If this news is true and sju's declines an invitation to the NIT it reeks of arrogance I have not seen in a very long time. It reminds me of Bobby Cremmins arrogant decision in 1995 of not having his Georgia Tech team go to the NIT.You deny devoloping your younger players and building for next year. Sorry the COVID excuse is a little lame after the school did a great job all year of taking the right precautions. Just my take on it.
I don't see it as arrogrant at all. COVID is not an excuse, especially now in Texas. You're right, the school did a great job all year of taking the right precuations. Why in God's name would they now want to put all of that at risk by going to a state where all restrictions have been lifted? I would love to have seen post season play by our guys, but not at the risk of their health. Disappointing, but if true, the right decision.

Agree 100% Tony. After completing a regular season where all precautions were taken seriously, why would you want to jeopardize the health of coaches, players, and support staff by going to Texas where there ore no longer mask mandates and everything is open. You have to navigate through airports, stay in hotels, eat in restaurants, and play in arenas, where there is no longer any protocal regarding covid.

As a parent, I would not feel comfortable with my child sspending time in Texas. The Mayor of Austin is being sued by the Texas Attorney General because he is still mandating the wearing of masks in his City.

Refusing to go to Texas is not arrogance, just common sense.

I have no issue if they decline but the Womens Tourney is in Texas and no one seems to be begging out.  Also the NCAA protocols will require all those things and many Texas businesses are requiring masks even without a state mandate.  In other words I don't think Texas is the issue here.

Ugh.

If this is strictly about COVID then I can understand it. If it's about not wanting to play in a lesser tournament then that's ridiculous.

Not sure if this is about Texas , Covid or not wanting to be in the NIT . It could be that we just don't have enough players at this time to compete. For example Dunn arrived in P R this morning , hence no more bubble .

Fordham great point regarding the women's NCAA in Texas.

If the women's team was that good this year would the school deny them the chance to play for a championship? deny players and coaches dreams ?Because Texas is an open state?

I doubt it big time ....

I thought the NIT was a sure thing if we got a bid . That seems to be off the table now . And , doesn't the NCAA frown on Teams refusing the bid ?  Since they own the NIT now . There are all sorts of things swirling around the Team right now , with the Moore situation and we can only speculate what the truth is right now . Better to wait until facts are forthcoming from the School . This will be a tumultuous off season due to the relaxed rules on Transferring .

Look we may want them to play for selfish reasons. But these kids have been asked to do a lot. Daily testing,  no socializing outside of the team.  Ask them to do that again now away from home in anything but the Big Dance whether that is California or Illinois or Texas maybe a bit selfish.

I have relatives living in Texas, including a two year old granddaughter and a grandson due any day now. And yes, we are very nervous about them living there now, especially in regards to the newborn on the way. They tell me it has caused issues especially with those businesses who still require mask wearing.  We won't go visit until we both get both doses of the vacinne. And the bigger issue is thta the vacinne rollout in Texas is lagging. According to the CDC, the state ranks 48th in percentage of vacinnated per 100,000 capita. and only 7% of the total population has been fully vacinnated. That flies in the face of when everything should return to normal. So yes, Texas is the issue.

And not wanting to further derail this thread, that's all I'm going to say about this issue.

One of these days the NCAA will make a decision that doesn't turn out to totally ludicrous. Playing the men and women's NIT tournaments in the state of Texas just continues their asinine decisions.

So your saying all those Women's teams are taking unnecessary risks?  Are there people who are scared in Texas? Yes. That doesn't prove anything. I know people who have refused to leave their house in New Jersey and other lockdown states, so does that mean if the bubble was moved their it would be a problem as well. The NBA had their bubble Florida which has been open since last Summer, did they take unnecessary risks?

If the reason is because of Texas --Then why did we play in MSG the worst state of all -- If invited they should play ---These are strong atheletes who really have not a great risk --They will now go back home and be at a greater risk not being supervised

I wonder if schools being considered must or should notify the NIT committee beforehand so they know who to select. If that's the case we would never know if I school would have otherwise been one of the 16.

A little disappointed about this, thought NIT could really help this young team.  Oh well, on to the transfer market rumors!

Awful news this is an arrogant move and wrong for the development of the program. So we didn't make the NCAAs tough ..... you still make the most out of it and go Down to Texas and try to win the goddamn  NIT in 1989 and 2003 Sju made it happen.NIT is a big part of our history....this sucks big time ...

Thank you MJD for clearing that up. While I am sure we would all like to see the team keep playing the health of the players, staff, managers, trainers is just too important to risk an outbreak.
thank you men's Bball for the very enjoyable season we had and hope everyone works very hard over the summer to be the best they can be next season where we have a good chance to dance.

Mike Anderson is our coach. If it wasn’t covid related we’d be playing.

Point blank. Don’t get on the team because they are doing the right thing. And, this is coming from a guy who wants to see them play more games.

Arrogant?
Are you really going to suggest that our AD and Coach decided that the NIT was beaneath them?  In the midst of a world wide pandemic?
List of likely reasons we aren't going to the NIT

#1 - Covid
#2 - Exaustion from dealing with Covid
#3 - Saving money in the midst of a Pandemic
