N.I.T.

Still don't get why in the world they chose Texas to play this tournament. Totally get why we didn't want to play there.

I thinks AD Cragg and Coach Anderson did the right thing by opting out. Selfishly I would love to see them play but all the teams went through so much. As an '85 grad and long time season ticket holder we are in good hands with both guys leading the way. The transfer portal moves will be insane and we will have a roller coaster off season with all the rumors.
I want to thank all on the board. I don't post often but I enjoy following all of your comments. Thanks!

I would have them not play than have them play with no effort and lay an egg like the Robert Morris game a few years back.

I have no problem with the decision not to be considered for the NIT . The lives of these young men has been totally disrupted for the better part of  this school year in ways that most of cannot imagine .Our daily lives pale in comparison to what these young men have experienced . Socially they have been hermits for this school year ,  they live in fear of the Covid virus and the impact that it could have on their teammates , coaches  and staff . The decision to put the NIT in a bubble was bad enough and then the Governor of Texas made the assinine decision regarding the wearing of masks  and this could have made all their precautions moot . There is noone who is a bigger fan of the Johnnies but this was the best decision for all involved .I really feel that as fans we should find some way of showing our appreciation for all the people, players thru coaches and staff , involved in keeping the program alive during this past season .

Our Guv'nor here in Texas made a decision a few weeks back that seems premature.  Not sure what his rationale was, could be a deflection from the power outage debacle.   I was out & about yesterday and almost everyone was wearing a mask and businesses are still mandating distancing.  I would have liked to see us play in the NIT but understand why we would not participate. It's a "meh" tournament and with COVID, caution takes priority.

In Dallas, I would say over 90% of the people I've seen are still wearing masks. Majority of businesses in Dallas are mandating masks and social distancing as well. I'm disappointed the season ends so abruptly, but understand the concerns. Good to see other programs follow suit by pulling out as well.

Plus the players and coaches have been on lockdown since August. Let the kids be students for a few months. A lot more to their lives then just basketball

I dont know. I live in the north Texas burbs and regularaly go past one of the venues and no ones wearing masks. legit NO ONE. Maybe in the city they are but I was in Higiland Park yestersay and most people were NOT into masks. Less wear one than those who do and I talk to everyone about it and most are very ready to get rid of the masks. To be fair many have been that way for a few months but esp[ecially after the most recent data have come out. None of the businesses "requiring" masks are enforcing it - at least not the ones I've been in ( because you effectively can't).

Maybe I'm in the minority here but Im very disappointed. Seems like a cop out since they clearly would have played in the dance if they were selected. Disappointed for the kids.

Just going by with what I've seen.

Not hating just going by what I see as well. To be fair though, nothing outside here has cared about masks to begin with. Now that bars are 100% capacity many servers arent even wearing masks if not required. florida has been this way for months. The idea an AD in NYC makes this decision after many conferenes safely played multiple sports during the pandemic (including their own, and their own conference season allowing them to play almost a full slate of games in NYC nonetheless) is disappointing. I will get over that I cant see them in person but I cant say the same for the kids. if the kids voted not to then I'll take it for what it's worth. Put politics aside and think reasonably though.

my florida eyes have different results.
talking about SW florida.
most people are wearing masks in retail buildings.
nearly all servers are wearing masks.

As much as I wanted to watch the team continue playing, I beleieve the correct decision was made.  I also find it interesting that the 3 BE teams that could have been considered ALL declined to be.  I have friends in Dallas area and San Antonio and they collectively think their governor is batspit crazy and putting lives at risk.  We cancelled our trip to Texas Tech earlier so this is consistent.  If I were a parent of one of our student athletes, I wouldbe happy with this decision as the risk is not necessary and the future negative physical damage caused by Covid has been evidenced as college athletes have suffered post covid cellular heart damage and/or heart inflamtion, aka, myocarditis.  Some examples include Keyontae Johnson, a possible draft pick from Florida Gators. collapsed during a game and Demi Washington from Vandy's  women's BB team, whose story was in the NYT.  Glad we put players first.

I would say this is. Far more logically answer than the BS about Covid in Texas .  The NIT  should hsve postponedThis year anyway but , it's a NCAA   decision.  Those pointing the finger at Texas should consider this , is Indianapolis any safer than Texas or NY , for that matter . The other thing and hasn't been said is that a number of these NIT teams hsve Seniors or 5 th year players and those kids might hsve said , No Thanks .  On our own team , Dunn is already in Puerto Rico on vacation and why not ?  He's finished his classes , graduated and off he goes . Same with Toro . It would be hard to field a team for the NIT with kids in these situations . I blame the NCAA more than the schools .
