee was. If any fans attacked him for that instead of the committee itself... that is kind of like the textbook definition of shooting the messenger

The selection committee hates the Big East this year and our resume isn’t the strongest compared to the other teams at the top. So I think they will end up a 2 or 3 seed even if they win out. I’m fine with either just want to avoid being the 4 seed and the top of the bracket.

Serious question because I've never actually had to consider these things lol. But how much of a difference is there between a 2 seed and 3 seed? Asking since those are the seeds lined up to meet in the Sweet 16. I guess the 3 has a slightly harder road to Sweet 16

Florida is losing. This is what I have been talking about fellas. A few of these teams are going to lose 2 more games this year.

A 30-4 st johns team is def in play for a one seed.

Keep the faith boys!!!

You keep saying we’re in play for a one seed. We aren’t. Accept it.

Prob not auburn and duke. But we can def pass those other teams if that get multiple losses down the stretch here.

And as you saw w/ florida tonight, that is very possible.

Keep the faulith buddy. Still a long ways to go.
