NCAA corruption case poised to take down Hall of Fame coaches, top programs

It would be something if it turns out that Norm isn't so squeaky clean after all.
Wow. It also may explain at least some of Norm's success at Kansas--stellar beacon of high major college hoops as the program is--$$$$$$'s laundered in 'the cause' sure the hell can 'help' results.
Red White Club doles out no Green - (to recruits) - that was his biggest problem here.

Anyone else see the tweets by Simon and Clark? They're basically bashing the NCAA saying they're "damn near starving" and not for a tournament berth...in the literal sense. This is embarrassing to see...especially with other recruits who see these tweets. Is there not a meal plan of some sort the team is on? Could this be true? With so many of our coaches making hundreds of thousands and several million, how could any player on your team have to tweet out they are starving for food at a major basketball school?

Some players live off campus. While I am sure there is a meal plan, what do you do when you are in your apartment at 11pm and have no money. This is a real situation for too many student athletes. We do not know there family situation. I have had former players who were in college that I had to look out for because there just wasn't anyone else. The life of a college ballplayer ain't all peaches and cream.

..... which is precisely why the D! student athletes in revenue sports should receive a stipend.

These are very big and hungry kids.;)
Back in the day I lived off campus my final year of college because I worked a midnight shift near the university. I lived on 25 cent White Castle hamburgers after 10 pm. Not sure what cost now but our big kids likely would need around 20 to satisfy their midnight munchies.

The cost of shitting your brains out after a regular burger is priceless

Thanks Panther ..

Stinks that they don't get stipend over summer.

Would hope at a minimum kids could stock up their backpacks with Muscle Milk shakes, protein bars and/or fruits that might be available at Taeffner after workouts and practices.

I get what you guys are saying, but I guess my point is that you won't hear this stuff coming from basketball players at huge football schools. It's embarrassing. Even if there is no meal plan, wouldn't you figure there's some kind of point person they assign student athletes to assist them with this stuff? Imagine being an opposing coach recruiting the same player as us and he showed him those tweets of our players starving. Something just seems so off with this.

When I was at Marist, I remember seeing the basketball team come into the cafeteria since they were on a meal plan even though they lived off campus. You would get money on your ID card only to be used for food. Why can't we do that?

While athletes in marquee sports are often big men on campus, I feel for (all kids, not just athletes) who come from impoverished backgrounds who may gave difficulty assimilating into student population when you have no money to go out for a bite with friends, or into the city, or even dress as well as student counterparts. The Ncaa takes in billions yet making sure athletes have a few bucks of spending money is seen as an egregious adulteration of "NCAA standards"?

Pure horsecrap. With the unspoken dangling of pro sport riches at the end of the rainbow, we all buy into the idea of the free ride of college education being enough.

Thanks, panther. As usual, your posts are enlightening

Beastie, I had moved past this thread when it came back to me. You can get a whole lot of good food and good food habits in to folks with a summer course or two on nutrition. Kills two birds with one stone in terms of credits and eating your take home assignments. One of my fellow students at STJ was a home economics professor at C.W. Post and I later hired her to train staff at Creedmoor. Sharing a meal is so fundamental a human ritual that it eases a lot of situations.

Tweets by Marvin Clark, Justin Simon and Bryan Trimble. Shamorie retweeted as well. NCAA legalized unlimited meals and snacks post-Shabazz Napier's famous comments a few years ago. This is completely on St Johns. School doesn't appear to open up dining halls for dinnertime during the summer but the program can still do a "training table" which would provide a meal and unlimited snacks for athletes.

And the title?
Anything misleading about the title? One of the players tweeted tweeted hes going starving and others are backing him up on it. Seems like a worthy topic to me if the unpaid student athletes arent being fed. Where are the #VincentianValues??

You make it sound like they're in lock down.
3 of them were hungry at bedtime.
It's already in another thread.

Geech, never thought I’d say it, but St. John’s should catch up to the NCAA on food for Div 1 athletes. Food and snacks should always be available for these guys. This must be addressed ASAP.
