March Madness is my favorrite sporting event of the year and I'll watch as many games as I can. Having said that, would love to see us in NIT and no question I'll watch us over any NCAA game!

Dear NCJ
I forget the year but we won the NIT when Jayson Williams was on the team. But what a great rebounding defense player until his crisis and tragedy.

A few weeks ago I wondered if we could beat Providence and/or Seton Hall. Well we wind up beating both of them and finishing a pretty good damn good year.
We are headed in the right direction! I could care less about Covid I could care less about Yukon let's go St. John's !

What are our chances of making the NIT at this point? Only 16 teams I believe so will be tougher.
Really good chance.  St. John's will either be a 2 or 3 seed in the NIT.  Also, some teams are going to decline invites, Seton Hall who would be either a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT has already said they would decline an invite, it's a senior laden team losing most of their best players to graduation or draft, playing in the NIT is pointless for them, there will be other teams in the same situation.

This is a great opportunity for St. John's because our best players are underclassmen with very little tournament experience, NIT has helped other teams in the past, Texas (the last team to win NIT) just finished this season ranked #13. 4 of their top 5 guys were on that NIT championship team.

Another reason we will play if invited--Coach Anderson as a Tulsa player won an NIT and coached in NIT while at UAB and Arkansas.  Besides it gives us a chance to be a team that puts away the basketballs after a "win".  I hope they get to play in the NIT as I want to watch these guys play more games.

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere. NIT selection show is on ESPNU Sunday night at 8:30 (almost right after NCAA selection show).

Pretty sure Maryland and probably Mich St are getting NCAA bids.

Interesting Kevin Willard said after loss last night that he is leaning towards declining an NIT bid.

I wonder if Anderson spoke too soon and Cragg had other thoughts, or if Anderson reconsidered when the postgame emotions settled down a bit.

Receiving an offer and not going would be disappointing kids could use the experience and it will be a competitve tournament.

Perhaps administration has COVID concerns regarding Texas recent  policy changes and the hotel sequestration

The recent changes in Texas Covid policy is the most likely reason to avoid the NIT. The health of the Coaches, staff and players is more important than a game.

I have family in Fort Worth and they're very worried.

If this news is true and sju's declines an invitation to the NIT it reeks of arrogance I have not seen in a very long time. It reminds me of Bobby Cremmins arrogant decision in 1995 of not having his Georgia Tech team go to the NIT.You deny devoloping your younger players and building for next year. Sorry the COVID excuse is a little lame after the school did a great job all year of taking the right precautions. Just my take on it.

I don't see it as arrogrant at all. COVID is not an excuse, especially now in Texas. You're right, the school did a great job all year of taking the right precuations. Why in God's name would they now want to put all of that at risk by going to a state where all restrictions have been lifted? I would love to have seen post season play by our guys, but not at the risk of their health. Disappointing, but if true, the right decision.
